I find the Surtur interactions with ongoing cards to be VERY WEIRD. If they're working as intended, I think there are potentially more synergies than were initially expected. This card is crazy powerful regardless, just be careful with the Typhoid Mary plays :)
yeah im 99.9% sure mary interaction is intended. the stack is ongoing card text -> played card -> location -> surtur checks. seems pretty consistent with other card interactions that say “after you play blah blah”

+3 has always been absurd. Give that to a 3/5 card and it's just game over. Big dumb idiot decks have been a thing before Surtur. So this just pushed it over to absurdity levels.
@Redazzer200 Ajax Evo has been my go-to so far. Surtur loses his bite when Scorpion, Hazmat, and USAgent chunk all those 10 power cards. Then Abom and Ajax go over the top. Red Guardian laughs at Cosmo. Really good deck.

A base 3-5 that increases 3 powers with a pretty easy condition (since Second Dinner add or buff a lot of 10+ powers cards recently). Who would have thought? Btw Wolfbane is still a 3-1.

The ongoing interaction is logical. The effect is on going. Meaning that at no point is the card ever 10 power because as soon as it reveals it’s already afflicted.
Exaclty. That has been the case with any down powered card played when you have Luke Cage. It's quite logical. Its called ongoing. Not affecting the card would be weird.
Agent venom and surtur are clearly overtuned. I want to get both cards but the future nerfs are so obvious, it feels like I'll be wasting my VERY limited resources. Being on the other end of players who have these cards is demoralizing, and by the time I do obtain the cards it will be a shell of the original versions. Feels terrible.

Affliction has been a decent counter to this deck for me. A well timed scorpion and Cassandra wrecks all their 10s so no free skaar and no surtur growing If they still managed to get some 10 drops in play, hazmat on 5 to at least stop the free Skaar
I dont see the ongoing interactions as weird. Thats how i imagined Surtur working. He looks at the cards played after they resolve themselves in the battlefield. That applies to after they either get a buff from an incoming ongoing or on reveal card. But also negative power hits as well. Essentially working like a Dracula resolve.. but after the end of each turn not just at the end of the game.
That last one makes total sense, if black panther boosts surtur, then if you play a 10+ card that gets it's power reduced by location or typhoid, then it makes sense that it woulldn't make surtur bigger
Agent Venom can get up to 2/16 or above in an ideal scenario….so this seems in line with the last season pass. You just see all the numbers on card instead of spread across the board.

This deck is a monster. I could see Surtur going to +2 to rein in the free Skaars. The crazy part is you could make this deck work without Surtur. Not as efficiently, but it would probably still work.
Ongoing cards do tell towards him, also if you hulk buster and it makes a card a 10, i play deadpool,nico,hulkBust,killmonger,death,knull,agony,venom also triggers the affect But if you didnt know Panther triggers the affect Everything that you throw and ends up being 10 triggers Even have a bounce deck with him using move Unlimited combos yet i only see you guys stuck on a skar deck , yes he is made for this card. But i can promise you there is stronger decks

Surtur can actually buff himself. I had a buffed Surtur and chimichanga in hand. I played them down and the chimichanga buffed surter to 3/11 which in turn buffed himself to 3/14

Surtur is from Thor Ragnarok. He destroys Asgard and "kills" Hella. Thor beat him at start of movie but he was in a weekend state. Once he combined with the Eternal Flame he regained his god level power and size.
we'll have to see but i still think Surtur is just ok. his threat is present but i think it's still just a solid 3 star card. good stats, good effect, good ability. The decks so far around him tho just aren't that good or crazy if you will. Also casanova just single handedly rips it apart. Even a bounce silver sable can do damage.
surtur was supposed to get +3 after attuma play but typhoid mary ongoing gave -1 to attuma making him 9 so surtur didn't get the +3 boost losing the left location. if opponent had played 4 power on mid, they would have won.
This is a classic bait switch season pass card. They are gonna wait till they get as many buys of season pass as possible, and they’re gonna Nerf the crap out of it. My guess is a 3/3 with +2 when it’s said and done

This card is definitely too strong. It fits the character which is cool but it definitely isn't balanced. If it wasn't for the retreat option in Snap I think this card and surrounding cast would dominate. I started to play Surtur and found success but people retreating and bots not liking big power isn't a great way to climb in Snap. I'm interested in how Surtur could do in Big Boy Thanos decks or in other shells. Thanks for the Review as always Alex.

