The flashiest feature of Obsidian is its node graph. It's very popular, but as you noted not as useful as it seems it should be. What I really wish for Devonthink would be a whiteboard feature. As long as you don't sync or collaborate, you can do whiteboards with Curio side-by-side with Devonthink. Unfortunately, once you sync to a second machine you lose linkage from Curio to external files. Two quick observations, too. Three, if you count my appreciative comments about your channel. The node script may produce a warning that the node graph window is consuming a lot of energy. If that happens, click the "freeze" link and I believe it will settle things down. That MacOS warning seems to come from the script constantly recalculating forces for layout. Node graphs are also complimented by smart groups. If you do a command-A to select things, you have to have all the groups and subgroups expanded. Otherwise, the selection skips hidden items. A smart group set to include all documents presents them as a flat list. Double click on a smart group to display just that group, command-A, then run the node script. That works for focussed node groups, too. Save a search in a smart group, then you can have a node map of just that group. Let's see... Something else... Oh, right, observation three - great channel!
You have the BEST insight and suggestions. Thanks for sharing them with us. I tried a smart group but, for an uninteresting reason, it did not work very well. I'm hoping that as my Datz database grows I can assemble a new smart group without the problem of my existing ones, and then can try making more graphs. Also, I know I owe you an email. My day job got so busy with end of year projects wrapping up. But it's still on my radar! Happy holidays from us both! ~Avigail
