Sometimes I like to take risks to save money, this way I can evaluate whether or not it was worth doing and report it to you. Here is what I found out buying lifts from China vs retailers in the US.

This. This is what the youtube comment section was made for
@@epicrages7775 thougbt it was for crying. Well thats when the news comment section is for
This is the comment that I was looking for
Your comments every time rekindles me each and every time that Rob really has the patience of the saint to put up with your moronic comments
I would go post comments on your videos and have 10 of my friends do the same but we do not want th ok at videos with 300 views to have 310.
that was damn solid
"whats the worst that can happen" dont challenge the alibaba gods my friend
right? thats the last thing you say when you buy from them 🤣
Very similar to how my $800 carbon fiber hardtop for a Miata, imported from Shanghai, really ended up costing me about $1600-$2000. Once you factor in taxes and shipping, there goes the amazing deal. Also customs really feels subjective in how they treat you. Between different time zones and unclear steps of the process, you feel like your goods are held hostage!
“Steel is steel”
Ok, I can dispel this theory easily.
I worked as a fabricator in a steel supply yard for 5 years. The company usually purchase USA/Canada or SSAB German or Swiss steel.
Average price at the time was $0.80 a lb
One day a load of Chinese steel came in, it was $0.40 a lb. It look just like the USA steel we had on the ground, all the certification stated it was “A36” structural steel.
In a matter of 2 weeks it rusted up like it had been on the ocean floor for 10 years. When I cut it on the plasma table it stunk like a dumpster fire. The steel was full of contaminants, the plasma arch would splatter like there was air pockets.
The owner of the company came down to the shop- look at the head of operations and said “get this dog shit off my fucking property and make sure it’s all scrapped-“
Turn out Chinese and Russian steel almost never meets certification. They just pull out the stamp for what ever grade you’re looking to buy and suddenly it’s “a36” or “AR500”
So no- Chinese steel is not same/same.
same for india
AYMEN.
Last year my uncle who works at a port/dock in Tampico México, told me that the boats were bringing in bad chinese steel and taking out whatever steel was here in México.
I guess thats why pro companies use XRF analyser😅
@@Executor009BUT we all going to agree that the purchased lifts is working as they should do isnt 😏
Ohhh, so thats who Matt Farrah was talking about on one of his podcasts when he was roasting a guy buying Alibaba lifts for his company because he was too cheap and that was saying "steel is steel" lmao
15K on a wire transfer Rob is living life on the Edge
The guy who was going to sell it to you for $3800 complained to the manufacture about Walmart selling them for $3250 in that the manufacture had MAP pricing on the item. The manufacture called Walmart and told them if you sell these for $3250 we won't ship you. So Walmart cancelled your order in order to keep the supplier.
this guy with the FACTS
"Cancelled your order to keep the supplier" cracked me up... The ATEXH-PRO8000EXT-L lifts haven't been available through Wal-Fart since he posted his original video.
What is MAP?
@@BigEvan96 Minimum Advertised Price
were they these same lifts. would fit in the price with profit :D
Hope they work out. You probably could of got a sponsorship from a US lift company. Every car youtube has done it xD
Bendpak will throw massive discounts at anyone with a pulse and 100,000 subs.
Next episode: My lifts failed and I lost 1 mil. $ in cars
@@Chris-hw4mq an absolute guarantee. "My Chinese Lift Failed and Crushed my Ferrari" before Christmas.
sponsored lift content would've been boring as f though.
I do kinda suspect some of those lift sponsorship-discounts are more like just discounts.
Honestly this has sold me more on a US lift than any sponsored video could. It's a known premium for a warranty and support.
I feel like when it comes to millions of dollars worth of cars, maybe just maybe you shouldn't cheap out on something like lifts.
That's the joy of insurance.
802 Garage insurance doesn’t cover that it’s not a act of “god “
@@Viggggggr I think you're very confused about insurance. It will absolutely cover lift failures as long as it's in the insurance policy. Insurance often does not cover acts of God.
I completely agree. He’s just incredibly cheap
Maybe you hadn't noticed... But as a long time viewer It seems to me that his business model for exotic rentals brings in 2/3rds of it's profit from insurance claims and litigation.
I unplug my incredibly cheap Chinese ultrasonic cleaner every time I am done using it because I don't want my house to burn down.
🤚🤣🤣
The thing is, if it's the harbor freight model that's about 80-90$ there are some gun manufacturers that relabel them with their name on it and charge double the price.
Next episode: how I totaled my 35+ cars
But but but he saved a few hundred dollars per lift to go through so much more trouble
31 cars. 2 cars are on a quality lift. 2 cars on side
Non UL listed means Insurance premiums increase. His premiums increase our premiums increase.
WOW you bought the Brooklyn bridge? Impressive.
👍👍👍😁😁😁😁
He should have actually replied to that guy with the pic 🤣
For 8 lifts I can see this made sense, for one or two for the garage/shop at your home, doesn’t seem like the costs pencils out for the work be just buying from a US vendor.
well you're basically paying for them to handle the order and bear the risk of it.
