@@alices.b867 First of all I love the great Sarah. She is my fav singer close behind Lady and therefore I'm here. 2. It's not MY Billie. 3. As a music lover I'm naturally familiar with Jazz. 4. It's not that everybody should like the greatest female vocalist. 5. They have different styles, Sarah is more opera.
@@elliesings9508 First version I heard was Dinah Washington's which is also very good. Check it out. Was a song recorded by multiple artists mid-century. I believe Jo Stafford also recorded it.
Why........... ?? We have synthesizers and all that great crap..! Good question. Talent like her, Sarah Vaughn, the Mills Brothers just doesn't make it today, although I ask the same question as you. The musicians, the lyrics, the way the artists carry themselves. It's just not there anymore. Sad IMO.
There still are great artists today. If you like Sarah Vaughan you have to check out Samara Joy, a great young jazz singer. And you have to check out Emmet Cohens RUclips Account. There you can see a lot of fantastic young jazz musicians
Someone here remarked Sarah was taken from us far too soon and that's so true. Lung cancer in 1990. She was a chain smoker. Amazingly, it never affected her vocals.
All the comments about Sarah’s singing and very recognizable voice are so true. Like one comment said you could recognize her just by her speaking voice. God rest your soul Sweet Sarah. We all loved listening to you. Big admirer JP
Sarah Vaughan is a Master Vocalist. She is a phenomenal artist that grabs your soul like a velvety pillow gently tucked under your neck. IMPRESSIVE vocals and effortless interpretation.
That moment (1:24) when Richard Davis realizes he is not playing the right changes (he returns to the top of the tune while Sarah repeats the B section).... Eyebrows shoot up, eyes dart to Sarah, a couple of measures of intense focus, then the look to the pianist, a suppressed smirk and back to smiling. Priceless!
March 27th: Happy birthday Jazz Singer Sarah Vaughan-The Divine One (1924-1990)-4 x Grammy Award winner, including Grammy Lifetime Achievement Award, NEA Jazz Master Award. MY GREAT GRAND AUNT'S COUSIN SANG WITH LADY DIVINE SASSIE IN THE 1940s & 1950s. I WAS NOT EVEN BORN THEN ...LOL BUT WHEN I ARRIVED, MY GRAMPS AND HIS SISTER BOTH OWNED EVERY RECORDING OF SASSIE. Sarah was the best friend a song could have.
John Sientz This is actually such an accurate desciption of her as a singer
very well said John. I'm going to use it.
But first of all Billie Holiday, please!
Very close to her naturally Sarah Vaughan.
@@alices.b867 Her Name is SARAH VAUGHAN.

Listening in September 2024
Sarah had one of the most instantly recognisable singing voices
Has.
Many years ago, I had the pleasure of seeing her perform with Billy Eckstein in NYC. Mesmerizing!
Richard Davis is still alive, aged 92. As are Roy Haynes, 97, Ahmad Jamal, 92 and Sonny Rollins 92. Quite a band!!!
That number seems to have halved in 9 months :(
Someone here remarked Sarah was taken from us far too soon and that's so true.
Lung cancer in 1990.

The Divine Ms. Vaughan looks heavenly doing this number...As she vocally blesses us with each and every note of the song.
Pure musical joy.
When it's Sarah, you just sit back and let her take you where she wants to go. The ride will always be wonderful.
Sarah Vaughan had her own special style of jazz, and it was beautiful.

Sarah V and the whole music ensumble were fantastic.
Her vocal control is like no other. She can pull off extremely difficult leaps and dips and make it look easy. We love you Ms. Vaughan!

There will never ever be another you. My favorite singer of all time. Sarah could get more out of a song than the writer intended. She makes my day.
Still a lovely voice she has. I always love these old songs and good old jazz.
❤Sarah does the best 👌
With a great trio behind her and she is Live.
A Beautiful Voice 🌹

The day Sarah died, was the only time I saw my father cry.
Great song!Honored by the Beatles!
Glorious, simply glorious, yet for me, Dinah Washington has the definitive version.
I thought that for years. Then I heard this... Oh!
