NOT OUR BEST WEEK IN THAILAND, IS KOH TAO REALLY PARADISE? (Episode 21)

- We love sharing happy positive moments as we travel Thailand as a family BUT the reality os there are always highs and lows.
We travelled to Koh Tao Island all excited to explore the picture perfect paradise and were met with a week of storms. As the storms cleared up were excited to go on an adventure to koh nang yuan and john suwan viewpoint BUT both adventures has pretty scary and dangerous moments. We want to make sure we always do our best to share our full authentic story, even if if we don’t have the best week. Life is full of highs and lows and we think a big part of our job as parents is teaching our children to be look for beauty, look for the positives and if things are just too tough, learning to dance in the storms.
Thank you for joining our journey

@Amy Cooper Aww Amy! That is so lovely, thank you, behind the scenes we're having a few passport and visa issues, our cameras have been breaking and other daft but challenging things, so this means so much. I heard an encouraging quote though, “if you feel like things are working against you, just remember a plane takes off into the wind” - will share more soon :) xxx

It looks so dangerous when seeing you tried to pick your smartphone in rock nooks and crannies such that.
Maybe you should warn viewers of the reputation Koh Tao has as to mysterious tourist deaths, after all, it is also known as "Death Island".
Maybe, but there many videos on that if they are searching up koh Tao :)We tend to put that kind of info in our website guides for if people are actually planning to go
Very cute 👫+👱👶👍
aww thank you
✋✋🙏🙏😊😊
Thank you 🥰
ถ้ามีบ้านอยู่เกาะช้าง,เกาะภูเก็ตจะให้ครอบครัวนี้มาอยู่สักเดือนbutบ้านเราแค่บ้านเล็กๆหลังนึง

Hiya, we are coming to Thailand later this year. I wondered if we could meet up? We have just started and dropped everything. I’m trying to reach out to cool creators doing the same thing so we can learn.
That is super cool! I don't know where we'll be but if we're around always love to meet up with people!! Thank you so much for asking ... and for being so darn lovely!
How long are you planning to be in Thailand?😻
Hey, we've already stayed way longer than first planned, so honestly not sure - it's just too beautiful to leave ❤️
Hello what hotel did you stay at on koh tao please
We stayed in a few whilst in Koh Tao, 2 budget ones, but not sure I would recommend them (unless you're on a super small budget) The one in the video is 'Asawa Koh Tao Dive Resort' and i would definitely recommend it, lovely family who run it, on the beach, great dive pool.
Are you English family??
Paradise or Death Island.? Don't take chance.
haha, I cant say this wasnt on our mind half the time lol - But it was gorgeous
@@TheBackpackingFamily Bear in mind there's so many countries in these region that are gorgeous too if not better. Anyway i wish your family good luck holidaying in Thailand.
i wouldnt go there i heard about deaths there horrible very dangerous
i heard this too, but it really is quite lovely 💕
any murders?
Not that I came across
Death island
I heard that! eeek
koh tao..murder island.
Yeah pretty scary place
No, Koh Tao is not paradise. The island is controlled by a small number of very powerful mafia families, who are largely immune from the law and dictate who can or cannot do business on the island. There is also a well documented history of murders on the island, mostly unsolved (or some myamyar workers took the fall). Beneath the veneer of sandy beaches etc there is a real dark side to the island.
Also, despite what all the overly-exicitable GenZ vloggers post on RUclips (WE FOUND PARADISE!!!, THAILAND BEST KEPT SECRET!!, THAILANDS HIDDEN ISLAND!! THE BEST STREETFOOD EVER!!! etc) , Thailand is not paradise. It never was, although arguably it was pretty amazing last century. And to be fair there are still some fabulous spots if you get off the tourist route and make an effort. But Thailand is a developing country with some serious issues, like corruption, overtourism, a rubbish problem etc. There is still nuch to enjoy, but it's certainly not paradise, if such a ideal even exiists anywhere in the world any more.
It's nice when vloggers present a balanced viewpoint and do some research, instead of clickbait, over sensationalised video titles, and well edited fantasy content that omits anything realistic.
Yeah, theres a pretty crazy back story to Koh tao. There's some fascinating videos on whats been happening there. I hear what you're saying about how Thailand has changed too, though Koh Tao is much more on the tourist trail, it is still much quieter since the pandemic, it's been nice to see places closer to their former glory. We loved exploring the north a few months back, after many years of exploring Thailand it was lovely to see it with almost not tourists. - It would be fun to make a video on the background of koh tao, but there's already so many great videos on that, this week was more about sharing that travel isn't always easy breezy paradise ;-)
@@TheBackpackingFamily Suzanne Buchanan who used to be the editor of Samui Times, but had to flee the country because her life was in danger for reporting on the Kao Tao murders, has just released a book called The Curse Of The Turtle, if you are seriously wanting to know more.
Be careful of what content you vlog, especially about Thailand's not-so-paradise aspects. They have strong defamation laws and Les Majeste, so vlogging about murders, corruption, the royal family etc is best done outside of Thailand.
A friend and I stayed overnight on Koh Nang Yuan back in 2010. There was just a handful of tourists, and they left by dinner time. When the staff left the island for the night, we were the only two ppl on the island. In hindsight that was a little dangerous possibly.
We covered pretty well every inhabited (and several uninhabited) island in Thailand in the last 8 months, except Kao Tao. Went diving out there but by boat from Samui. I don't like the island because of who owns it, and it's certainly not the nicest island in Thailand, nor does it have the best beaches, nor does it have the best snorkeling
@@stangoodvibes Which island on the way from malaysia to bangkok can you recommend for snorkeling?
@@hahahahahaha9306 ok so out of ALL the islands in Thailand (I did them all last year) the snorkeling hilights are - those islands off Koh Lanta (you can see for miles) and Similan and Surin off Khao Lak. Although a special mention goes to Shark Point off Phi Phi just because there isn't much there BUT some sizeable reef sharks that cruise around near you in only about 3m of water and it's only about 50-100m off Phi Phi. If you go to Similan go with Love Andaman - they are fun guys and have the best pre and post dive food. And as always when you go out on a fast boat in Thailand - get some cheap ear plugs (7-eleven) and try and nab the very back seat in the boat. It can get bumpy and the back of the boat is the least spine-jarring spot. Enjoy!!!
I❤u....ครอบครัวนี้น่ารักมากๆขอบคุณที่รักประเทศไทยนะคะ ขอให้เที่ยวอย่างมีความสุขนะคะ🥰🥰🙏❤
