I have poured well over 100 hours into this game and I love every inch of it. However, a lot of people have a hard time getting into it due to its difficulty, leading to big debates for an easy mode. To see what fixes these players wanted to see implemented, I downloaded the easy mode mod for Elden Ring to see for myself whether these changes add or lessen the experience.

I feel like this mod is a bit over the top, but it illustrates the issue with easy modes in souls games. The game is build around you having to focus on mechanics, so unless you actually make the mechanics themselves easier, the only way to make the game easy is to tune the stats until you don't need to worry about mechanics anymore, which doesn't work at all.

@@Raylightsen The games are all challenging because of mechanics, not stats. Even going through +/- 50 levels compared to regular isn't too hard. Sure, stats matter, but the difficulty is from the mechanics. Unless you change the mechanics you couldn't actually make the "functional easy mode" that people seem to want.

I beat dark souls 1 using the infinite souls glitch which i used to increase stats because i cannot tolerate to grind for exp, time saving and had more fun since my character was stronger to not die fast. Stats are the main reason why is hard. Mechanics are part but not the main reason.
I see Elden Ring easy mode as help for gamers that dont have much time for games in life anymore. With family, social life and my work I got maybe 1h to play sometimes in a day sometimes 1h in 3 days..and playing just one game for 3+ months just to see everything it offers is hard. More so I tried it when it got out without mods and hated it..if I have this little time to play after 12 hours of night shift work I want to have fun with game and not get frustrated for 1h or lose whole week on one boss fight.
then buy a game that's for you and don't expect the world to cater to your unskilled ass
This pretty much...I've played and beat all the Soulsborne games except Sekiro. Unfortunately I just don't have the time I used to and bounced off Elden Ring after 20 or so hours. Full time job, kid, etc. I might try again with this mod though

Indeed i like to play games just for fun not to grind to level up or something i like to enjoy the graphics and story than actual fighting
This is why I want to play an easy mode. I’ve played for 116 hours in the regular game, and I’m nowhere near endgame 🤣. I would love to finish the game, and the dlc for the lore and story, but I just don’t have the time to put into the game at the skill level I’ve got lol.
This mod makes me want a gaming pc I'd finally be able to see some of this game without having to grind 1000s of hours
If you need this mod you proably don't like the game anyway. I suck and beat it in like 80 hours.
Allow me to save you money. Just watch a letsplay or lore videos. Cause this is not gonna make the game fun

There's ez mods in classic doom that are very easy even on nightmare and some brutally difficult but both can be fun and cater to different mod audiences same as the elden ring easy mode
I need easy mode for Elden Ring because I have a maiden in real life and I don’t have 1000 hours to spend having zero god damn fun loosing to the same boss fight over and over. (2 hours a week.) I want to explore the magical world Fromsoftware created and not be in rage while doing it.
I'll be honest, I don't see how you can have fun with that. Like there are plenty of games with incredible and beautiful worlds, but have lame or subpar gameplay.
I guess if you're the kind of guy who derives fun and fulfillment from appreciating environments, more power to you. But personally, if a game isn't fun to play, then I wouldn't bother playing it. That's how it feels like looking at this Easy Mode mod, it doesn't look fun.

Most fans don,t care if people use cheat (in solo) to make the game easier. We care when people want to force the studio to make a bastardized version of the game they don't want and wouldn't be *soulesque*.

I played on PS5 so no mods here but I never finished the game. The game difficulty for me was fine until the Fire Giant. After that, the game simply became too frustrating to play. I don't know why, after the Fire Giant, they buff every trash mob to hit you for 3/4 of your HP all the time. I had no problems with difficulty before that. Now you run around in a zone and you get 2 hit kill ALL the time by trash. Not fun, not challenging, just frustrating. I'm highly tempted to buy the game of steam and try this mod.
I could have written this comment... I stopped playing after Commander Niall, so right around Fire Giant. The difficulty spike just wasn't my cup of tea. I love this game so much up to that point, so I'm highly considering a gaming laptop so I can re-buy the game and download this mod, so I can finally beat it.

i tried elden ring when it came out, i desinstalled the game, frustrated. Now im playing with this mod, i dont know why you have too much health and the enemies barely damage you. In my case they just hit you 50% compared to the original game. I feel great playing and im exploring everyting.
I expected the mod to make the game fairer, not remove any and all stakes. I guess this works for very casual players.

Boards exams are ranked. Neurosurgery residents work 90+ hours per week. I know my friend who works 90 hours per week he is top banker with 3 kids. I always ignored this mode thinking it won't be actually easy it will probably still very hard, but after watching your video I am convinced this mod is perfect for me and my friend.

Easy mode in souls games is an excellent idea. It allows more people to play the game without being knocked out by punishing difficulty.

