It's amazing you guys got to film all this in the mist of risking your lives severely close to flying glass and metal sheets slicing at full speed. Totally scary.
Incredible, may be the best footage I've ever seen from within peak winds of a hurricane. I hope you were all able to avoid the projectiles, vehicles must take a battering though.
Everytime I see a live video of these, it makes me wonder what makes people who are not storm chasers, think they can ride this out in their house..... Excellent video.
You have no idea how hard they work for their family home and for whats in the freezer, and damned if theyre gonna let a looter come take anything the storm didnt already take. Already, looters and scammers have moved in. Much of my family sent the women and children away to safety while the men rode it out at home. They all survived. They get ice or gas and a generator and save whats in the freezer and tarp whatever is left of the roof to keep some water out, and they start the chainsaw work. Then the women and kids come back from MS or AL with more ice and water and gasoline. The men keep watch against looters and families help each other cleanup and rebuild.
Me and my family rode it out in Moss Bluff. A tree fell on our house inches away from us. I have bruises from the ceiling falling on me. I will NEVER do that again. It was terrifying. I can't even put it into words. We are alive and that's all that matters. Long road of homelessness ahead.

This was taken in a relatively safe distance from the worse danger. Imagine being on the shore where the storm surge is 10’ & you’re 15’ above sea level. You have a 10’ Class 3 river going through your house. You ave 5’ of house above the river. Out of that 5’, you have to 1) hope the 10’ in the water doesn’t wash away 2) hope a wave doesn’t sweep you off the roof 3) hope the wind doesn’t blow you off the roof into the river-...where waves 🌊 fly over your head in such frequency you can’t get air- where wind blows spray from the waves that you can’t breathe. 4 worry about getting crushed in the current as your body is like a rag doll in a washing machine......now so you see the folly of trying to be macho & “ride it out”? No wonder over 150 people are missing. who rejected wisdom & chose to “rise it out”. They’re gone. They’re dead. As their house around them collapsed in waves keep crashing in and they were thrown into the water with spray that feels like paintballs on your face & with waves 🌊 immersing your total head about every 5 seconds,...you realize you made a horrible choice to stay as you think about your loved ones who are not gonna see you as you face your imminent death. As I taught my son.....”never fight Nature.”
“Relatively safe distance from the worst danger” as sheets of metal and various objects and splintered glass are horizontally flying by - what are you talking about?! This IS showing the worst danger! ALL of Lake Charles!
Donna Jo Lake Charles was not in the worst danger. He did not say that they weren’t in danger, but instead said that they were away from the absolute worst part of the storm. The worst danger impacted the immediate coastline, particularly Cameron and Holly Beach.
@@Aaron-vu2uc My goodness, makes Laura look like a small breeze blowing through, I feel for everyone who loses everything, its getting worse with water rising in the UK but we dont have 190mph winds and,or Typhoons etc etc. Respect, , Mark.
City17.76 All I can say is that we stay for the people and the culture, not for the weather. The same can be said about everywhere else, we all have our own disasters. I used to think the same about Oklahoma and their tornadoes (I still do to a certain extent, but still)
City17.76 Although I appreciate your recognition as to my own choices, I can only admonish you as to your last comment. Given your logic, those who suffer from wildfires, tornadoes, floods, derechos, other severe storm damage, earthquakes, volcanic eruptions, dust storms, blizzards, and so on, shouldn't receive aid from their fellow countrymen purely based on them CHOOSING to live in that specific area where a natural disaster is at least possible; this, under no circumstances, is an acceptable line of reasoning. Natural disasters are not something to devalue a potential place to live, those who live in hurricane prone areas ARE prepared for hurricanes, it is in our building regulations, our school systems, our lives. There is only so much we can humanly prepare for and negate against nature itself, so requesting aid when a portion of the nation is ravaged by an unavoidable natural disaster is completely rational and warranted. So please, get off that high horse of yours and look me in the eye if you want to say that again, no matter who you are or where you live, being affected by a natural disaster DOES NOT call for you to look down on us for wanting access to food, people, culture, and a way of life that you can't get anywhere else in the nation.
City17.76 Hey here’s something for you to think about, maybe people are born into this state, impoverished and lack the funds the move wherever the hell they want to?? Think I like hurricanes? Heck no, I sure WISH I could just up and leave too bad I don’t have a house and job and family waiting for me elsewhere...
I'm sitting here at my computer at 2:00 into the video saying, "NOOOOOOOO........close your windows....that's glass shattering!!!" The wind is whipping that glass around.....so dangerous. Of course, WAS so dangerous to be near it. Laughing so hard when the "Port-o-potty" went flying down the road. Repeated that part of the video several times...;-)
Glad to see you guys back on. Watched your video as hurricane approached.. Then didn't see ya back on again till now. Thought you might have had a little too good of a view. Thx for sharing guys.. Plz stay safe out there. Love and respect from Southeast Arizona.. ❤
I was in Fort Myers, Florida when Hurricane Charley hit in 2004, I was just 10 years old. I remember being without power for awhile and we only had candles for light. Right behind my house my sister also lost one of her close friends when a huge tree got knocked over and it fell on him while he was outside briefly. He was like 21 or 22 I think, something around there. Hurricanes aren't to be underestimated, even Category 1's.