Now we are just waiting for the next OTA so they can nerf all the cards around Surtur but not Surtur itself because he is the season pass card and money is everything in this game. That is why I left the game last month and I do not think I will ever go back
Yeah great card but if you guys wanna win against surtur play affliction. UsAgent, Scorpion, Silver Sable and Casandra are some of the best, climbing fast towards infinite mostly playing against this.

This proves me that average people like Big dumb numbers over creative deck design. Fair enough, no criticism. But, Agent Venom has been dominating the meta for a hole Month. Giving +4 up to potentially 4 cards, thats 16 at worst and massive with Iron Man or Mysterio. Surtur is plus 12 with Skaar. Wich, dont get me wrong, is very powerful. But i didnt saw that overreaction with Agent Venom that in general, im seing with Surtur. Also remember this week is a bot farming simulation wich inflate the stats. I played a surter skaar deck within a scream shell and loved it kingpin, zabu, scream, surtur, magik, crossbones, cull obsidan, gwenpool, shang chi, areo, Magneto, and skarr You spred the deck wide and it feels pretty good it dosnt feel bad if you wiff on the scream because shes an extra not the main focas but i often would get 2 hits on her and get her pretty high if you spread your cards and they shang early you can just dominate them

Apparently surtur has to be resolved first in order for it to work. Weird indeed.
Typhoid Mary can be seen as a soft protection for other 10 power cards in her lane. If a Shang is played, Mary will eat the hit solo. 😊

Within one hour I got to 80 from 70 with surtur, I am almost back to infinite within an hour and a half of playing. He is insane

Trying to invest on the Surtur deck, and want to know whos a better investment in general (to purchase with tokens as a F2P): Skaar or Alioth

Yeah great card but if you guys wanna win against surtur play affliction. UsAgent, Scorpion, Silver Sable and Casandra are some of the best, climbing fast towards infinite mostly playing against this.

@@FatherofSergeThis exactly. The only season pass card that was ever nerfed while it was on sale was Elsa Bloodstone. Not Agent Venom, not Ms Marvel, and not Zabu or Silver Surfer (though those were both before regular OTAs, so they only really had the patch to work with).

It has to do with when Surtur does the power check. It seems it’s at the end of your played cards.

This proves me that average people like Big dumb numbers over creative deck design. Fair enough, no criticism.
But, Agent Venom has been dominating the meta for a hole Month. Giving +4 up to potentially 4 cards, thats 16 at worst and massive with Iron Man or Mysterio. Surtur is plus 12 with Skaar. Wich, dont get me wrong, is very powerful. But i didnt saw that overreaction with Agent Venom that in general, im seing with Surtur. Also remember this week is a bot farming simulation wich inflate the stats. I agree that +3 is historically too strong in this Game and Nerf candidate, but careful with the overhype
I played a surter skaar deck within a scream shell and loved it kingpin, zabu, scream, surtur, magik, crossbones, cull obsidan, gwenpool, shang chi, areo, Magneto, and skarr
You spred the deck wide and it feels pretty good it dosnt feel bad if you wiff on the scream because shes an extra not the main focas but i often would get 2 hits on her and get her pretty high if you spread your cards and they shang early you can just dominate them

What I hate about cards like this is if you draw it late, just go and retreat, decks dead. Can't stand these miracle draw designs.
That's because they do not design decks that can have multiple win conditions... Good decks are consistent and have multiple win conditions.
Give it a few weeks for SD to make their money on the pass and they'll nerf it to a +1 or +2 lol
