this is one of the best matches i've watched because of the quality of the tennis and the emotion. gonzo's usually emotional but to see reeshard showing fire was something rarely seen.
They had a lowkey heated rivalry, since young they faced each other a couple of times and always their matches were pretty close and really tense, with a Lot of shouting from both players, it's like they didnt like each other too much and that helped their spicy matches
This is still one of my all-time favorite matches. I don't even like either guy that much, but just the passion that they both displayed as well as how into the match the crowd was just made for a ridiculously entertaining atmosphere. I loved moments like 3:00 with the major grunts from both dudes and I definitely loved Gasquet's yell when he saved that first match point. I know that some people think grunting is annoying but as long as it's not over the top I think it adds excitement.
As a chilean, I woke up at 3 am to watch this match... and all was suffering until 3rd set tiebreak, but this is the Chilean way how we win tennis matches :D
Ariel A. Román I stayed up late to watch Murray gonzalez us open 2006 and watched a british tennis player learn to be tough for once. Gonzalez went nuts lol
@WelcomePie That's a great sum up. Gonzo often looks like he'd rather drill holes into his foot than hit a backhand, even though he has an excellent one and he won the match with a beautiful backhand winner.
Gasquet is really on a roll with these 5 setters, lol! Loses a 2 set to 0 lead against Murray at Wimbledon in 2008, loses a 2-1 lead at USO to Haas in 2008, loses a 2-0 lead to Gonzalez in this match, loses a 2-0 lead to Youzhny at the AO in 2010, loses a 2-0 lead to Murray at the French in 2010.
Do you guys know anything about tennis?? Gonzalez hit some backhad way more difficult than forehands. He hasn't bad backhand at all. And Gasquet has nice forehand too. Their ''weak'' shots aren't weak and their ''strong shots aren't the best in the world for me.
this is what olympic tennis should be like. UNBELIEVABLE ATMOSPHERE, shot-speed, winners and all round tennis. The only really bad miss of the whole match was gasquet's missed backhand return off the gonzalez weak second serve at 7-6 in the breaker. That's not in these highlights though. I can't say it's a gasquet choke but man, what a bad miss on Match Point 2-0 up...
I remember watching the whole match, live. That was some crazy funky shit. Too bad Gasquet was eager to show how bad his mental strenght is... Seriously, how many matches did he end up losing after having a 2 sets lead?
Gasquet's problem with letting 2 sets to love leads go is that he always seems to just let the 4th set go. I didn't watch the 2010 match with Youzhny, but I've seen the others and he always fights really hard in the third but then just lets the 4th go and then tries to come back in the 5th. I know that some players do this once they're down in the 4th, but to me it's just a reflection of lacking conditioning. I think if he fought in the 4th he would have won at least one of those matches.
his problem is everywhere, mental, physical, his game isn't good enough- even the best backhand isn't enough with an average serve/fh (at best). IMO his forehand sits up for everybody, it doesn't really do damage unless he goes all out on it, and then he misses a lot unless he's on fire. Essentially he has to be on fire to win against most players, which is not a good thing. And he's no longer young any more, if he's going to take the next step it has to be this yr or the next. i hope he does.
@vulyone1 both of them are massive choke artists (gonzo/gasquet), gasquet even a sadder story because he is easily the most talented player outside of the top 10 or so
Gonzales best forehand of the tennis History.. to bad that it was his only wepon : ( imagine that forehand with the speed of nadal and teqnique of federer!
This felt like a Davis Cup match, one of the craziest atmospheres I’ve ever seen.
best backhand vs best forehand!!!
Gonzo is a pure showman. Love it.
Holy shit i remember this match. Amazing final shot too
Gonzalez had a great game, great competitor and exciting player!
Thank you!! One of the best matches at the AO

Gonzo hit more backhand winners than Gasquet on this match, i don't remember the numbers exactly
what an awesome crowd
my two favourite players
And gonzo won with a backhand D
Nice Crowd! Where have these crowds been!? It's so quiet now...
