Kenya Data Protection Regulations 2021, Discussion with CS Joe Mucheru, & Data Commissioner Kassait

The Office of the Data Protection Commissioner in partnership with the Lawyers Hub discussed the draft Data Protection regulations on Monday 19th April at 2pm, Nairobi.
The Public Policy discussion on the 3 sets of regulations which seek to safeguard the processing of personal data, provide for the rights of data subjects and the obligations of data controllers and processors. The drafts regulations are available here: www.odpc.go.ke/resources

I liked the way Rose glossed over the question of compliance of the Huduma Number process with the Data Protection Act. "The matter is in court (a very broad sweep since sub judice rule is not a complete bar to discussion) and we have sworn to keep mum on the issue (the honesty here was appreciated but depressing to the public at the same time). Such a huge public policy issue and we sweep it under the rag so easily? The chickens will come home to roost people....
