Yes but if the conductor did the same thing as Lully, he’d have access to modern medicine and first aid to save his foot, which was unavailable to Lully back then. He died because his wound became infected, leading to gangrene and sepsis. The fact that bacteria cause disease was unheard of back then, so infection control was hit and miss, which meant doctors who tried to treat Lully probably wouldn’t have had the best hygiene as they would’ve gone from patient to patient without washing hands or sterilising any equipment. If Lully has his foot amputated, chances are that he would’ve gone the same way anyway, not to mention the lack of antiseptics.