Well that's like cutting open the chest and extrate the heart of the game. Souls game are what they are because of said challenge. Sometime a bit too punishing (often being fixed), but overall a good challenge with learning curves. With that in mind the devs give all the needed tools to learn and overcome said challenge.
Souls do not have to denature themselves to *allows more people to play*, people who plays need to learn, get better and ultimately triumph. They have all the needed tools to do so. And nothing will ever surpass THAT feeling of overcoming challenges in game of beating a boss after hours or days of hard work. Not because of easy mode. But raw talent and perseverance.
@@labergegaminglegarsduqc2156 as an offline mod it's not a bad thought and not every one can keep up with that pace for various reasons of some people have like 30 minutes to an hour every week to play so trying the game in 15 minute periods during the day with 90 percent of it being deaths can be very frustrating

From Software's games are wonderful but they are made in a way that frustrates the player who is not willing to repeat the same section over and over again. I guess they should change something in the game design in order to let them be accessible to every player.

Elden Ring spends too much time being unfair than being fun, on my NG25 I can see this is the least enjoyable souls game I ever played.
I suck so bad at the Souls type games. I have kids, I’m getting old. I played Elden Ring on PS5 and I really enjoyed the beginning of it. But lost interest the harder it got. Think I’ll get PC version and the mod. I think I would love it if so.
I'm sorry to hear that the game didn't hook you as much as it did me. Having alot to balance in your life can't make it any easier as well. However i still feel as though fighting through the difficulty and rising up to the challenge using all the tools available to you makes the game feel far more rewarding and fun to play. There is no doubting that the game is very hard and doesn't pull its punches yet the tools to win are still all there which is what makes these games so fascinating to me. I wish you the best.

I want a dynamic difficulty mod kind of like they had for the original Resident Evil 4. Well you're doing really good and then the game gets harder or if you're doing really bad at the game gets easier something like that that would be a cool mod.
Most people want a hard mode than easy mode I think. I wish the shadow tree blessings would reset on new game plus
I mean for very casual gamers that still like the lore and the world, I get why you would want that mod. But I also get why people who like the grind and difficulty and constant dying would despise the mod. After all they invested a lot of time and skill in the game.

easy mode doesn't make you god like it just helps you get past the early on area's faster. but the deeper you get its still pretty hard.

I think only the endgame needs tweaking. The game has an extremely fun and rewarding early to mid game difficulty to it. Endgame bosses esp the Elden Beast is just insanity. I get that you're fighting an actual god but at least design the mechanics to be more fun.
Yeah i think the endgame areas have some really wacky scaling and its quite rough if you haven't committed to vigor, but overall I never found it too overwhelming.

When I got the mod I took out my save files and duplicated them so I had back i when I turned off the mod. Did you save back ups of your saves?

There is the basic easy mode, it doesn't break the game like the one you used and makes the game more like old dark souls, because the bosses in ER are are artificially OP for no reason.
reduce 50% Damage.
Increase 25% Attack.
2X Player Hit Radious
2x Crimson/Cerulean Tears Heal

Souls games are solid but the learning curve is pretty steep, ppl who aren't used to the Souls formula need smtg to get used to it. Elden Rings way easier than DS1 or Demon Souls but its still pretty unforgiving for newbies.

how i would "fix" the easy mod
change starting stats to be based on what you take instead of giving you 25 in every thing the only states that is the same for every class would be vigor at 25
fp are consumed but halved and can be halved even more with the talisment
damage taken are not reduced however you gain 30 base resitance in everything
the map show the cave and all thing realted to that when you are near it
and the rune bonus is now 25% and not 100%
i think it would make the game easier yes but now a cake walk you would need to die at least 5 time to a boss for me to call this an easy mod in elden ring

idk what version of the mod u have but the version I have is actually still quite difficult 😭 I still get 1-2 shotted and im like level 144
My problem with the game is that before I even knew what I was doing, I was out of arrows and wasting potions before you've even learned what they do. I learn by doing, but because of that, I was out of arrows by the end of the Cave of Knowledge tutorial with no way to get them back. I'm happy to get better at the mechanics as I go, but between throwing too many mechanics at me too quickly, running out of resources, and an inability to troubleshoot what I'm doing wrong... it's a little demotivating. And since I played it too long to return on steam, yes, I will be looking into a few mod options that at least allow me to get past a few wolves in a cave. Besides, I prefer story-centered games anyway.

@@DCXII I can’t say I expected the pep talk but honestly I don’t appreciate it truly and funny enough I was actually going to attempt the game again after giving up 6 months ago when I stopped at rahdahn previously to that the bosses I remember killing were margit, godrick and rennalla (also some random boss I found in the open world called the magma wyrm makar which took forever to kill) but now looking back my main problem was I didn’t really have a built I was just trying to level up to use the moonlight greatsword effectively and I don’t really know where to go from afterwards bc idk what build that weapon is intended for but today when I reattempt the game I’ll see it through this time (I make no promises on the DLC tho 😂)
So I played ER for a few hours but got fed up with wasting my time dying so many times, cause it is what it is. It's wasting your time with unreasonable learning curves.
This easy mode saves you an immense amount of frustration and time BUT takes out the feeling of accomplishment earned over sweating a swimmingpool of blood.

