  • There weren't originally words to the Andy Griffith Show theme song.
Join Robbie on a nostalgic journey to the real-life Mayberry in Mount Airy, NC, the birthplace and hometown of the beloved Andy Griffith. In June of 2023, we had the incredible opportunity to visit this charming town that inspired the iconic Andy Griffith Show. (Full Mount Airy video coming soon).
Did you know that the famous theme song of the show, "The Fishin' Hole," originally had no lyrics? It was just a catchy whistling tune. However, in 1961, writer and actor Everette Sloane, who later made a guest appearance on the show in 1962, felt that the theme song needed some words. He penned lyrics that resonated with the essence of the show, and Andy Griffith himself loved them. He even recorded a version of the song with the newly added lyrics, which was included on the 1961 album "Songs, Themes, and Laughs from the Andy Griffith Show."
During our visit to the Andy Griffith Museum, we had the pleasure of hearing this iconic song with the lyrics.
Robbie loved the song so much he couldn't resist recording it.
Please note that the song is copyrighted, but we wanted to capture the magic and share our experience with all of you.