In today's episode, Mr. Spaghetti shows how some Chinese build frying pans, have their value as iron weight.
I have a chinese 1 post lift for 6 years now. I would not recommending getting one. We use ist about once a week and many issues started showing up. It was not welded straight, the material is not strong enough on some parts, parts would bend more than on other lifts, the lockout would jam from time to time, there is too much play in many parts and it would hang down if you get to the 5000pounds they advertise.
I would get a lift made in Italy next time.
Thank you so Much Rob for the incredible video giving all the details!! Extremely helpful, good luck hope to see more of your videos…as I mentioned very helpful!
Let's see what holds up longer, Rob's Brooklyn Bridge or Rob's Chinese lifts
the bridge is made with Chinese parts anyways
@@blakecarr3544 Chinese parts being human you mean?
Warehouse looking spectacular. Congrats Rob. Happy to see you expanding
Awesome video quality and editing! Love it.
steel is not steel, there are many grades and each have their own specifications
Not just that. I have seen steel from china/India that isn’t the same quality as domestic steel. I work with machine shops, any shop doing work for the military has to have material from the us and the material has to have certification documents. Steel is not steel
@@jimhimesjr any Chinese rubber parts like motor mounts and coolant bypass caps rot apart in like a year.
Not sure what they leave out of their rubber formulation but it's crap.
Chinesium!
Exactly, and how it was heat treated is just, if not more important.
@@jguillot72 easy to obtain, but not very precious.
He walks into his shop one day and every car on the bottom has been crushed be the lifts all failing lol 😂
This was actually was super informative. Thank you.
Thanks. Ur video was very informative. Thanks buddy.
Yo Rob thx for the information.
Rob I love your channel been following you forever probably one of the longest RUclips channels I followed but you're not a broke bum, pay for the right stuff the first time or you're going to pay twice later and then some, plus the feeling of how stupid it was not to do it right to begin with.. that logic pretty much goes for everything in life and with how successful you are elsewhere I have to think you know that... Lucky for you at the end of the day you still have content out of it that's the only saving grace here..
Exactly. Save a penny, spend a dollar.
“This is my Brooklyn bridge” had me dying laughing
Now I know for sure you're the guy that goes for the cheapest price no matter what and you always end up doing it twice cuz it's good for content
For real. Rob I’ve been watching for 10 years and this is easily the cheapest thing you ever done. All that labor for $200-$800 in savings?
@@bruhice6058 Cause he didn't expect all the extra stuff, he even said he thought it was gonna be around 2k per lift instead
Ummmm...you've never heard of HOOVIES GARAGE?
Rob's IQ must be really low, like 85 or something. Scary
That's why I'm here
It's not about the weight but the quality of the steel. Steel is definitely not steel.
Alot of the Chinese brands are the rejects
All steel isn't the same. The bigger issue is the poor welds. That guy making 50 cents a day not going to care about penetration lol... Do they do non destructive testing on the welds every 5 or 10 lifts in random locations ?
i would be more afraid of the moving parts being the weak link, with so little weight on them
"whats the worst that can happen" i guess this will answer itself in another video
The bump in quality on the videos is noticeable, much better editing. Congrats!
Hope the lifts work out.
The stock footage edited in is really funny and enjoyable to watch :P
Video quality is pretty nice there Mr spaghetti!
This was surprisingly insightful. Can't believe you took the risk but glad it worked out.
How do you get those balls past the TSA? Nice one Rob! Thank you for the education 🤓
incredible camera angles
So glad you got those lifts especially after that recent flood. Glad to see that anything Italian or really valuable is up in the air above any potential water line. Your car site is the least dumb of all the RUclips car sites the least goofy... I like that. Okay there's some goofiness. Between floods, burglars and trips to Banff you *do lead* an exciting life!
Congrats on that bridge purchase dude,..you must be proud
great video!
These lifts are made from Chinesium, a much weaker steel made from recycled bicycles..
Great video 👏👏🙌
How are the Builds of these China 4 post lifts? How are the welds and are metal thin? I'd buy U.S. Made for parts and service+
That set up looks really clean. I'd pay just to walk along that row and sightsee.
Looking good 👍. Now, when do the t- shirts ship? Just wondering
I have the exact same lift in my garage and I love it! Mine was right at $4k shipping and all.
My dad and I just put together a "Backyard Buddy" lift in his garage a few weeks ago. Cost him about 6k all in.
I've used them in a commercial workshops for many years, keep up the maintenance, change the fluid , grease and check stuff , all good.
Love ya Rob but we're seriously overdue for a new intro...!😁👏
the brooklyn bridge part is hilarious😂
When importing its safer to use a Letter of Credit through a bank to make sure you receive the goods.
I was wondering what happened with this. Thanks for the update.
Would an insurance company ask any questions about where you got your lift from if it dropped the 458 on the Continental GT you had insured with them?
