      Thanks for doing this. I asked if you could possibly do this a couple of months ago, you responded saying you were going to look into it. It's awesome to see you did in fact look into it. My speed record is 80 kmh, but that's on east coast us mountain. Not steep enough to get to 100. If I might recommend a video idea, you and the boys should do a competition for 1 leg skiing on your non dominant leg. God Bless you.

    Seeing these stats for the gnarliest runs that you take would help viewers understand the landscape better since the camera always appears to make it seem less steep than it actually is.

      Good idea! POV cameras never show slope angle. The only way to experience how scary terrain is by standing on top of it in real life!

It's hard to know if things are actually improving when I'm focusing so much on learning, streamlining my process and pushing out content consistently. Always appreciate and am super open to all the positive and negative/constructive feedback. It's been a wild ride trying to pay rent/eat with video making over the winter :).

    I've been using the Insta remote for a couple years now... I'm a competitive paddler (OC1) and the remote is great for tracking speed while surfing ocean waves and distance covered. I use this in combination with my Garmin watch and both give you great information to assist with training. I recently took up skiing and of course it has exceptional utility here too, as you have shown here (awesome footage it is too). I was recently up in Sun Peaks, and its fun to see the data on how far you've travelled, the course you're on and of course how fast you're going. I think your point here though is very important, because with speed it can become a bit of an obsession (I'm as guilty as anyone else), and sacrificing control and regard for your safety and others on the run as well.
    So that's the only caveat I would have, is simply to agree with you that maintaining form, control and safety should always come first - not breaking speed records! As far as your videos go, I am always interested to see your tracked courses through the trees and how quickly you're moving down what look to me like double blacks through those tree runs... the remote is a great little addition to your video kit and I look forward to seeing how you use it - cheers mate!

    • @riseandalpine
      @riseandalpine  3 месяца назад +2

      Glad to hear you like the remote still as a long term user. Super sick you're a competitive paddler, riding ocean waves seems super fun!
      I'm equally excited to see how fast I hum through the trees, but I'm going to have to wait for some softer conditions LOL. The day I filmed this could not have been icier!

    Cool showcase of the gps features! Weird how the 85km/h clip looks similar to the 65km/h clips. I have a garmin watch that tracks all the stats you would think and am always skeptical of the speed. Always take it all with a grain of salt!
    Would be cool to see how accurate it is compared to a radar gun. I’m sure the Whistler race team has one you could use. 🙌🏼

    That's a mighty fine setup there, very clear and very stable with lots of angles. I like all those stats especially speed slope and elevation but sometimes certain runs and or views just need to be appreciated as they are in all their glory too. I bet it would be interesting to know how many g's you're pulling in a nice GS style carve on a good groomer, not that you have carving skis mind you but still interesting I think. For me anything POV that can show or indicate slope and speed especially thru trees bumps or deep pow is gold. I like getting those butterflies like you do when standing at the top of a drop in point/cornice/that crazy freaking scary rope climb at Kicking Horse haha. Man that's scary as chit and when a viewer can get a sense of it it's almost as good as being there for some of us stuck in the flat lands with no snow and no views it sucks. Some call it paradise here but I think they're crazy as I'd much rather be skiing and in the mountains. Maybe they're right, I'm just weird. F them I'm going skiing! Hahaha

    The speed /slope and elevation is cool. The rest is feel like doesn’t fully apply to skiing or is just clutters the screen but it would be cool to always have the elevation come on when you go to these different mountains

    • @riseandalpine

    Less is more. I'm going to speak for most of us that watch you regularly, we are here for you, your stoke(attitude) and your adventure. Small in the corner for slope angle and all videos with skiing to show how crazy your skiing is. In trees and pow, maybe elevation to show the quality of snow and how high you have to go(maybe only sometimes). speed sometimes on the groomers would be cool, again sometimes. With all of them at the same times, it looks somewhere between a video game and an website with too many ads. maybe not that bad, but i would rather focus on your skiing and your adventure.

    🤔 This discount is relevant to my interests.
    Been thinking about an X3 for a while. Just seems to be easier and more set-and-forget than my GoPro because you don't actually have to point the X3 at anything specific and you still get the shot.
    I know the X4 must be coming soon, but I think POV cameras are starting to reach the point of diminishing returns, like smart phones did 5 or 6 years ago. Drones, with the DJI Mini3 Pro and Mini4 Pro are basically there too, IMHO.
    The cameras are so good now, that improvements are going to be somewhat smaller and incremental, although I'm happy to be proven wrong.

    • @riseandalpine
      @riseandalpine  3 месяца назад +1

      The X3 was a big game changer for me. Always fun watching old videos of mine with just a go pro and seeing how much cooler everything is with the X3. Traditional GoPro is also absolutely useless for social media videos.
      I agree - the point of diminishing returns is coming for 360 cameras. Go Pro as a company has been dying for a long time, ever since they made stabilization in the hero 8, nothing has really changed. I do appreciate how insta360 is constantly trying to iterate cameras/features/mounts regardless of how impractical they might be to most users.
      The X3 has an edge over the X2 because you can film in 5.4k in 360. When you export 360 footage it always downgrades the quality so 5.4k will look just a bit closer to something in 4k. Filming in 4k will look like 1080p when exported. The X4 might be on its way, but I do agree, for most users, the X2 & X3 much like most iphones are already great options and going with whatever is most affordable is probably the play.
      I'd be happy to be proven wrong too, better POV filming setups (especially ones that don't hinder skiing experience) are always welcome!
