Apparently, you NEED the Apple Pencil to USB-C adapter to use the Apple Pencil with your 10th-gen iPad
Couldn’t you just use a usbc to lightning cable + the lightning to lightning adapter that came with the pencil
Unfortunately not. I’ve just tried that (lighting to lightning adapter connected to 1st gen apple pen, then connected to iPad via lightning to usb c cable)and it didn’t work. I’ve just bought an iPad 10 in the UK and you don’t get the adapter free. Had to pay for the lightning female to usb c male today. Coming tomorrow. Hopefully the pen will pair and charge.
Apple is intentionally making it difficult to use the pencil for their entry level iPads. That I think is the only reason for its silliness. It makes people want to just get an iPad Pro.
Thank you so much for this video. My daughter got me the new iPad with the pencil. She didn’t realize they had the longer one you just showed with this pencil so she bought the separate one now I have two. Thank you so much for making this simple for me to plug in and get my pencil drawing.
Glad this video helped!
Thank you so much for this info! I had no idea. I just placed an order for the iPad 10 less than 15 min ago. I guess I’ll need to go purchase the adapter now. lol 🤦♀️ And, you’re right. It is a silly design. You’d think someone would have corrected that before the iPads were released to the public.
Great video. Please How do I charge the iPad pencil ?
Why do you pair the pencil to the iPad 10? Should it come up automatically every time you open up your iPad 10? I had to re-plug it in for it to come on did I pair it in correctly or something I don’t know.
When you were saying that the adapter can only be found/bought at the Apple Store and it’s not sold anywhere else like BestBuy, well, the actual Apple brand adapter can be bought at BestBuy here in Canada as well as the Apple Store. And for the same price too Can$10.
Nice! When I originally filmed this video, it was impossible to find the adapter anywhere except the Apple Store. Luckily, they're easier to find now!
Thank you so much, my mom just payed and shes going to pick it up today! Ive been waiting since Christmas. This video has helped me so much. Very much love❤.
Glad this helped!
I don't know if this is a silly question, 😅 do you need the adapter just to pair or to charge also ? Asking as I need to know if I need to buy 1 or 2 for both my kids?
Just bought apple pencil 1st gen which comes with lightning to lightning dongle for my Ipad 10 . I used my apple type C to lightning chord and it won't pair!!!! I AM SO PISSED OFF 😭😭
How come my don’t connect my Apple Pencil do you have to have a app or some kind
why don't they just make the other end a USB-C male end? does that eliminate the need for an additional wire?
Is it possible that we charge our apple pencil via our iphone and then use it on ipad 10 ?
You just saved my frustration of trying to pair the 10th gen with the 1st generation pencil without the apple adaptor 😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
Sorry to hear. Glad I could help!
hello Chase, quick question is the type C cable must be from apple? i have try used adapter the one came with it with my Iphone type c cable still not working or showing the pairing ...
Hmmm, the iPhone comes with a Lightning-to-USB-C cable, so it wouldn't work with this adapter. You would need the Apple Pencil adapter and a USB-C-to-USB-C cable.
Just buy the 1st gen Apple Pencil, the adapter comes in the box now specifically for the 10th gen iPad
Do you think you can attach the link for the adapter you bought the regular one and this one looks the same to me 😂😭 and I am so confused which one I need to order
I had the same problem but if u have the first generation it comes with a smaller adapter which u need the longer adapter due the charging port its very confusing but basically search up usb c to apple pencil
And about EarPods lightning ?
Do you have to connect every time you want to use the pencil it seems when mine disconnects the only way to reconnect is to use the cord and adapter again
Yeah, it seems that you have to reconnect it every time the battery dies unfortunately. Didn't realize that when I made this video.
@@ChaseYama not even when it dies every time it disconnects and that annoying cause you have to carry around the cord and adapter always will the 2nd gen pencil work with 10?
