I visited DC and saw 7 museums in 48 hours. I loved, loved, loved the National Gallery of Art. It is a collection of world-class art that can rival any museum in the world. The Newseum is an amazing place too, for anyone interested in media and journalism. It is not free, like many other DC museums, but it is worth the price of admission. Madame Tussauds wax museum is an interesting place to visit as well. It's not free, but it has wax figures of all of the presidents plus various contemporary celebrities.
On the 2 days we went to visit the Natural History museum (on a busy weekend in early April) We got in much faster on the Mall side the first morning than the street side on the second day. The first day we left for food around 2pm and the line was so long to get back in we decided to go to the art museum after lunch. The second day we ate a more expensive bland lunch in the cafe inside, but didnt care because it gave us lots of extra time to see the museum instead.
I love the Postal Museum! The Railroad post office exhibit was always my favorite as a kid. Although as a little kid growing up in the DC metro area, i was always just about as excited about riding the metro into dc as i was about visiting one of my favorite museums.
I have been binge watching your vids. I am taking my family sadly for only 2 days (part of a bigger road trip) but I have been able to narrow down what fits us and our time. Thank you so much for these videos. They really are priceless!
I live in NOVA and I LOVE the udvar hazy center (the air & space Museum near Dulles airport). It is SO much better than the one in DC. It's rarely crowded and has a TON of really important planes (a space shuttle, Enola gay, and an Air France Concorde) and a lot of things for children.
Excellent vid! YOU MADE MY DAY WHEN YOU MENTIONED DOCENT LED TOURS! I've been t the National Air and Space museum for over 35 years! One more thing to add. If you are able to come to D.C. over the winter DO IT! very low visitation compared to Cherry Blossom/Summer seasons.
thank you for this video, It is very helpful and I am going to Washington DC next week, last time I just made an not such a good visit plan and I got so tired. But this time I will try to stay on track.
Has the Natural History Museum ever had an elevator down since 2018? I got a picture of me inside all 8 elevators at the Natural History Museum because I love elevators!!
Thank you I am planning a trip to DC in May (next month) right now I am trying to figure out the Amtrak, leaving from Aberdeen to DC. I’m a rookie what can I say. 🙈🤷🏻♀️
The link for the Smithsonian App isn't working or is no longer valid. Can you update this one please? All I could find was a Smithsonian App for the Smithsonian TV station. Thanks.
Updated app video: ruclips.net/video/WlyLlA4LClI/видео.html Smithsonian app no longer exists as you can simply use the Smithsonian website in a mobile browser instead.
I have a question for you. which museum do you do the tours at? If you do the tours at the Smithsonian meusem, have you ever given a tour to the Heratege middle school 8th graders?
The Bible Museum was better than I thought that it was going to be. It had some really interesting stuff in it. It is not free but Groupon has a discount.
The African American Museum has been experimenting with different ticketing systems. No one is quite sure what they will do after they re-open post pandemic. It's best to confirm on their website before your trip. The Hall of Fossils re-opened in 2019.
@@TripHacksDC thanks for your reply. I missed the hall of fossils twice. Once in 2014 and in 2018. On both occasions I was in DC for just one day. I still would like to make a week long city trip to your nations capital.
Where are all those bones and skulls of the giants that lived on earth? You'd think the Smithsonian would have them on display somewhere, otherwise, why would they have collected them all?

I always say if you're going to pay for only 1 museum, the Newseum should be it.
That's efficiency! 😁
Museum fatigue is a real thing. I have said similar things to our viewers too. But people don't believe you until they get it :)
Absolutely. Once you've experienced it you never forget.
Wolters World I cannot wait for your D.C. videos! I love your RUclips channel!
We will be out there this summer. Going to go on a personal tour with Trip Hacks DC. Excited for it.
Unless you're a museum and history buff like me.

That idea of starting at the back of the museum upon opening is genius!

Udvar Hazy is a great museum but a little tricky to get to. I will feature it in a future video!
A Smithsonian-centric vacation is on my bucket list. So glad I stumbled on your channel--I subscribed right away!

Definitely. The slow winter season is great for seeing the museums.
I live near Dulles airport (IAD) and love the Udvar Hazy center and Air and space museum in DC, the natural history is also pretty cool.
Udvar Hazy is pretty amazing.
My sister and I are planning a trip to D.C. in October so your videos will be really helpful.

Thank you! Send me a message through the Trip Hacks DC website when you have your dates settled so we can get you set up on a tour.
I tried to tap on the links to the museum apps and none of them exist anymore. Are there new ones?
mine is the Smithsonian Air And Space Musuem
Thank you!
Hey..how about a video about handicapped access and rentals and such..didn't notice any.
Working on finding someone to collaborate on this. It's an important topic and I want to make sure I get all the info right.
i live in virginia 1 hour from dc i really like the natural museum of natural history
Good choice
Perfect, Thanks!
No problem.
It's unfortunate that the restaurants are scarce near the National Mall. I suppose there is a reason, like maybe, the space is taken by museums.
What app does the Smithsonian museums use? I've search my app store and can't find one.
air and space museum the one by the airport
I’m going tomorrow for a school trip
Have fun!

Is the Natural History Museum always going to be closed on Mondays & Tuesdays?
Until further notice, yes. Long term, I sure hope not.
I have a question for you. which museum do you do the tours at? If you do the tours at the Smithsonian meusem, have you ever given a tour to the Heratege middle school 8th graders?
We don't lead any museum tours.

I’m currently in Washington DC
Nice.
The Museum of the Bible was much better than I expected.
Nice!
1. Is the situation regarding the african american museum temporary, due to increased interest since it's new?
2. Is the hall of fossils open again?

@@TripHacksDC also, how would you rate the holocaust memorial museum?
Worth a visit.
What's the best souvenirs to get from Smithonian museums?
Depends what you like? The less popular museums tend to have more unique souvenirs. The Postal Museum has cool stamps and mail stuff.
Trip Hacks DC do you have any tips or perks that military families get visiting DC?
of all the modes of transportation, which is your most favorite?
Definitely Capital Bikeshare.
Rob..could you recommend some bookstore in DC.. to buy books about public policies and american laws?
Thank you so much!!
Kramerbooks, Politics & Prose, East City Bookshop.
Thank you!!
thankss
Yep
I have been to D.C. 0:45

Bones are in the Natural History Museum.
@@TripHacksDC Giant's bones? Oh Good!
@@TripHacksDC I mean giant bones like David and GOLIATH bones. Those kinds of bones. Not from giant birds and elephants. Giant PEOPLE!
Yeah I don't think they have that.
They destroyed thousands of human giant bones ,,, so not to disprove evolution
Thank you!!
Happy to help!
