  • I went for a walk in the National Mall in Washington DC and this is what I saw.
    In this video:
    - The Dwight D Eisenhower Memorial
    - The National Museum of the American Indian
    - The United States Botanic Garden
    - Bartholdi Fountain (Fountain of Water and Light) and Gardens
    - The Ulysses S. Grant Memorial
    - The Garfield Monument
    - The US Capitol and the Capitol Reflecting Pool
    - The Peace Monument
    - The Smithsonian National Air and Space Museum
    - The National Gallery of Art
    - The National Building Museum
    - The Smithsonian Castle
    - The Hirshhorn Museum and Sculpture Gardens
    - The National Museum of Natural History
    - The National Museum of Asian Art
    - The National Museum of American History
    - The National Museum Of African American History and Culture
    - The Washington Monument
    - The World War II Memorial and the water fountains
    - The Lincoln Memorial and the reflecting pool
    - The Three Servicemen Statue in the Vietnam Veterans Memorial
    - The Korean War Memorial
    - The DC War Memorial
This was a LONG, LONG walk! Unfortunately, I didn't manage to get to the Martin Luther King Memorial, the Thomas Jefferson Memorial and the Franklin Delano Roosevelt Memorial. Anyway, I hope to be able to revisit Washington DC and explore these and more sites.

This was my first trip to DC and I have to say I really liked the Mall. I want to revisit once they are done with the reconstruction of the National Air and Space Museum.

I thought there would be a lot more people out and about on the streets of the capital...

There were a lot of people but the area is huge. I believe, the National Mall is more than 3 km long. Also, you'll find only memorials and musea plus the Capitol in the area but no shops or restaurants except for a few places.