Apple pencil gen 3 is the only hope to get gen2 pencil in ipad 11 gen 😅
Wow, was exactly my issue and my fiancé kept saying my pencil was just broken 😂. Thanks man
Chase, I used the original adapter that came with my 1rst Gen Apple Pencil on my 12.9 2021 M1 iPad Pro. Like you I have my pencil from my old 2017 iPad Pro. I went into setting, Bluetooth, select (i) which takes you to next page and here I selected Forget This Device on my 2017 iPad. I downloaded LightBlue app on my 2021 IPad Pro and set up my 1 Gen Apple Pencil with my 12.9 2021 iPad Pro using the original adapter that came with my 1 Gen Apple Pencil and paired (to pair enter 1234) it with my new iPad and it works great. The one caveat is you will need to tell it to forget device on the new iPad every time you charge it and then repair it again to the new IPad which is not a deal breaker of course I saved my self $129.00 from buying the new pencil. I was told the 1rst Gen would not work with the new iPads, only the 2nd Gen works with them. Hopefully others will find this work for them as well. Take care Chase and thank you for sharing.
I was wondering that - got an old pencil and in the market for new iPad pro. Good to know that'll still work - charging it and pairing it every time did sound like a pain thought
whats worse is you need the cable still and it's not USB-C MALE on one side of the adapter
I lost my adapter someone help me.. I can no longer Connect it to my iPad and I don’t know how to get another adapter..
It’s so crazy that the usb-c/lightning cord doesn’t work with the adapter it comes with.. like they had to do that on purpose
And apparently when you turn off the iPad the pencil unpairs so you can’t just borrow someone’s one time and be done.
friendly video and informative, thanks!
Thanks for watching!
This is outrageous.
so if you connect the 1st-Gen APPLE Pencil to the 10th-Gen iPad using the USB-C adapter, will it be able to have pen pressure unlike the USB-C apple pencil?
i have the USB-C apple pencil right now which doesn't have pen pressure & want to see if buying this would fix my problem
According to Apple themselves, the Apple Pencil USB-C is the most affordable option so it lacks pressure sensitivity. The Apple Pencil 1st-gen is $20 more than the Apple Pencil USB-C but does include pressure sensitivity.
okay thank you so much!@@ChaseYama
Thanks for the help. I actually had the pencil in the original charging adapter like you said and trying to connect it while watching this video. When you said it didn't work I said ,"Fuck!". Anyway, thank you again for the help!
This Apple Pencil work only for iPad 10th not for iPad Pro 12.9 2nd gen?
both
Does it work with the new USB-C to Lightning Adapter? Same process?
Not sure if the new USB-C to Lightning Adapter works with Apple Pencil. Apple doesn't seem to mention it on their website. While it may be worth a try, I think your best bet is to just get the Apple Pencil to USB-C adapter. Plus, it is $20 cheaper.
Finally!!! A video that solved my issue!
Glad this helped!
Hello, I am in your shoes before you received your dungle/ Apple adapter for 1 gen with. Ipad 10😳🥵😶🌫️🥶It is very stressful. I feel since Apple released this knowing about a difference in the original dungle that comes with your Apple Pencil, it should be made available without cost. At least put out information stating this so you can simply buy it and not have to go around the world trying to get help! On another note, have you heard mention that you can not pair your hearing aides? Well, don’t know about anyone else but as for me, my hearing aides will not pair. Please let me know if you have any advice. Thanks🌹🌿
Hey, It’s me again! On another note, why I purchased a new iPad? Because my iPad 9 charging port/portal is broken. I can no longer get the iPad to charge, completely dead. No other issues but no Apple care & warranty has ran out. Would be over $200.00 to try to get it changed out. Are you able to tell me what type of components this is? Like does it rest on a board? Or an individual component by itself? I can not find anyone that works on a broken charging portable. I would like , to see what I could do myself in getting it to function. Any suggestions on how to get it to charge? Would love some advice please. Thanks again,
New to apple, and man, they don't make things as easy as everyone says. Lol
I go 3 times at Apple shop because i think my adapter are the correct 😢
The adaptor seem like a one time use item!! And if so it should be $2 and available in all store which sell apple products; apple won't be losing money!! Thanks Chase for this video, I need one 🤦🏾♀️
They didn’t have enough room to put the big magnet in the ipad 10
I bought my adapter 2 weeks ago and I'm having a problem, the lightning port end is loose. I don't know why, but when I connect my pencil or even my lightning cable, it is loose and falls. Has anyone encountered this? How do I fix this?
