Very similar to how my $800 carbon fiber hardtop for a Miata, imported from Shanghai, really ended up costing me about $1600-$2000. Once you factor in taxes and shipping, there goes the amazing deal. Also customs really feels subjective in how they treat you. Between different time zones and unclear steps of the process, you feel like your goods are held hostage!

    “Steel is steel”
Ok, I can dispel this theory easily.
I worked as a fabricator in a steel supply yard for 5 years. The company usually purchase USA/Canada or SSAB German or Swiss steel.
Average price at the time was $0.80 a lb
One day a load of Chinese steel came in, it was $0.40 a lb. It look just like the USA steel we had on the ground, all the certification stated it was “A36” structural steel.
In a matter of 2 weeks it rusted up like it had been on the ocean floor for 10 years. When I cut it on the plasma table it stunk like a dumpster fire. The steel was full of contaminants, the plasma arch would splatter like there was air pockets.
The owner of the company came down to the shop- look at the head of operations and said “get this dog shit off my fucking property and make sure it’s all scrapped-“
Turn out Chinese and Russian steel almost never meets certification. They just pull out the stamp for what ever grade you’re looking to buy and suddenly it’s “a36” or “AR500”
So no- Chinese steel is not same/same.

I have a chinese 1 post lift for 6 years now. I would not recommending getting one. We use ist about once a week and many issues started showing up. It was not welded straight, the material is not strong enough on some parts, parts would bend more than on other lifts, the lockout would jam from time to time, there is too much play in many parts and it would hang down if you get to the 5000pounds they advertise.
I would get a lift made in Italy next time.

And that is the reason around me all of my friends buy used lifts. I know its not apples to apples but if you only need one or two look for used you can save thousands that way.

Hey, you may want to look into your insurance policy. Don't know if it's a selling tactic but a lift salesperson told me that accidents that occur on lifts that are NOT ALI certified are NOT covered by your insurance. Again, not sure if it's true but something you may want to look into. Just in case

5:00 ports are closed. Not a scam, my partner and I ordered a large UV flat bed printer that was held up in Shanghai for 5 months. It's on its way now finally.

It would have been the cherry on top if you demonstrated a cat going on and off the lift.

I got a Chinese lift for my shop last year just for storage. I use it once a month and store a mini on it. The safety stuck on my one post. Almost had a catastrophe.

Rob's Pasta Palace is now buying Chinese pasta. His supplier in the states wants $25 per
20 lb container of pasta. He found Chinese Pasta for $15 per 20 lb container. after all import costs, it came to $24.65 per 20 lb container. BUT, he is saving money! Just not as much as he thought.....

Spaghetti spent big for this one. Meatballs and extra cheese PLUS a videographer and editor! Fancy.
