    one trick i saw on another video is to use electric tape around the edge of the silver rims so when you put the caps on no silver will be showing. Also, you don't have remove the center circle. Thanks for showing how it looks. I just got the YLR and will do this very soon!

  • @Wallyjj
    @Wallyjj 2 года назад +6

    I have had plastidip on my jeep wheels for years and it holds up very well. My suggestion on tape is that you need to remove it within a few minutes of the last coat while it is still drying. Much better experience than letting it dry first. To be honest, if there was a little gap between the center and the rest you probably could have just sprayed it all and then peeled away the center part after it dried without using any tape.

      @@iowatesla Yea its funny you mentioned that. On the painting video, I noticed the Tesla symbol indent, so I thought maybe I can cut out the symbol and paint it, but I saw your video of the winter stress test, and thought your vinyl sticker idea would make it a lot easier and cleaner looking than trying to cut out the symbol. I'm sure spray paint would be much more durable. I wasn't 100% committed. With this, I can always peal it off. The roads are pretty harsh in Iowa in the Winter. I'll see how they hold up.

    • @BixbyConsequence
      @BixbyConsequence 2 года назад

      I painted the wheels of a previous car of mine and there was no visible damage after 3 years. The stuff is reasonably durable though ymmv if you drive on gravel roads, etc... It is removable though so if it gets beat up after a few years you can easily completely redo them; maybe try a different color, pearls, etc...

    • @6ettinold
      @6ettinold 2 года назад +1

      About 10-15 minutes between coats. Best advice I was given was to stick the can in a bucket of hot water between coats. Dry the can each time before shaking and spraying. Does seem to give more even coats. I've used the Rustoluem stuff and Plastidip and don't think there is any difference tbh. We get a brand called Full Dip here in the UK and I prefer it to both. Seems to spray on far more evenly. I've made less mistakes with it than I have with Plastidip.

      The hub caps are just plastic. I don't see why not. You may need to do some prep on the caps and hit them with some sand paper to get the paint to stick. The Plasti-dip isn't paint so it kinda sticks to itself and creates a shell that you can peal off if you want. Thanks for watching.
