  • In this video, my friend Jeremy and I visit the main Saint Petersburg Botanical Garden, officially known as the Russian Academy of Sciences Vladimir Komarov Botanical Institute's Botanical Garden of Peter the Great.
The garden was founded by Peter I in 1714 as a herb garden in order to grow medicinal plants and re-established as a botanical institution under the name Imperial Botanical Garden in 1823, with assistance from John Goldie. Ivan Lepyokhin was in charge of the botanical garden from 1774 until 1802. Beginning in 1855.

What an awesome place! Thanks to Peter for bringing back specimens from all over the world. Have you ever been to the Kunstkammer? That would be another cool video. 👍👍

I have heard of Kunstkammer. They have a couple of the display halls closed for refurbishment for a couple of months. It would be a good idea to go there. However, I will need to get permission to film inside as they are quite strict about filming and photography. I will definitely look into it thought and see if I can get the correct permission to film inside.

Thank you for posting your tour video! John Goldie is my 5th great grandfather. I would love to visit the garden someday, and try to image what it was like for him to go to Russia in 1823. I wonder if he actually met Czar Nicholas?!

Definitely do come to see the gardens. They are amazing. Especially more amazing for you if you can find out if they met.
