Alex: I remember that we really loved this song, and so the writing of it was very quick. The parts were quite satisfying to play, which is probably one reason why it was written so fast. Everything felt very natural and easy ... Moving Pictures was very successful. The songs were good. They connected with a bigger audience. But there was also something about the sound of that record that resonated with people. Geddy: Everybody points at Tom Sawyer as the big song on Moving Pictures, but Red Barchetta was such a pivotal song on that record. Red Barchetta came pretty easy and got us rolling. Neil: My friend [Richard Foster] had published this story in Road and Track magazine, and it was set in a dystopian future where certain cars are outlawed. He used an MGB in the story, but I used my dream car, this red Ferrari?. It was so cinematic for us, and we were learning to be concise, but also making soundtracks. It's probably one of our best in that sense being a short movie, and every section is a cinematic accompaniment to the lyrics.
He was all over the place in this song (in a good way) he was doing a lot of different stuff then I’m used to hearing from him. But you are right he was killing those cymbals AND the kick 🦵 😂🤘
Neil is all over this using some weird triplet based bass drum strokes. Phrasing like that is definitely a jazz or fusion influence and it’s challenging to replicate.
Yeah I wish I could play this…. It would take me a long time. Lmao. He is such a multifaceted percussionist. So many different styles and influences. He can plug in to any genre and just kill it
Also 🏎 a two-seat Ferrari is known as a “Barchetta” (Italian for “little boat”). His uncle had a sports car that's been banned. Why the po-po was chasing him, however their cop cars were too wide & couldn't cross thru the narrow lane his Barchetta drove down. So he lost the po-po and made it back to Unc's house just fine........ Until the next time.
@@L33Reacts In the Live Rush videos, you get the video effects seen on Tour! Their Live shows were always fun, plus included little nuggets to entertain long time fans. 🤔 The Polka opening to 'La Villa' 🤣 caught us all by surprise.
When I need a story, I want it from the GOAT Neil Peart. One of my top 5 RUSH songs. RIP 😇Neil They didn't always play this in concert, but when they did there was a seriously cool video background to go with the story.
Definatly you have to check out the live version! Their video visuals that accompany the track live help too tell the story your feeling from the music
so many favs by this band, I can't pick just one. The Garden from Clockwork Angels is one. BU2B is another. Marathon from Power Windows. Camera Eye from Moving Pictures. Roll the Bones.... Anthem.... Entre Nous..... just a few.
I haven't heard any of those haha thank you for these. I need more for my rush list 😂 even though apparently I can throw a stone and hit a great rush track 😁😂
One of my favorite RUSH songs is "Armor and Sword" and another one is "Animate" - for this "Red Barchetta" song, Neil said I think he was reading a Road and Track car magazine and came across an essay or article called "A Nice Morning Drive" by Richard Foster who I think lived in Maryland here in a town called Catonsville, Maryland - so Neil was inspired by Richard Foster's essay to come up with lyrics for this - he always enjoyed collecting miniature cars and then real cars and expensive ones!! as a hobby - one he bought was a very expensive Aston Martin Vanquish sports car!! So - there is a book maybe coming out about Neil's car collection i think called "Silver Surfers"?? I think Richard Foster was also friendly with the band and was on stage or backstage for their last tour?? Also, the color Red was always Neil's favorite color he said. Other Rush songs have the Red star from 2112 and a song called "Red Lenses" and "Red Sector A" (The NASA Space shuttle VIP seating section Neil, Geddy and Alex were VIP guests in for an early 1980's space shuttle launch - that's where the term "Red Sector A" comes from.
Favorite song? Which one? So: Fly By Night - great song, my intro to Rush by a buddy waaaay back in '85. (Everything on the Fly By Night record is pretty great except for maybe one song (everyone knows the one). If you had to pick two I'd suggest Anthem and Fly By Night) Favorite album: Caress of Steel (this one is a mood and best eaten whole) Other good ones to react to would be Freewill (from Permanent Waves), A Farewell to Kings (from album of the same name), and La Villa Strangiato (from Hemispheres). It only goes deeper from there!
Both are personal favorites of mine. La villa was the first rush song I ever heard and I fell in love immediately. Xanadu was either song 2 or 3 for me and I loved it as well 🙏
Cool reaction to the music that has been the soundtrack to my life and times, Rush. The car Neil made the"hero" of the song is based on the 1947 Ferrari 166MM Barchetta. Which is an interesting bit of Rush trivia, if anyone wants to know where the song comes from. It's fairly common for Rush fans to know that "Red Barchetta" was inspired by a short story called "A Nice Morning Drive", written by Richard Foster and publishe in the November 1973 issue of the American automotive magazine, "Road & Track". The slightly less known bit of trivia is that the car in the story is not a Ferrari at all. The car in the original story is a 1967 MGB Roadster. But as we all know, Neil absolutely LOVED Ferrari motorcars, hence the transformation. There's a little allusion to "2112" at the outro of the studio version of "Red Barchetta". Geddy & Neil do it in the syncopation. Listen for it and you'll hear it straight away. As I mentioned elsewhere, if Rush ever recorded a bad track, I've never heard it. Just sayin'
I love that album so much. I need to finish side b soon… here’s my reaction to side a "2112" by Rush -- First time reaction! (Overture & Parts I - VI) ruclips.net/video/jWL6TdOEGP4/видео.html
This is the greatest driving song ever written. Not if you bought some weak azz e-car or 4 banger. But I have a v-8 with sunroof and premium sound. Plus I live in the country with winding roads. You don't really understand how great this song is until your flying down winding country roads at 100 mph+ with the actual wind in your hair shattering windows for a mile as you roll by
There are so many Rush songs that I think must be my favorite, at least while listening to them. And I do at least have to separate between Rush's long 10+ minute rock symphonies and the shorter (for Rush) 3-6 minute songs, and again separate out the instrumental only songs. Out of the their shorter songs Red Barchetta is my favorite. Out of their longer rock symphonies my favorite is The Necromancer. And my favorite instrumental is YYZ.
This band has so many great songs that is so hard to pick one as my favorite....I guess it depends on the mood of the day....Personally, I think Cygnus X-1 book II is, musically and lyricly their best production, unmatched by any other song from any other band. It is just profound and revealing.
1st Comment on Red Barchetta Review! 😁🐰
I will pin you :)