You got this mod perfectly pinned. Tho i disagree with it be an unteasonable learning curve. Elden ring is alrwady the easiest souls like game fromsoft made. If it is so hard maybe you should interact with the numerous things that makes it easier. Summons, magic, leveling up, upgrading weapons or just looking around for better stuff to use.

whats hard? yes what is hard indeed i myself is unfortunatly have arthritis in my hands n i havent finished after hours of trying the 1st part(1st hour) of gameplay due to being to hard,Even finished witcher 3 on harder then normal 1st try n died a few times but not 40times without getting any closer to get onward in game and not met the knight on 1st place yet due to this
oh yes try playing this at 30+ fps and parry with a game that parry is just soo wierd compared to what im used to+Never played a souls game before either from start to end.

Imagine needing easy mode mod for the game that devs mainly invented and veveloped put their heart on, for game to be challenging and having strict and fluent learning curve to surpass yourself and become better at the gaming and those casuals choose to ruin that exprience and ruining the game. Those casuals really outnumber core gamers by such a gross margin that supposedly core games are being affected from a development and design standpoint in order to accommodate casual gamers and their potentially weak gaming skills. It's so sad.

People dont have time to WASTE on retrying the same boss for 100 times and learning his moves, ALSO its BORING.
There is nothing that I hate more than REPETITION its the reason i hate Open world games, its the reason why Eldern Ring is the worst Souls game ever, OW ruined it.
All the previous games were great, no copy pasted crap and artificially inflated bosses, no fighting the same area boss for 13 times [someone made a list of how many times you fight the same type of miniboss and boss, and the average score is 6!
I never needed any easy modes and finished all the previous games, on their original systems on release, starting with Demon Souls on PS3, Dark Souls 1 on X360, Dark Souls 2 on PS3, Dark Souls 3 on PC.
Yeah, some had problematic bosses, but none had copy pasted dungeons and repetition like ER does because of the IDIOTIC open world structure.
I heard that DS2 remake had idiotic sponge/OP bosses, but i never played that game, i finished the vanilla when it came.
Also whats his name the DLC knight boss in DS1, i had to try maybe 20-30 times.
And I never managed to kill that bonus Dragon rider boss in DS3 on that "secret" level.
But ER is something else, complete crap.
There is a normal "easy mode" that just makes the game more fair:
Reduce 50% Damage.
Increase 25% Attack.
2X Player Hit Radious
2x Crimson/Cerulean Tears Heal
Nobody cares about the devs idea. We play to have fun, not to follow some guys ideas.
If this makes farming for runes a bit more easier, take less damage, return poise to be DS1, and makes endgame more fair, I would download

this mod makes me cringe, it is so disrespectful to the games design.. tree sentinel is easy with torrent.. it's still part of the tutorial: "get stronger by getting necessary items and come back" ..
What an awful mod, lol. Not a proper difficulty, it's more like cheat mode, doesn't feel like a proper, natural difficulty.
I don't want easy modes on FromSoft games, but a better ez mode would be:
- 10% damage reduction up until Morgott, 20% damage reduction after Morgott.
-Increased Estus healing speed.
-Parries allow for ripostes on bosses after one single parry instead of the usual 3.
-Not unlimited FP, but lowered FP consumption instead (20%)
-Runes are still lost upon death but option to retrieve them for a percentage of runes at a site of grace (20%)
-Doubled drop rates of any item.
Boss / enemy specific:
Malenia doesn't heal at all.
Invaders and perfumers can't heal.
Maliketh HP draining effect removed.
Checkpoint after Radagon, he won't respawn upon death.
Elden Stars tracking nerfed (slowed)
Runebears and Abductor V HP halved.
Ancient Follower Archers and Albinuric Archers rate of fire, damage and tracking reduced/nerfed.
That's it.
Worst part of the mod is how it showers the player with levels after levels, essentially killing the leveling up process and build crafting.
I wouldn't increase rune gain at all, that's awful.
I really like a lot of these changes, it kinda sucks the the only real ez mode mod right now is just one giant cheat mode instead of minor changes to make the game more forgiving, still I think the game is mostly fine the way it is normally

The worst thing about leveling systems is the need to level up. This is the main reason I use cheats and save files; to get through with it, know the map, and do the game backwards. By backwards, I mean going from 100% completion to 0% and back. That is why is also say that the RPG genre is the worst thing to ever exist because your progression does not reset like a MOBA or a fighting game where you return to a neutral state.
This sounds more fair as an easier mode while still keeping some of the challenge but tbh I still don't understand why people ignore the mimic tear ashes when it comes to asking for an easy mode
This is why I think the discussion around easy mode is meaningless. Mods like these DO exist to cater the game's mechanics to ANYONE, esp a game as big as Elden Ring. Granted, these mods probably only exist for PC, but I am sure 99% of console-gamers own computers anyway. Anyway, thank you for the mod showcase. It was very entertaining to watch.
Sure they're okay with these mods now but honestly, at some point in the future I expect the devs to start implementing stuff that increase the difficulty if you use a mod to make the game easier. Or maybe just outright stop making their games open source. At any point they can do this

W friend but I believe in you! I would highly recommend if you want the game to be easier to look up some build guides and some other tips to help you! The games diffculty mostly comes from asking the player to think about its mechanics differently and there are tons of tools out in the open world to find that answer. I hope you can enjoy the game as much as I did someday! STAY STRONG!
