Love this. Checking it out after spotting a copy of the sheet music going for a good price. What an amazing piece!

I have often wondered why there was never any Ravel to orchestrate this piece for full orchestra: the finest epitaph on the First World War there is.

I live in Elgar country with his birthplace a few miles away, I have sung his choral works so many times including Worcester, Hereford and Gloucester, I attend ‘his ‘church’ - but to my shame was totally unaware of this beautiful A minor piano quintet.... better late than never!
It’s deeply moving, tender yet powerful, all that I love of this extraordinary man’s music.

Best performance of this stunningly intellectual piece. It does reflect Elgar's lonely walks a lot. Elgar is so pigeonholed but this work has so much brilliance, more Enigma than nationalistic in character.

What a pity there aren't more comments on this tremendous work, only one of three chamber pieces wrirtten by Elgar. He really should have written more. Ths wonderful performance gives the lie that Elgar was a superficial 'jigosistic' composer, rooted in the narrow constraints of the Victorian era. He was a deeply sensitive and complex person, as is shown in this deeply moving quintet.

Agree on all counts. The opening in particular is reminiscent of Faure's piano quartets, but the soundscape sounds, to me, very Elgar. His violin sonata and string quartet are both strong too.

He has written many chamber works in his youth for winds. No one ever performs them because they sound nothing like Elgar. But they are very nice pieces.