@@Harajukubarbie333 Not sure if you meant that comment in jest, but there are a few factors in play. One, not enough time. Capital One's Opportunity Cost of boarding up a skyscraper of this size, when everyone was unsure of where the hurricane is going to be, is way too high ($$$). In fact, I don't think a single skyscraper in history has ever been "boarded up". A similar occurrence (with Capital One Tower) happened during Rita, where the path of the storm was not known until much later, and the same exact tower had significant damage to its' glass facade. Following this event, they retrofitted the entire facade with "ballistic glass" that was able to withstand this storm until the 134mph winds hit. As these storms occur more often these next fifty years, and they will, I am sure there will be significantly less investments in cities on the coast. This building may just be sold, abandoned, or demo'd (especially considering the economy right now).
Interesting aerodynamics around that glass high rise plaza. I had a look on google maps: the surrounding area is quite open. The air is compressed between the carpark across the street, under the walkway, being compressed in a venturi and thus accelerated through, and moreso, underneath it. Also, the glass building is not square but in effect curved like a wing "airfoil" shape so the wind here is also accelerated across it. Any pilots concur?
I’ve been through a few hurricanes but never one that passed directly over my city. The closest Laura got to my city was exactly 79 miles west of us and we got crazy wind and rain and tornadoes. That storm was very wide for it to make an impact like I witnessed from as far as I was from it. They are both terrifying and incredible to witness
I rode out Laura myself and it was freaking intense! as I’m writing this I am getting chills because of the flashback I got. I was at a family members house, in the foundation beneath our feet was shaking and rocking. The wind and the rain sounded like a jet engine above our heads for 5 to 6 hours straight and the best I can really describe it, was like being near train tracks with the sound of a freight train coming at you
this year on 20 may CYCLONE AMPHAN(most powerful storm of last two decades) hits the eastern coast of india with wind speed upto 188 kmph. That was the first time i was frightened with the sound of wind.
Having been through quite a few hurricanes i can tell you you feel pretty small when the wind picks up,you hear the trees breaking and then the power goes out.
2:05 and this is why you stay away from widows during severe weather. Nothing like getting sprayed in the face by shards of glass traveling on 140 mph winds!
You have your destiny in hand but also ours, that of a whole nation that supports you unconditionally. United, combative and united you are stronger than Anyone! I shudder to write these sincere words because we had hope through you who bring us joy and pride .. Take a look at the Africans and see how your people live, I Even if you have to leave a bloody mane and a broken paw, you have to help the poor children in front of you, first you have to believe it to do it and do not forget that our life is in your hand, just provoke it, Give us body and soul, so that there is no regret, on the contrary that of happiness, Know that I adore you ... Let us prolong more the pleasure of helping me see the light of day All united behind you and your family...

It's amazing you guys got to film all this in the mist of risking your lives severely close to flying glass and metal sheets slicing at full speed. Totally scary.
Philip observer it’s midst not mist btw
Incredible, may be the best footage I've ever seen from within peak winds of a hurricane. I hope you were all able to avoid the projectiles, vehicles must take a battering though.
I appreciate living in Africa, no snow, no hurricanes or tsunamis, no serious earthquakes or volcanoes
Just poor governance which is worse

Everytime I see a live video of these, it makes me wonder what makes people who are not storm chasers, think they can ride this out in their house.....
Excellent video.
I think I rather chase a hurricane than a tornado any day
You have no idea how hard they work for their family home and for whats in the freezer, and damned if theyre gonna let a looter come take anything the storm didnt already take.
Been in many hurricanes and would never think of leaving. Tornado are to be avoided but hurricanes are fun.The weeks without power after its over is not fun though.

Window by window... broken by debris blowing around, or just high strength wind? Either way, it’s always sort of breathtaking,..the amount of power nature has.

That is the most impactful video of the reality of the savagery of the storms, and I have been through several on the Gulf Coast. Good job!
I am in NW Louisiana, and it was plenty bad enough up here. Authorities were telling folks to not stay in any room of their house that was covered by big trees. They were going down everywhere . Great video.

Are you a story writer? If not you should be!
You know, like they say "never fight Nature"
Wow
“Relatively safe distance from the worst danger” as sheets of metal and various objects and splintered glass are horizontally flying by - what are you talking about?! This IS showing the worst danger! ALL of Lake Charles!
Donna Jo Lake Charles was not in the worst danger. He did not say that they weren’t in danger, but instead said that they were away from the absolute worst part of the storm. The worst danger impacted the immediate coastline, particularly Cameron and Holly Beach.
This footage is incredible, never seen anything like it. wow.

I feel so bad for the people of Lake Charles, I was in Alexandria/Pineville, and we got 90 mph winds, I can't even imagine going through 140+
My house between Leesville and Alexandria. Half my metal of my roof. Glad i wasn’t home
I’m from Mamou, We had a tornado and a little over 100 mph winds, scared me half to death. Could only imagine being down there
City17.76 Hey here’s something for you to think about, maybe people are born into this state, impoverished and lack the funds the move wherever the hell they want to?? Think I like hurricanes? Heck no, I sure WISH I could just up and leave too bad I don’t have a house and job and family waiting for me elsewhere...

Too close to the Gulf for a glass building! Unbelievable strength!
Didn’t even bother to board it up smh
Alexis Collins Can you imagine trying to board up a building like that?
Nathan Commissariat oh well I know nothing about hurricanes actually sorry

this is a great cardio workout video. got the old heart pounding.
Best footage I've ever watched of a hurricane. Great job! I love storms. Watched this 3 times.
Oh where's your city? I'm in Opelousas
The eye of the storm was equivalent to an ef3 tornado.