Gonzalez went nuts lol
you got to love a match where all the crucial points are winners instead of unforced errors. Love it!
@WelcomePie That's a great sum up. Gonzo often looks like he'd rather drill holes into his foot than hit a backhand, even though he has an excellent one and he won the match with a beautiful backhand winner.
this gasquet was so fun to watch, a couple of nice backhandcross and the just hit a backhand down the line straight. just wow
An instant classic
what a match.. amazing, and exhausting
a classic match
The one-handed backhand is not dead !
it's so ironic that gonzalez wins it with a backhand winner T_T
Please make a video of this match in HD. I will personally fund it if necessary.
Gasquet, never fails to disapoint. Still a great match though. Were the two competitors still good sports after the match?
I miss Gone(Z)ales man. Such a beautiful forehand player.
One of the craziest match ever!
I wish Gasquet would start playing aggressive like this again
partidazooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo!!!! grande Gonzalez

Can't believe Gasquet lost this match. Still my favorite of all time tho. Jus didn't like the result.
@Forza15Inter Yes he's got Gonzalez's forehand, gasquet's backhand and roddick's serve. Also, federer is magic. his racket is his wand.
Never thought i'd attend a match where somebody sets a flare off in the stands, it deserved it though, incredible match and atmosphere
The Forehand vs the Backhand!!
i love you, Richard!
imagine a player with gasquets backhand and gonzalez forehand.
7:52 never saw such Gasque
Q partidazo lleno de los emociones!
I remember watching the whole match, live. That was some crazy funky shit. Too bad Gasquet was eager to show how bad his mental strenght is... Seriously, how many matches did he end up losing after having a 2 sets lead?
really nice volley's from gonzalez, just absorbing that power wich gasquet gives.
Gasquet's problem with letting 2 sets to love leads go is that he always seems to just let the 4th set go. The Forehand Vs. The Backhand
How many matches has Gasquet lost after being ahead two sets? I know of three now: This one, and two to Murray
He's coming to these matches coked up. How can you expect consistency?
just epic!
@jasonfrey13 - Are you serious????
Gonzalez is one of the best tennis players and Gonzalez has got the best forehand on tour with Roger!!
Gasquet is so talented but look how feisty he is here he should be more like this again here's getting there
EPIC!
@homergrandslama29 No... He's ranked 11th ATM. He's just been under the headlines.
@tennisproderek He is playing Wimbledon right now, returning from a injury...
and gonzalez won the match with gasquest best weapon!!!!!
My favorite part is 7:08-7:11, just hilarious
his problem is everywhere, mental, physical, his game isn't good enough- even the best backhand isn't enough with an average serve/fh (at best). @tennisproderek Surgery to the hip, hes back but with some obvious problems after months out of the tour.
My bad! You're actually right.
GRANDE BONBARDERO DE LA REINA
00:19 - Was that not the best backhand shot ever? And then he did it again at 2:08!
I don't think Gonzalez shouted enough vamos in this match.
Cuanto duro este partido ?
Did gasquet retire just wondering
@vulyone1 both of them are massive choke artists (gonzo/gasquet), gasquet even a sadder story because he is easily the most talented player outside of the top 10 or so
"ahora gonzalez!!!"
Crazy!!
partido reqlio wm Dx !! ida y vueltaa
No it's not. It's González.
Gonzales best forehand of the tennis History.. to bad that it was his only wepon : ( imagine that forehand with the speed of nadal and teqnique of federer!
if u combine this two u have half roger
Should be illegal for the crowd not the be this awesome all the time lmao
The Forehand vs The Backhand.
Who cares about Nadal/Federer? This was the best match ever!
wow, the shot making in this match. Makes me want to just piledrive an inaminate object.
what hustle from Gonzalez @ 3:47
gonzos forehand is soooo random
Epic
Whens the last time Gasquet's won a five set match lol?
@WelcomePie damn right Dudeeee!!!!!!!!
@WelcomePie Exactly my thoughts
