I looked at your dehydrated apples last week and thought about getting apples for making apple crisp. Here you are making it. You sure are living a good life!!! I can't believe I never thought of using 7 up. I wouldn't have thought there was enough citric acid to be useful. I've got some McIntosh apples and I have 7 up. I've got to try that.
I am very much looking forward to trying this recipe thank you for sharing it, I normally pack oatmeal and cranberries with me for breakfast while camping. I was a little sad this year the wild apple tree I normally pick from had no fruit on it so I have to buy apples to dry.
Been a long time since I could find apples for free worth doing this with. Not since I was a kid and raided the neighbours tree😅. Thank you for commenting
Mark ... The only thing different that I would have done is 1) substitute raisins for the cranberries (I LOVE raisins). 2) add a little nutmeg to complement the cinnamon. Outstanding job!!! I’m salivating!!! Better video!!! Me and mine wish you and yours all things great and good!!! Take care, be safe, all my best and God bless!!! Chuck Knight from Buffalo, Texas, USA. 🤠🐩🖖✝️👍
Looked scrumptious. I think butter would help with getting some crunch on the oats. This is a cool idea as you could buy (if you don't have a dehydrator) dried apple and other fruit and rehydrate only when you need then and not have crushed fruit in your pack. Granola might work as it's already a little bit crunchy or even a crunchy oat bar broken up if there wasn't anything else.
Camp Chef makes a 3/4 qt Dutch Oven, just perfect for one person cooking/baking. I have used it with my alcohol stoves, works well, but you do need a couple briquettes for heat on the top.
Interesting. I do have a small cast iron oven but have not carried it very far. I will look the Camp Chef up. I thing Petromax has small ones as well. Thanks for commenting
Hi Mark-I thought you had burned your mouth with that first bite, based on your reaction! 😲 Glad you enjoyed it 😛 I just watched your video where you and your wife used the Coleman stove for this same dessert. Since I have one, I may try this on the stove, too. Thank you for your videos 👍
Mark the hodge podge was great and the Shatshuka was good also. I have no doubt that this recipe will be very good also. I will be cooking this with some peaches i have that are dehydrated. I live in South Carolina so plenty of peaches around. Awesome video as always. Hope all is well in Canada.
This recipe will also work well for sheltering in place in the event of natural or man made loss of power. I try to have ingredients that don't require refrigeration or freezing. Dehydration is a great option.
HI Mark... Nice presentation! Looked like a great result of an easy to do method!! I believe you would have gotten your "crispyer" toppin if you were able to bake it in coals of fire pit! I splurge and drizzle "real" maple syrup on mine!! TY and stay well please!! Old John
Looked wonderful Mark. Apple crisp or crumble is one of my fav desserts! Will have to give it a try in the woods or perhaps on top of the wood stove at the cabin. That would sure taste good after an afternoon of snowshoeing! Thanks for sharing. :)
Like how excited and pleased you were with your creation on this one! Serendipitously, before watching this I had cut in some instant apple cinnamon porridge (and yogurt) with this morning's pancake mix... I'm calling them apple bannock pancakes ;->
Mark, no fair waving that in my face when I can't take a bite. I have all the fixin's so I might try it this afternoon. I'll have to use the oven - we have a -9C wind chill today. Thanks for an excellent recipe. And single serving, too.
Too soon for those temps. We are a bit lucky on the east coast. The ocean moderates the temperature but when it does get cold its a penetrating damp cold. Good luck with the apple crisp
@@MarkYoungBushcraft I gave it a try. No cranberries, and I used almond oil (got it to finish my last Kooksa because they said it didn't leave a taste). I baked it at 400F for 15 minutes. the oats came out very much like granola. It made an excellent afternoon snack. Thanks again.
That looks good Mark, and I really enjoy your channel. What about adding a bannock mix to the oatmeal and baking a moist cobbler? Stay healthy and keep'em coming.
@@MarkYoungBushcraft I really did like the video. I thought the oatmeal idea was very creative. I’m going to share with my grandsons. They love camping a d Dutch oven cooking. Thank you
Try that with Ghee, the Desi ghee is clarified butter, and has a fantastic taste, a high smoke point, and needs no refrigeration for up to two months. For what it’s worth, I do my Yorkshire pudding in a tin with desi ghee instead of dripping.
Thanks for sharing this.🙏🏻 I’ve made apple sauce, which is easy to make. I use bio fuel canisters which are similar to sterno, they have a two ring set up where you can take the middle ring out and use it for simmering. I wonder if something like that for the bottom heat would work for a slower burn, and using the coals on top.
Don't remember for sure, it's been a while but I probably used my favorite GMO (Canola oil) & brown sugar on the oats & a plastic container full of kids lunch pack apples in my version, cooked in a G.I. cup with a stainless steel lid & firewood coals top & bottom. I lined the cup with foil with more foil in the bottom to provide an air space, a must IMHO to prevent burning in 'camp gear' cookware. Tasty, but seemed slightly wanting without vanilla ice cream.
Sounds great. I like using y canteen cup for this as well. Now if I could just figure out how to make fresh ice cream in the woods and yes, there is a way of doing it...hmm🤔. Thanks for commenting
You have such a clear and soothing voice perfect for narrating. I could listen to you all day. I’m a fan hailing from San Francisco. 👋

Avocado oil? I use it for frying eggs also scrambled. No oil taste at all. Like it better than olive oil.

Oh yes... I use ghee a lot. Using it even more on my keto diet. I talk about it in most every cooking video. Thanks Ron
Nice one Mark. Maybe you could use some ghee instead of oil & maybe 2 packs of oatmeal. Another desert to add to an outdoor adventure. Thanks
Good suggestion. I do like using ghee but do not usually carry it unless I have a special reason. Thanks for commenting

Nice video. What was your total cook time?
I didn't time it all but I would estimate about 30 minutes not including prep time. Hope this helps
I think I would add a bit of Vanilla extract and some cinnamon, or if making for two use one of the brown sugar and cinnamon oatmeal.
For sure. Vanilla and a few spices would send it over the top. Thanks for commenting
