A special place well worth a trip in the warm months of the year

Yeah, it's disturbing to see those rusty locomotives but being pragmatic I look at it this way, they're being preserved. Rest assured they'll be restored eventually as the budget money becomes available. The ultimate goal as I understand it is to get them all under cover eventually.
Restored to operation? No. That's not the museum's mission, preservation is.
Still, it's nice to dream about!
Oh, and that GG1? That's "Old Rivets," the first GG1! It was design consultant Raymond Loewy who suggested welded and not riveted exteriors on the GG1's for a smoother profile.

@wayneantoniazzi2706 agreed. Brings to mind that big boy steam engine, new paint job, but sitting outside at steamtown, exposed to the elements. At the very least it should have a canopy overhead which, in my opinion, would be exceedingly better protection to the no protection it now has. Gary

@@TheTrainboard You should donate to the Friends of the Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania, as they are raising funds to cosmetically restore those PRR steam locomotives.

I sure hope the steam locomotives main rods still exist and can be installed to actually look correct.

great video guy.. As a kid (I'm 61 now) going to steam town usa in VT, was too much fun,, walking around the collection. I've always wanted to know if everything from VT went to Scranton. I've tried looking up certain engines , cars, etc with no luck. wouldn't take someone two seconds to say, "this one came from VT" then i'd know, lol. nah, too simple

Pretty much the entire steamtown usa vt collection was moved to mostly the strasburg, pa museum and some to the steamtown, pa collection. You have your answer. Gary

I like your intro w/the Lionel steam engine chugging by!😂
Sadly I think that M1 was probably worn out when the PRR retired it.
Weren't they supposed to be raising funds for a roundhouse?

@@b3j8 According to one of the folks at the RRMofPA, funding is secured for the roundhouse. It is expected that the project should start sometime this year.
