In this video I explain why chimney crickets should extend out beyond the chimney on both sides. The cricket should be wider than the chimney to prevents the cricket valley from directing water into the chimney.

Well at least they added a cricket. I'm shocked at the amount of houses lacking them.

We call it a Saddle where I'm from not a cricket, crickets are what we use in flatroofing ,funny how different it is lingo wise in different places.
But yes 100% it should shoot past.
Just did a big town block with a bunch of Parapet walls and the framers never ran anything past the walls it was a nightmare to get them to fix it.
I manly do new work so I would not get paid to fix it for them lol.

Chimney sweep here, I never knew this about crickets. If a customer of mine were to have this problem, who could I turn them towards to have it corrected? Will a reputable roofer suffice?

I've never seen a single cricket go past the corners of a chimney, that wouldn't even look good. I've shingled over hundreds of them and never had a leak, you just need to know what you're doing.... period. What I will say is this; the flashing on the corners should definitely come out more to serve as a diverter