I like the edits in the background
Can you tell me your experience on the buying car process like for shipping & clean title? Any problems
Do you plan on adding additional sheetmetal in the gaps? Could be trouble if some engine or trans oil drips onto the cars on the ground level.
it looks like he has some plastic drip trays that slot in between the rails
I hope you didn't buy the "doesn't need securing the columns to the floor" fairy tale and secured them to the floor, Rob.
i think we all know....
Another life’s lesson from, the Man, Rob Ferretti.
Excellent review.
With all that new expertise, now you can open a sideline - importing lifts from China. 😉
Eric, in Montréal.
Rob has the best business stories
i lost it when the bridge pic popped up, lol
Rob, hows the build quality compared to the Rotary?
Is this being recorded with a drone? that low angle shot haha
id like to see an update on them a year from now
He’ll be complaining about the quality of them
Will mr spaghetti find out that steel is steel. Is the same as Pittsburgh jack stands. Stay tuned for a future episode of Mr spaghetti and ratatouille take on Chinese food.
Cheaper by a few hundred dollars. Or even a thousand dollars for more work and no warranty? That's a red flag for me. But I'm glad you're doing this for all of us to see.
For $9000 you could’ve shipped them to California (and halfway back) not to Teaneck, NJ from the port. Trucking company probably got $300-500 for this delivery.
Good chunk likely was what port charged to handle it.
Yeah was thinking wouldn't it have been a lot cheaper to stack them all in a single container? I know prices have exploded but $9k from the port sounds wild.
I bought my 8000lb triumph extra long and extra tall a year and a half ago from National auto for $2700 including shipping, today that same lift is $3900, not sure if the shipping is still included tho.
Pro tip: if you buy from them, get the grey one, it automatically comes with aluminum ramps no extra charge.
It’s been flawless.
Could u not get a bendpack sponsorship? Theyve gave like literally every youtuber free lifts
My dad needed two detroit v16 92 series engines for parts. The motors came with zf gearboxes were a steal at 75 grand. It cost him 16 grand extra to pay shipping/customs brokers on both sides. Still cheaper than Amish engine guy or other options. Haha
Lol the Brooklyn bridge pic!
I bought the same lifts and they got ruined by the shipping company it looks like they fell out of their truck on the highway and there was literally no compensation
Ok, so that's the purchasing part of it... Tell us about the install, operation, and build quality!
How long did the whole transaction take time wise months or weeks how many delays and or shipping inconvenience any details timeframe in transaction and upon buyer received payment how long for those orders take to finalize to be shipped on port ship
Slick set up !
mr.spaghetti -what’s the worst that’s can happen.
Alibaba - hold my beer.
I wonder how much would be saved by buying a container load? Get a group buy together. I need one 2 post lift and four 4 post lifts.
Good luck with your Chinese made lifts, you are going to need it...
Rob- how much did the paintings in the back of the shop cost? I'll have a real comment after watching lol
Steel is Steel...!
Oh dear Rob... you need to go back to school.
Steel is most definitely NOT steel...!
This is the episode we get to meet Cheap and cheerful Rob...!.. LoL...
Can't wait for the episode we get to see "squashed cars...!
I'll give it 3 years...
Hey rob, do you still have interests in doing those tea and live streams again?
Steel ain't steel...
How is your luggage coming along.
idk why but the here's a picture of my Brooklyn Bridge i bought it. had me dieing lmfao 😂 🤣
And that is the reason around me all of my friends buy used lifts. I know its not apples to apples but if you only need one or two look for used you can save thousands that way.
Hey, you may want to look into your insurance policy. Don't know if it's a selling tactic but a lift salesperson told me that accidents that occur on lifts that are NOT ALI certified are NOT covered by your insurance. Again, not sure if it's true but something you may want to look into. Just in case
5:00 ports are closed. Not a scam, my partner and I ordered a large UV flat bed printer that was held up in Shanghai for 5 months. It's on its way now finally.
The way the world economy works is fascinating and terrifying at the same time.
Shouldn’t they be bolted down?
Use Ocean Marine Shipping for your maritime shipping needs they have an excellent service.
It would have been the cherry on top if you demonstrated a cat going on and off the lift.
Is there any buyer protection buying from Alibaba ??????
Why didn’t you bolt them to the floor ?
What’s with the RGB lighting over the car behind you?
I got a Chinese lift for my shop last year just for storage. I use it once a month and store a mini on it. The safety stuck on my one post. Almost had a catastrophe.
just weld some additional gussets for more safety
CHI-NA
could you have arranged your own shipping from the port? aren't you in NJ?
Rob trying to tell me that drop shipping 4 post lifts isn't the passive icome source I was orginally sold
There was a local guy(to east Tenn) was advertising em 2599 installed
Super interesting
Rob's Pasta Palace is now buying Chinese pasta. His supplier in the states wants $25 per
20 lb container of pasta. He found Chinese Pasta for $15 per 20 lb container. after all import costs, it came to $24.65 per 20 lb container. BUT, he is saving money! Just not as much as he thought.....
Spaghetti spent big for this one. Meatballs and extra cheese PLUS a videographer and editor! Fancy.
