  • In this video we work on a fancy way of changing grip on the staff, which is also very useful for spear and other long weapons. The key is to find and know the center of balance and move consistently enough to position the staff the correct way every single time. Once you get used to the feeling of the staff and get over your nerves, you will find this is actually a pretty easy technique.
    Have Fun!

In all honesty, I don't know enough about common law enforcement situations and what is considered an acceptable amount of force in response to situations. The closest I could do is to cover some sword and shield techniques that might be applicable to using a stick and riot shield. However, Gracie BJJ already has a very in depth program that works very well for law enforcement called GST (Gracie Survival Tactics).

Okay, so trying it first with a 6'6" spear was not my genius idea of the day. Don't worry, it's only a bruise... Tapered 6' staff was definitely a better practice tool. Get that heavier end going and that end has a higher moment of inertia than a balanced staff and wants to keep going around.
