They have so many greats, like "I'm a working man" and " dance little Jean." I'll cry each time, from heart felt understanding.

Arthel "Doc" Watson was one the true legends of "traditional folk music. This album introduced him to a wider (younger) audience (at age 49)in 1972. He continued to amaze audiences with his flatpicking style for 40 years until his passing at age 89 in 2012. You should give his work with his son Merle a good listen! The song Deep River Blues is a good starting place.

Love your new announcement team, they rock!
I grew up on Eddy Arnold's version of this, it was my favorite song at five or six. Didn't hear Doc's version until I was grown. Both are fine renditions.
I don't think there is a bad pick on this album, if you want to go further with this,
    Peace, y'all!

Great album. Doc Watson alone is a treasure. Saw him a number of times in Memphis, and was lucky enough to see him play with his son Merle before his death. I hope you are enjoying this type of music. I love it!! Good to see you, P.J.

My introduction to the NGDB: in the early 70s - could have been ‘72 when I would have been 12 - our family of 6 had tickets to see Fiddler on the Roof with Zero Mostel. The show was to be at the auditorium of Western Michigan Univ, in Kalamazoo, about an hour from where we lived. On the appointed day, a blizzard covered our side of the state. So we did what midwesterners do, we left home an hour early.
I don’t recall if we were on time, early, or late but we immediately learned that the cast of Fiddler was stranded in another city. Airports closed, some highways closed, this was a once in a couple decades blizzard. Meanwhile, we were in our auditorium seats listening to the occasional announcements. I remember they were encouraging people to😮 stay put and not to try to drive home if their destination took them toward Lake Michigan from Kalamazoo. They also announced that they would be re-issuing tickets for Fiddler and were working on some surprise entertainment for this night.
As it turned out, not only coukd the cast of Fiddler not get to Kalamazoo, the band members and crew for NGDB were stuck in Kalamazoo, canceing their show in another city for that night after having played another venue in Kalamazoo the previous night. About 30 minutes later there was another announcement introducing NGDB for a free full concert. Incredible. Why nobody here has asked yet about “Mr. Bojangles” I do not know but it was the best part of that night for me, and has been countless other times in the 50+ years since.
Thanks for presenting Tennessee Stud so well, and for including your (some of them) grandkids. Being “Papa” is the best gig I have ever had. I hope it’s the same for you, PJ.

My first reaction was, "WOW!!! You got to see Fiddler with Zero Mostel???!" My second reaction was, "Awwww. You didn't get to see Fiddler with Zero Mostel... 😢😢😢😢." But it sounds as if it turned out pretty well. :-)
I grew up in SW Ohio and man, we also had some c-r-r-r-a-a-a-a-z-z-z-y-y snowstorms - and ice storms. As a young woman I worked as a long distance telephone operator for a few years, and one winter Cincinnati Bell put some of us operators up in a downtown hotel for a couple of nights, because they knew if we went home we couldn't get back downtown! (Cincy is extremely hilly.) Glad you and your family not only stayed safe but had a great time!

@@tonkabeanpumpkin-fh4fz they managed to get Zero Mostel and the Fiddler cast back sometime that spring and honored our tickets. He was an imposing and impressive man! Terrific show. I have done have a dozen eulogies over the years and always include a line he sung: “God would like us to be joyful even when our hearts lie panting on the floor!”

The gritty boys wanted to get with the older generation and had some push back, i.e. ,Roy Acuff . I can't remember what brought him around. Mother Maybelle was all in I think.

Omg, am I allowed to say that those kids are the cutest? (They'll probably hate that - "cutest," but you know what I mean! Good-looking and lots of personality. 🤩You have your charm and charisma, Pj, but I think they may have you beat.) That song is pure entertainment from beginning to end. "Uncle Fudd..." 😅 That's some very fine playing, too! Loved it, and enjoyed your reaction very much. More of this band would be welcome. Good to see you, Pj. Hope you're feeling fine.

I agree with you CUTE. As for the song, what a fun trip. I have to tell you, I don't do horses. I've had a couple of issues with them. Remind me to talk about horses the next time you come on live. I am doing really well, had a wonderful visit with the kids this past weekend. My heart is full. I hope you are well dear friend.