Based on what you said, it sounds like you may have the ports backwards? I believe the side with the small circle is the side to plug your Apple Pencil into.
Similar problem I faced and I still can’t the answer to it. Apple sent me a second adapter and still the port of the lightning is loose and does not fit the pencil. The ports are correctly identified for usb c and lightning, no issues with wrong port, for avoidance of doubt as chase mentioned below.
@@ChaseYama yo, sorry my reply was a bit late but here's a little update...
It turns out, my pencil has a factory defect, the port waa like pushed down which makes the adapter loose since the "lock" of the male port (pencil) does not reach the bottom of the adapter. I had to send my pencil to the service center and had it replaced for a new one.
@@vt2965 hey, I waited for 2 months for apple to check the pencil and the adapter only to say the pencil has a factory defect 😮💨
@@amerzing thanks for this update. So it seems my pencil had the same defect based on your description….will drop by Apple service center to get it replace , hopefully 😟
Your video just solved my 2 hours of frustration of trying to pair the apple pencil 2nd gen to my daughter's 10th gen ipad that I got her for Christmas (will return it to get the 1st gen, with the one time use annoying adapter of course). One of the very few reasons why I personally prefer Android electronics rather than Apple. Kids, on the other hand, prefer Apple.
Glad this video helped!
Honestly, you may even be able to buy the adapter, pair the Pencil, and then request a return. But don’t tell anyone I told you that 🫢
Thank you me too!
It says this accessory is not compatible with this device but it’s the same as yours
I’m having the exact same issue. Did you manage to fix yours?
The adapter comes with the pencil. People are confused about it but Apple said they wanted to give people the opportunity to make the 1st generation pencil work with the new iPads by being compatible with those who had it from other iPads.
I’ve done this with my pen and it still will not connect. Is there any way to fix this?
I have the adaptor but it still doesn’t pair
I do the same thing bought the adapter but its doesnt connect 😢
What app are u using to write your name.?
That was just in the built-in Notes app!
Mines doesn’t work 🥺😭
Uh oh spaghettios is my fav word
I got the adapter for free, it was already included in the box when I bought it
Does the usb c to usb c cabel come with ipad 10?
No it didnt
@@Alaag602 Yes, the cable comes with the ipad but the adapter only comes with new versions of 1st gen apple pencil.
So I have to buy an adapter for literally 5sec use…
I don't understand why the second pencil doesn't work with the 10th 😅
My pencil won’t even work after charging it. I had it for two weeks now
I’ve had mine five months and it won’t work 😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭😭
@@IsabelaPriest I ended up buying a $20 dupe on Amazon and it works the same. Should’ve just done that first. 🤣
I‘ve lost the adapter for the 4th time and I have to buy it again😭
@@musicfie4037 omg same but I couldn’t find a adapter in my small apartment 😭✋
So you’re telling me I can’t pair a Apple Pencil 2nd generation to this iPad? (10th generation) 😢
Unfortunately, you can only use the 1st-Generation Apple Pencil with the 10th-Gen iPad.
@@ChaseYama
There is always a way to make things work, but how knows.
I found out that you can just plug the actual pencil into the ipad

I could marry you lol literally have been going crazy
LOL I'm glad this video helped!
Apple needs to do replaceable batteries. These devices go dead if not used in a long time.
I brought my dead first gen Apple pencil back to life by placing it under a hot water bottle for 30 minutes.
Yeah....they make what should be a simple thing......very complicated!!!!!!
Just buy it pair it then return it 😇
I like the way you think 😂
Good thing I have an iPad Air :)! (5th Generation If u were wondering.)
I HATE apple for doing this to their customers.
