  • From Glacier Bay To The Katmai Coast And The Arctic National Wildlife Refuge, Art Wolfe travels across Alaska in search of the most beautiful scenes the animal kingdom has to show. In the freezing cold waters, we see endangered humpback whales and pods of orcas in their natural habitats. On the Katmai Coast we meet the largest population of Grizzly Bears in the entire world. These incredible animals are living on the largest stretch of uninhabited coast in North America, and Art speaks to bear biologists so that we can learn more about them.

After this lovely hour, I'm wishing I could ride along in your pocket for a few years! I moved here to Alaska 45 years ago for her beauty and remaining wild. I pray she remains so for my great-grandchildren and theirs, and every other wild thing here.

I'm glad that you got such nice photos of the Grizzly Bears. However; Grizzlies are predators, and they are very unpredictable. They've been known to kill a person in a hot flash. Many years ago, I lived in Alaska, and I remember hearing about Grizzly and Black bear attacks. They were frightening!!! You really should be much more careful.

Do you have photos of the Glacier's depth and position two hundred years ago,1821, as you stated how much deeper and advanced it was then. I know most Glaciers in North America have Receded a lot the past two hundred years except for some in South East Alaska which are holding their own or growing some. Many Glaciers started receding before the Industrial Age but Man is probably helping them along. Enjoyed seeing the many and diverse animals brought up close with your camera, the scenic vistas are a sight to behold.

This was incredible- I had no idea of the huge amount of wilderness in north america- absolutely stunning. Be nice to know where and what to do to help stop these big companies from destroying these lands and animals.

Ready for some “real Alaskan facts “? Our state is 1/5th the size of the USA, only approx 750,000 residents, 360 million acres of land and only about 1% of which is developed! Chew on that!😳🤣😳

What a shame to think that there are people who would gladly go to the coastal plain (and many other parts of the Arctic)and drill for oil. It would completely destroy this beautiful place and think of the animals it would kill. Please don't let that happen.

30:09 do not confuse " respect " with indifference.
Respect is a human emotional trait.
Bears do not share your human emotions.
They are not Teddy Bears !
They are driven by food and mating.
If you stand in their way of that... then you got to go.
Sick or injured Bears are just that. (just ask that Kodiak Bear guy and his girlfriend)
He thought that Bears were his friends... but the reality is they were just indifferent at that time.
Well, at least until when they weren't !

If viewers didn't have this running commentary and close-ups of the presenter explaining the obvious, do you think they would have missed anything? It would have been a much nicer documentary to watch without the explanations and the closeups. After all we should let pictures speak a thousand words, shouldn't we? And we are all well-informed viewers where wildlife is concerned. Could this video not be redone without the presence of a presenter occupying screen time nearly as much as the wilflife does? At best what is required is sub-titles offered very sparingly without audio when absolutely necessary, and yes a little music here and there. Thank you.

200 years ago it was under ice? Then it warmed up and more life became it seems. Then, the narrator brings up the political Global Warming crap. Best way to ruin a good documentary, I think.
