    Amazing lock. I am just worried since I would be using it in an apartment. If for some reason the lock fails to open, and the key is inserted from the inside, the outside inserted key doesn’t even turn. Then you are locked out :(
    Any way around that?

    Do you need the hub to be able to use it with Alexa and Google?

    • @philipcorner574
      @philipcorner574 Год назад

      Yes. With SwitchBot, anything that runs on batteries only uses Bluetooth and can't connect to the internet on its own.
      (Devices that run on mains or USB have WiFi built-in and don't require the hub. Possibly there are exceptions to this)
      The hub also allows you to control IR devices (it can duplicate any normal remote), so you can control your TV, aircon etc. remotely.

      @@philipcorner574 One exception is if you have Home Assistant installed it can access the lock directly through it's bluetooth connection and with it's automation capability you can do a more things with the lock then even adding switchbots hub allows you to do.

    thanks for the video, I have a question though, is it possible when unlocking the door, to keep open in a way I just have to push it from outside the door ? I'm asking that cause from out side my door I cannot open with the doot handle, I need a key, I can use the door hanlde only from inside, so basically I need a key everytime I need to open the door from outside.
    So it its possible to keep the door open when using the switchbot app to unlock then its good for me

    How hard and how much time would it taken the swtichbot team to put in a wifi module for 7bucks from example adafruit. Its a a fucking joke that u need to a mini hub that works on IR.

    • @HATipsByLarry
      @HATipsByLarry Год назад

      only problem with that is wifi takes a lot of power so the battries would die a LOT quicker then they normally would. That's why it uses bluetooth instead of wifi

      @@HATipsByLarry what batteries? the hub is powered. And most of the things it shooting to are connected to. Its the lame ass doorlock thats not. A door lock that dosent work sometimes, kinda important that it works all the time.

    • @HATipsByLarry

      @@Glorious_Yell0w The 2 123A batteries in the lock. If you added a wifi module to the lock it would use a lot more power, and the door lock works perfectly with it's bluetooth radio. My home assistant for example picks up the bluetooth signal and integrates perfectly without and need for their hub.

    No, I do not like that lock. Why? Because the lock and keypad both use nonstandard batteries. Exactly what type of batteries are those? No mention of that minor detail. Better hope Amazon does not run out of those batteries. I never seen those batteries at a brick & mortar store. If those were AA or AAA batteries, I would have already ordered the lock. Those batteries are a deal breaker for me.

    • @SteveDOES
      @SteveDOES  Год назад +7

      These are CR123 batteries. Yea, not the standard AA or AAA but i have a few devices throughout the house with them. They are common enough for me now that i have a pack laying around like i would AAs.

      You may need to go to different kind of stores, the may not be your standard aa or aaa but the are pretty common my August smart lock uses them. Nothing special on them

    I'm shocked by this review. This lock is hideous! The materials look cheap and aesthetically it's awful. You do great videos but I'm starting to question whether or not paid sponsorships are influencing your reviews now. Shame-shame-shame.

    • @SteveDOES
      @SteveDOES  Год назад +8

      Thanks Tony, but It's all about perspective, right? :)
      If you have the budget for a beautiful $300 Smart Lock then by all means it's going to look great.
      This lock is really going to appeal to someone, on a budget, who's renting and can't physically change the locks. But yes, it's not for everyone.
      I do try really hard not to let my reviews be influenced in anyway. Sorry, you got that impression.

    • @FarangNick
      @FarangNick Год назад +4

      I have the budget and don't care much about the cost of a smart lock. But this lock has a specific niche. Because you can just take it off with no harm done to your door, aesthetics isn't important for me. When this lock fails, you can instantly fall back to your previous lock-routine.
      But when a "normal" smart lock fails, I wonder about the inconvenience it brings, the harm done to your door cutting and making additional holes when installing, and then installing a new one who knows how much later...
      This is a clever "let's try it, and if you don't like it or fails there is no harm done" solution.
      There is definitely a niche for this lock.
      I'm hesitating to install a smart lock because I'm not sure how long the life span would be.
      With this lock it doesn't matter that much.
      Also useful as a temporary solution until I find the smart lock which I really, really like.
