2009-2011 iMAC models: Connect a power "Y" splitter between SSD and SATA power cable. SSD's SMART firmware handles temperature reporting to control fan speed. See video: ruclips.net/video/pMsk1o1W2B0/видео.html (individual is mistaken about fan speed staying constant. SMART's reporting affects speed).
So to summarise, uses TG Pro (for a fee), to manually set fans at a constant. Better than having fans at 100%, but annoying that they wouldn't drop automatically. Bloody Apple, what a bunch of rotters. Premium priced hardware, which requires labourious hacks for no much good reason. Arsehats.
i recently install ssd on my imac 27" 2013 model. i downloaded this mac fan control software and it is saying my cpu is around 58 C. What is the ideal temperature should a cpu be? can someone let me know?
as long as it stays under 96c you're good. The thresh hold for most intel chips is 105c or 220F and less for AMD depending on gen. Thresh hold meaning that's when the CPU sends an emergency to the PC ( YES A MAC IS A PC) to shut it down before damage happens, to either the CPU Die, socket or motherboard.
I have tg pro, but my cpu fan is running at 4198 and odd at 3800 rpm. which is very high. the hdd fan is operating normal at 1100 rpm.I I put it in manual mode but it is still running high. The diagnostics say temp. sensors might not be working. Any tips??
thanks for the comment. if i remember, there is an extra plug on 3.5 inch drives for sensors and so on the SSDs, that plug isn't there to be used for sensors. the SSDs just have SATA port and thats it. the MacBook pro though, its already 2.5 inch so not sure if the sensor is on the drive or something stuck to the top of it to measure temp. I recall on my old MacBook pro, 2008, the thermo sensor was taped onto the top of the drive.
@@MicahGallantI use this app, but I wonder if it causes a hidden heatening on my computer? I cannot hear any noise anymore, because fan has stopped. So, the reason of the problem on my mouse might be a overheatening?
if you are replacing your old HDD with SSD and you don't want your fan to be noisy, just take off your old HDD control board from the top of HDD (6 small screws), plug in the temperature sensor cable and stick the board on top of your new SSD with double sided tape.
Thank you so much for the help. my technician had to put iin a new hard drive due to my imac desktop 2011 not starting up, i then got my mac back yesterday with a new ssd in it and the fan was very loud, the tech guy said that's normal but it was bothering me, so I found your video, ownloaded the app and it's very helpful and stopped the noise, thank you so much!
I'd have thought that manually adjusting the fan, on say the CPU, so it would be lower than it should be when it's working full throttle, is probably not the wisest of ideas.
thanks for the comment. its actually 'Temperature Gauge' in the app store, then from there you can upgrade it to TG Pro from the company 'Tunabelly'. not sure why they don't just sell tg pro from there...
You're welcome. I just went through the SSD replacement myself and found your video while looking for solutions. I was amazed how much faster my early 2008 iMac starts and loads programs. Thanks for making your video.
You can start watching at 4 minutes if you just want the solution
thanks for the comment, sorry i wasted 4 minutes of your life :)
Literally? :O)

Done the trick for me thank you so much
Can you wire a senor in? put a SSD in a 2010 MBP & the fans are going nuts.
Or why not install macs fan control software and lower the fan speed ?
Just downloaded the sofware fixed it right up! Its an awesome upgrade! Its like night and day! made a little 21" 2011 imac into a beast!
macs fan control is another good program thanks for the upload
thanks for the comment. i still use this program today on my mac, works great. love the youtube icon with they fly ;)
dood this could have been a 2 minute video... you just ramble on and on

+Chris G thanks for the comment, good question.... It just worked for me. Try toggling all the options to see if something triggers it
Does this happen to macbook pros? I want a samsung evo inside my old mid 2009 macbook pro 13 inch and I dont want the fan to run like this.

I did it. Noise has gone. But, my magic mouse slowed down. There is a problem on my mouse. What is problem?
what's the connection between fan noise and a mouse not working??

thanks for the comment, i didn't see anything i could take off but you may be right.
Al, does it still need molex sata power attached, or just the thermal jumper pins
Woah this is a good idea 💡

Does this damage the mac because some apps say it can damage the mac

Seems like a fix for now. My HDD fan is a little quieter and its stopping when the comp goes to sleep. Thanks, will buy in 20 days if it holds.
I downloaded macs fan controll and adjusted the fans. And Walla
Thanks for your help mate
I just upgraded my Imac 5K Late 2015 with a SSD drive and I didn't use the thermo sensor and everything is running smooth, no fan noise at all.
ah good thing. they must have changed that knowing people would swap out the drive.
Really? I bought my new SSD from OWC and it came with that extra sensor, I was thinking of removing it.
thank use tg pro after madden 3ed sata drive to the 3ed saga port
I went to the App Store and TG Pro is not there
thanks for the comment. its actually 'Temperature Gauge' in the app store, then from there you can upgrade it to TG Pro from the company 'Tunabelly'. not sure why they don't just sell tg pro from there...
can't hear you over the fan noise
HA!
Thanks
Or use the FREE Macs Fan Control app.
great, didn't know there was a good free one. thanks for the suggestion.

EverythingNewUnderThe Son
super usefull! thanks!
Saved by SSDfanControl software on my iMac.
Yeah I love that it uses the hdd S.M.A.R.T. temp reporting to control the fan. Great solution.
TLDW: Just download TG Pro and set fans to manual mode.
The Brain dead designers at Apple should of put a fan and better heat sink on the Video card. The GPU gets the hottest next to the CPU.
Stop saying "literally".
"Macs Fan Control" проще и понятней как по мне.
yes, several different ways to do it.
you're crazy man
