Superb, best train vid ever, thanks. I couldn't help but imagine what a late '30s kid would think of having, no, just seeing such a layout and collection of trains! No plains, phones, TV, computers and just an occasional glimpse of the huge, fire breathing real things. I'm only a decade later so I guess I can imagine more than some. Again ... thanks.
Sean, that's not just a layout, it's an achievement! It's the Standard Gauge layout Joshua Lionel Cowen WISHED he had! Just incredible! I don't know how high the bar's been set for Standard Gauge layouts but what ever it is you've jumped over it! Well done, well done indeed! Just the absolute best blend of practicality and whimsy you'd want for Standard Gauge! And a great selection of music for the video, classic Swing! We couldn't have won WW2 without it! And that's a nice touch of the 48 star flag by the firehouse, perfect for the era. Thanks so much for the video, made my day! One last thing, LOVE the Strasburg train, cute as a button!
@@seanstraindepot Oh that's easy in my case, flags and flag histories are another hobby of mine and they're a fascinating study when you get into it. The 48 star flag is one of my favorites, in use from 1912 to 1959 it's got an incredible amount of history behind it. It's been called "The Flag of Liberation" and not for nothing!
* Maybe your the one to ask. The Strasburg you enjoyed on the elevated level of Seams standard gauge is one interested in looking for on regular O-gaute if possible and the Penn passenger cars also but am clueless what versions they are to ask dealers if also available in O-gaute.
@@Mike-r2b In the past several years Lionel's made some Strasburg trains in O Gauge, you can probably find examples on-line without too much trouble. Try searching "Lionel Strasburg trains" for starters and see what you get. One thing I can tell you though is they're not inexpensive so be prepared. If it's Pre-War style Strasburg tinplate trains in O Gauge I'm not aware of any.
@@wayneantoniazzi2706 Thanks for the reply. Train prices are always scary when you consider what the cost of living is got the average blue collar worker and I was one. Hi Sean, absolutely beautiful ! ! You did a fantastic job with your Standard Gauge Layout. I watched you building the layout. Fantastic job. Oh by the way your O Gauge Layout is just as beautiful. You have great talents for building Train Layouts. Thank you for all that you do for the Model Train Hobby. Maybe some day you can make a road trip to see mine. I finally got to a point to a train. It's four Lionel Locomotives pulling 36 or so rolling stock. Afain fantastic job on your layout. I also liked you put the period correct music with it. Happy Railroading.
Hi Sean and Happy Independence Day ! This layout is stunning. I really love the Trolleys. The engines are beautiful and the Buildings are the best! The nicest perfect side Large scale layout ever. Thanks for sharing! Now you need an S Scale layout brother!
Just beautiful! Tin Plate/Standard Gauge is just so classy! Add that to your attention to detail along with your passion and it becomes no surprise that this is the end result.
Very nice elevated structures. Many others in video’s are just tracks resting on plastic trusses or wood blocks. Your’s are well supported and look substantial. The time frame setting is quite consistent. Even the toy cars & structures are period looking. NICE!😊
Great, Fantastic, Superb!!! - I just wish Lionel had something to do with sponsoring and supporting you in showcasing their trains in this trip down memory lane, even though our memories fudge things to make what we remember better than what it was. Your showcase video embodies what we want to think what it was like - and that's the cool thing about model trains (we can represent things how we want to - to show things off in a fantastic way). - Very cool !!!! - Thank You !!! - Maybe Lionel will come by and pay you to help sell their trains. - They'd be smart if they did.
A nice way to wrap it up for The Standard of the World layout, Sean. Classic train sets and classic swing! Great combo. Your skill to actualize this dream layout has been nothing short of fantastic. Thanks for taking us along for the ride!
Sean. I loved watching this content. I operated my great grandfather’s standard gauge model 380 and passenger cars for the first time since the 1950s this season. These were purchased at Nicholas Smith nearly 100 years ago. This fun sparked interest in establishing a standard gauge layout. If you can spare the time I’d love to talk with you about sourcing track, power supplies, and and some modern locomotives and rolling stock. Do you host open house events, or could you steer me in the right direction for standard gauge communities/groups? I live in southern New Jersey, just a few miles south of center city Philadelphia. Many thanks, Patrick Chestnut
I really enjoyed this series, thank you for taking us along on the journey. It brought back a lot of faint memories. By grandparents had a standard gauge layout in a room of their house when I was very young. Unfortunately, it was lost during a house fire and never replaced. Thank you again!
Whoa...Amazing Layout Sean. I just live it. Such a treat. You put a lot of thought and planning into that.. you did a phenomenal job. You got to put that in a train magazine
Sean, so nice, it truly shows your OUTSTANDING skill at building train layouts, in all phases. To repeat truly outstanding. Thanks for sharing, your great build concepts. The video is without words too!
HI Sean, So incredible, so inspiring. I have watched this entire build. It is amazing to me what you have accomplished in a short period of time. I can appreciate all your hard work and new ideas! Enjoy my friend! Joe Gozzo
🎉 What a layout and what a collection! Exceptional job Sean. I'll be watching this video many times. Do you think you'll ever be a part of the Thanksgiving time open house tours assuming your in that area? I have a house in Delaware and get back there from time to time. I hope to be there this fall for that tour.
Such an amazing layout, all the time you spent on the details really paid off. Everything looks like it all belongs together and its all from the same time period. Well done Sean!! Looks awesome in daylight then goes to a whole new level when "nighttime" hits and the layout lights up. Breathtaking!
This has got to be one of the most colorful train layout's I have seen. The nostalgic look of the old pre-war and colors are Classic. The big look of standard gauge and detail is awesome. Very impressive. ? where did you get the music, is that a Lionel Vol,# ?
HA, those are actually from Records converted to digital. It was a music set by Columbia House called Swing Era. All except Choo- Choo Boogie which was a modern redo.
Hi Sean - what size did the layout end up being? Also did you ever make a video looking at all the different types of Standard Gauge Tinplate 200 500 series etc. Beautiful layout maybe one day I can build one of my own
Can MTH still reproduce the Lionel Tinplate trains or are there legal problems with doing that now. If MTH can't reproduce them, it would be great if Lionel would do it. I love the Lionel Orange and Blue paint scheme; I never got the chance to purchase any of the tinplate ones due to budget constraints now I am sorry that I didn't find a way to fit them into my budget.
MTH owns all the tooling, but because the License agreement expired, they can't use any Lionel nameplates on the tinplate stuff. So, they can still make it but only with MTH logos and names, just like they did in the beginning before they had the license agreement. Although, if they do it will be very few items I suspect. They are releasing the Monorail set first which was just announced.
@@seanstraindepot thanks, I really love the orange and blue paint scheme as well as the tinplate Blue Comet, I missed my chance when the tin plate orange and blue set came out in October gauge and now with the high prices I need to limit my to one or two items per catalog release
Keep the future videos coming
