- Hey all!
I love "Whatever Happened To... Robot Jones?", it's like one of my favorite shows!
Anyway, I decided to make a voice comparison video because I think it's cool to hear all of Robot's different voices from the text-to-speech one to the human voice actor and what's even cooler, is the Spanish and Portuguese dubs (the Portuguese is my favorite out of the two)!
This was inspired by another video I saw on RUclips once where someone basically had the same idea but it is sadly no longer on RUclips so I thought I'd remake it!

Unpopular Opinion: Bobby Block > Text to Speech voice
RJ is an incredibly expressive character. A human voice can match those expressions in a way that Word 98 just can’t do. It’s just off putting to see RJ make overly exaggerated facial expressions, only to speak in a monotone voice. TTS is more robotic, but it’s too much so; it’s not expressive enough. RJ is a robot, yes, but let’s not forget that he’s also a cartoon character.
And it’s not like Bobby’s voice _doesn’t_ sound robotic; the filter they put on his voice really adds a lot to the effect , especially considering a lot of other robot characters don’t bother to add one (ie, Bender from Futurama)
TTS also makes him sound a bit too old imo. Maybe if he was in high school it’d be fine, but he’s in middle school. Most of his friends don’t have adult voices yet, so why would he?

rj definitely still was expressive w/ the tts voice, but as an actual voice actor, bobby really brought more to the table in terms of expressiveness for the character!
a lot of peeps complained when they changed the voice, saying he didn't sound robotic anymore, but he STILL did sound like a robot. bobby block is def my fav rj voice, but i do respect, and enjoyed, the creators trying something different w/ using a computer generated voice!
personally, i didn't think his voice was THAT older, but i get what you're saying though. bobby's voice def made him 'fit in' more with his human peers.
I still like the text to speech voice more!
I think both voices have their ups and downs, Bobby was more expressive but imo he sounded way too young, especially compared to the rest of the cast. On the other hand, the TTS voice was suitably robotic and I liked the cadence and pitch of it, but it lacked the emotion necessary to match Robot's personality, especially given how much more expressive they made RJ's animations for season 2.

Curious fact, spanish latin dub voice actor is the same for both seasons, they decided just to change the voice tone

@@hksephora1338 You’re welcome. Here in LA, is just 1 season, not 2, so is right to say that they changed the tone for the middle of the season.
Definitely the text to speech voice.
I watched this back when it first aired and even then, I preferred the original voice. The Season 2 voice sounded way too human for a robot.