One of the best "driving" songs of all time!

Ugh! 😆 Picking your favorite Rush song is like picking your favorite kid! 😁 Not fair! 😋🐰
Hahaha I know right?? It’s not fair. But everyone does have a secret favorite kid 😂
My favorite Rush song is usually the one currently playing.
Favorite song. I can't even name the best 5 albums
Natural Science is my favorite Rush song. 😁
Lee, definitely watch it live from the Exit Stage Left video (1981)! It's awesome!
I will! I will upload it too. Just give me a day or two! I don’t like posting the same band within a couple days. 😀
The live version from Exit Stage Left is a banger! One of my favourite Rush songs! ❤🎵
I loved it! I will check out the live version 😎
Neil’s cymbal work on this song is amazing

@@cityhonors1 la villa was my first rush song and wow what a perfect first song for me. i was hooked just from that one :D
Theres not a bad song on the entire Moving Pictures album. 😊
Perfect album
If Rush ever recorded a bad track, I have to say I have never heard it🤔🤘
I still have the album 1983
Well weathered leather. Hot metal and oil. The scented country air. Sunlight on chrome. The blur of the landscape. Every nerve aware!!!!!
You really need to do Natural Science studio version with lyrics , Fire 🔥 Fire 🔥 Fire 🔥
Love 80s Rush 🤘😊
They’re amazing bro 🤯 three dudes just destined for immortality… keep an eye out this week 👀😜
@@L33Reacts Oh 😲
Great Dong. I love it
My favorite Rush song!! A great air drum song…
Definitely some of the best drumming in any of their songs. Which is saying a lot. Great band.
Absolutely! This was fantastic all around but neil is killing it here
Live Exit Stage Left Version is a must!!!
You’ll also see the road & car move on the screen behind them on stage.
So glad you did one of my top 5 favorite songs by them!
I loved this track. So much energy and heartfelt passion. Thanks for watching Amy! 😁

I actually sing this song everyday, as I pass through THREE One Lane Bridges, since I moved

That’s so cool that red is his favorite color and he keeps adding it to the music. It gives it a… personality. I love them :)
The Shuttle launch they attended was the very first launch…Sunday April 12, 1981. I saw them one week later on Easter April 19 in New Orleans

A time where motors are outlawed and there are only “air cars” and he’s having the great experience of driving a banned traditional car.
"La Villa Strangiato" and "Xanadu" are superior tracks.
Both are personal favorites of mine. La villa was the first rush song I ever heard and I fell in love immediately. Xanadu was either song 2 or 3 for me and I loved it as well 🙏

Classic Rush is near perfection. As for newer tracks, I'm mixed. But I def have "Headlong Flight" from Clockwork Angels in my Top 10.
The car in the video is a ferrari barchetta
You really DO have to watch this one live - Probably my favorite Rush live recording ever.

I think my favorite song/performance is Freewill from the Time Machine Tour. My current (because it changes) favorite Rush album is Clockwork Angels.
The Northface makes awesome camping and hiking equipment.
They really do. And they look snazzy as hell!
Everything from RUSH is better LIVE (Prior to 2015 for best vocals… music always rocks) be well and God bless… from Texas!!

Hahah hell yeah I need to get out there and do that. My girl isn't a fan of my music usually so maybe I'll have to convert her to rush lol
The advantage to studio first is getting the lyrics,

Two earpieces or good headphones really help!
What gif or whatever is that with the farm?
It's nice to see a band performing, but, if you're after the best musical appreciation opportunity, you gotta go with the studio recording.
Red Barchetta is a Ferrari (pic in the video you were watching).
The lyrics are based on a sci-fi short story Neil liked. "A Nice Morning Drive[1]", written by Richard Foste

I have that downloaded and slotted for my next rush video 😁
Red barchetta is better live ....
Ok. lol
Most Rush songs are better live.
it's a car song. 50's Ferrari, to be exact
Yep, really good live. I'm afraid my favourite Rush song is a pretty boring choice, _La_ _Villa_ _Strangiato_ (I'm a 70s guy).
That was my first ever rush song! So it's still my favorite, even after all the bangers I've heard from them lol
So tasty…
Hell yeah bro this is such a great jam 👏
Your "vibe" is way off.
Thank you!
