    Hey man! love your content 🙌 quick question, as someone trying to move away from smartphones but still looking to have a few smartphone-like features I love the sun beam line. But when it comes to music and podcasts I pretty much rely on Spotify. I know there arent too many dumbphones that support Spotify without having access to all other apps that I dont want(browser, social media etc.) so do you have any recommendations for a Spotify-friendly mp3 player or other device to pair with a dumb phone? I know the mighty is not the best so I wanted to know your thoughts on this issue and if you had any work arounds. Thanks!

      Ok. There are two options. Something like the Hiby M300 should be good enough. Or the Delphin 2.0 which is an niche underwater product with focus on Spotify, Audible, etc, only. www.underwateraudio.com/products/delphin-waterproof-streaming-media-player

    Hey I have an issue on a Kyocera duraXE epic. With Mint Mobile, the hotspot does not work. I know 2 other people that have this identical issue. Would be awesome to have a professional look into it.

    • @JoseBriones
      @JoseBriones  2 месяца назад +1

      This is an AT&T limitation. They block any SIM card that is not AT&T on the Kyocera DuraXE. I recommend looking into alternative ways to activate the Hotspot like FoxFi or PDANet. The phone is capable, but the configuration blocks it.

      Good info. First person to tell me why this is an issue. Mint support was no help, but I never figured AT&T would be sticking their nose in.

    Hey man, any opinions on the Mudita Kompakt or the minimal phone?
    I honestly can't get into the LP3, not saying it is a bad product it is just too mainstream smartphone for me. Eink is easy on the eyes, the battery and it makes me use the device only when necessary, I'll stick to LP2 or MK.
    Honestly the only thing I need on the lp2 is Uber.
    Cheers from Costa Rica.
    Edit: Just found the minimal phone entry & the MK one (android is such a bummer...)

    • @JoseBriones
      @JoseBriones  2 месяца назад

      Mudita should be decent, but if you want to stay away from Android, neither option is the best. Mudita is better than Minimal in the sense that they will probably restrict their OS more and only allow tools and not full featured apps.

      @@JoseBriones Yeah... I guess I had high hopes for the MK to be like the original mudita which I understood it to be some kind of linux fork. Even in lightphone, the fact the use AOSP makes me feel the phone is tainted... guess that's what happens after one has worked with big tech.

    That Mailbug looks like the Mailstation that I had many years ago. When you say standard phone line, do you mean an RJ11/12 type connection?

    • @shmendy
      @shmendy 2 месяца назад

      The mail bug is also a subscription device.
      I'd buy it if I could connect to any email provider

    • @JoseBriones
      @JoseBriones  2 месяца назад

      Yes. One of the older connectors. But I believe you can also connect it to a router. More testing to come!

    • @scottd4610
      @scottd4610 2 месяца назад

      @JoseBriones My interest is piqued. If able to connect to a router then it's a standard RJ45 Ethenet network connection. If a conventional phone cord, i.e. RJ11 or 12, then I think many would find their current networks aren't compatible.

      @@scottd4610 Best of it could connect with an RJ-11.

    I bought a Kyocera that I threw away since it is absolute garbage so I immediately bought the cheapest ATT dumb phone which satisfies my needs after I painted a white stripe on the lower portion in order to make it easy to determine which end of the phone to flip up.

      Which Kyocera did you get I loved my Dura XE years ago may I ask why you didn't like yours?

    • @deltasquared7777
      @deltasquared7777 2 месяца назад

      @@michaeldhondt368 I had used a succession of blackberrys which were fine but more than I need, followed by a Samsung and Ruggers. I got the Kyocera when 5G made service no longer available for my older phones. If I find where I threw the Kyocera (still in its original box)I will let you know what model. It is extraordinarily heavy and clumsy for what it does; I don't care to carry a backpack just to hold a cellphone and be carried back to the days when mobile phones were bigger than rotary phones. Kyocera also had poor reception and sound quality.

    Regarding your rant around 1:05:00 Heres the thing your not taking into account, google makes tons of money off ads for 'free' services and apple makes tons from app store fees. If you want good dumb phones to exist they have to make money somehow otherwise they wont be around long term. Im working on making a distraction free phone and it is incredibly difficult and if your not able to mark up the phone and/or have a subscription service built in theres no way you can survive. So I get that you know how the cookie is made but comparing a phone bundled with google services to one without is not a fair comparison. Not to mention discounts they are able to offer for carrier deals. I want to see this category of phones thrive and you do a lot of good getting the word out but please understand when your either trading all your data for a low cost device or service from massive companies who can afford to lose money or you may have to pay more for these more niche devices especially until they reach economies of scale if they can survive the short term. Just some thoughts. Great content as always.
