its 2 in the morning and my head hurts from crying over this song. i really dont know what's compelling me to do this, but i feel the need to vent here to justify why i'm bawling my eyes out over this in particular. its most definitely because of my best friend julie, who i hope to fuck isn't reading this embarrassing mess right now, who put this as the very first song in the playlist we both share together, and still do. she doesn't live with me anymore, and i think listening to this really made that realization hit me again. i met her when we were both 12 years old, before either of us even knew about that fact, playing team fortress 2. my step-father came into my life a year after, and i had an entire highschool of abuse to look forward to; she was constantly my best friend throughout that entire thing. both of us were faking our identities online trying to rationalize how we felt about who we were, and she came out to me when we were both about 16. my deepest regret is not doing the same to her that day. i only came out to her when i was about to graduate, and she still promised me to get a place together. i ran away from home, using my work money to hold out and pay for a plane ticket down there by october 2nd of last year, the best day of my life. i missed the second flight on the 1st, staying up all night to catch the first one next morning. when she picked me up, i swear i cried for twenty minutes as she started the nearly six hour drive down to our new home, first taking me to dauphin island right off the coast of alabama. she loved the sea, and she used to work at a sea lab there, which is why im sure she loved this entire album. that day was the first time i ever saw the ocean. i didn't sleep at all for well over a day, but i never felt better. not even a year passed before we had to separate because of covid shit completely fucking up all of our plans; we still talk, but listening to this again makes me feel like i won't get another chance like that ever again; that i fucked up somewhere and here i am. i hope that isn't true. i love you, sis. apologies to anybody that's made it this far in this post; i hope y'all are doing better.

That's a very cool theory. No matter which phase we look, Gorillaz always had this feeling of being a family rather than just a band.
