- The Denver Broncos have fired head coach Nathanial Hackett after their 51-14 loss to the Los Angeles Rams on Christmas Day. Hackett was 4-11 in his first season and it’s the shortest tenure of any non-interim Denver Broncos head coach. Skip Bayless and Shannon Sharpe determine where the Broncos go from here.

@@COA5T I'm not sure if the person who mentioned FTX is trolling or not..but I could see a way that it would be relevant for Skip and Shannon to discuss.
When the story is large enough (Britney Griner, Favre, racism, Trump, Floyd, etc) they have had great conversations about things about non sports based issues. FTX and crypto were peddled and sponsored by many athletes who were paid millions of dollars to convince regular people to invest. Unsurprisingly, FTX turned out to be one of the biggest corporate scams in history and athletes will likely be called to testify.
But it's unlikely that FS1 will give much if any attention to that issues, because FS1 and all the major sports leagues are complicit in running million dollar ad campaigns to convince sports fans to bet on crypto and bet on games. I would be very interested if Shannon & Skip actually discussed it.

But 107 million that pretty much half of a team's salary cap and you still have to pay to get one. So your QB slot is costing you 130+ million. You are losing keeping Russ or losing if you cut him because you 100 in dead money. You are pretty much dead for 2 years if Russ isn't better next year.

Well, DENVER is sick of losing PERIOD.
Don’t get me wrong, I am grateful for those Manning years and was so glad to witness my team winning a championship as it happened.
But we’re not even in contention for a viable playoff team, we’re not even in a “middle of the road” position…. We suck so bad that Hover, Bissell and Dyson can’t hold candle to how bad we suck.
And it’s pathetic - I don’t even live in Denver and I can’t imagine how ticked the local fame base is.
And all for what - to see that we are stuck with Wilson for at least another season (possibly two - depending on the decision making) as we watch him run our team into the ground….
It’s amazing how reverses this whole scenario is.
Before the season started I know I was confident that we couldn’t top the Division against KC, but I was VERY optimistic that we’d at least be a wild card team. And yet, heading into the ‘23-‘24 season - I’m no longer guessing that we’ll miss playoffs again, but I’m confident that we’re going to end up at the bottom of the barrel sitting with all the pathetic sub-.500 teams hoping for a better season come fall of ‘24. It’s horrible.
It’d be one thing if we had a couple nobody QB’s that we were trying to bring on to see if they could take the helm and give us something - but we had such positive hopes heading into this season that it’s 💯 worse that going through the past 5+ years of rebuilding-restructuring the team, simply because we thought we had what we needed to be some sort of playoff contender.
But I very much agree with you - we’re at a loss. And I honestly have no hope or even tempt myself to muster up some optimism for next season based on Wilson’s performance.
At least other bottom-dwelling-teams fanbases get to have that feeling of, “we’ll make some changes in the off-season” “We’re still rebuilding”

Denver has no such leg to stand on to even contemplate that notion.
I’ll be a Bronco fan for life but as such I have the right to be realistic about this - and right now the reality is that we’re not going anywhere for at least another season.

Shannon is absolutely correct that a lot of Wilson's Seattle success was based on his athleticism. As a Hawks fan I saw major red flags with Wilson a decade ago. I said many times then, that someday when Wilson slows down he's going to be in a lot of trouble. That day has come. Kudos to Carroll for coaching around his weakness.
Denver has been in a rut since Peyton Manning walked away from Football. The problem has been the QB position. You can have the best defense but you can't win without a QB.
Also doesn't help that the fan base keeps running coaches out of town, and the Elway/Ellis tandem had personal problems with top candidates like Kyle Shanahan and McVay so we didn't hire them.
That also means good free agents won't come here, so we end up with Gregory who shows more fight after the game than during it.
I place the ultimate blame on John Elway. Cuz out of all the problems they've had since Peyton manning, John Elway is the common denominator
@@A_Notes George Payton is not exempt or safe either. The Walton's are going to hire a staffing agency or bring in their own guy; especially when they start off sluggish next season.
They were in a rut with Manning to just got lucky they had a generational defense “no fly zone” to fall back on. Manning was done his neck was about to crumble and still they didn’t plan for a QB lol. Paid osweiler too so they clearly have had boneheaded moves when it comes to paying guys way too soon.

Wilson always struck me as uncoachable. His early success appears to have made him believe that he has no need of coaching or teaching. If he does not change that attitude, he is done.

Literally everything you said was incorrect. The broncos are missing a 2nd round pick, which is the only pick they’re missing in any future years, along with having two thirds. They also have more cap than most teams in the NFL.

When the team starts fighting with one another it's time for the head coach to go, there's just no bones about it. The Broncos are a great franchise and very loyal fans because I went out there for a Titans broncos game, and the fans deserve better than this.

I’ve been a Broncos fan my whole life. I love this team and always will. I can’t fault the decision to bring Russ in. Unfortunately it’s been a bust (congrats seahawk fans better do something with those picks) and in my opinion we just need to get a coach that will help with a rebuild and creating a culture of toughness and grit. Implode everything now. Even with no picks or cap just eat and restart. Let some vets go for something and then build from the ground up

In Seattle it was all about the Pete, Marshawn & the Legion of Boom which is one of the greatest defenses in history that carried the load. Russ was never that guy. & he’s the one who threw the worst interception in SB history & since then is was all down hill for Seattle. he then got married to a celebrity & his imagine since has become manufactured. It’s all fake. It’s all for the cameras. In this past off-season literally everything was documented. He walked in the Bronco stadium with his wife like he owned the place. He claimed multiple SB’s. & now without Pete it’s clear he can’t read a defense & instead of going with the play call, he takes into his own hands & improvs & continues to make poor choices with the football. Firing the coach was inevitable but that doesn’t mean Russ ain’t trash

@@sindilacion But if you actually watched he wasn't really great either. There were many games where Seattle had 135 total yards of offense. 4th Russ makes 1 huge play, and they win 17-14. Russ is the hero. "Look Russ came back to win the game!" But there was no reason for it had he not sucked for 3 1/2 quarters of football. The numbers looked better than his actual QB play overall. The only difference now is there are no big plays to make him a hero. In Seattle those big plays got less and less over time.

Uncle speaks facts and truth. Under Joseph and Fangio we never looked that bad. And they had far worse starting QBs. That's why you never give elite roster to rookie head coach.

Denver is so far away with pulling together an offense that I could easily see some of ther defensive players asking to be traded. The career span in the NFL is too short for some of them to want to ride it out.
