Beta blockers ability to block the B1 receptor is probably the most effective way to relive discomfort from a racing heart. Also, another risk factor for POTs that goes largely unspoken is cervical instability. Improper neck posture puts pressure on both the vagus nerve and the glossalpharegial nerve. Agitate those and you will get pots type symptoms.
Also, on treatment: there are protocols for the use of exercise, such as the Levine protocol and the Dallas/CHOP modified protocol (which is better for exercise-intolerant patients). These are very effective, particularly when paired with physical therapy, and are superior to simple aerobic exercise
❤ I have the opposite… My heart beats too fast laying down to sleep, and I get extreme headaches in the back of my head 4 hours later. Then I get up in the middle of the night, drink coffee, and the headaches go away. 63 year-old male. 🤷♂️
I’m not a doctor but a fellow patient in search of answers. Have the doctors evaluated you for Idiopathic Intracranial Hypertension (IIH)? I was evaluated for IIH since I have POTS and wake up with migraines, so apparently IIH can cause positional headaches and that’s because of heightened intracranial pressure when lying down. There was an urgency to get evaluated for it because people left untreated can go blind. I had to see an neuro ophthalmologist to rule out IIH to see if my optic nerve was inflamed. I got IIH ruled out but I wanted to share my experience with you since your comment reminded me of it. I googled IIH and it said that it can cause a higher heart rate while lying down. I also wanted to share this because my doctor had told me this can affect young females or older men. Best wishes to you in your search for answers ❤
@@k.mcdonald1960 just saw this, thank you so much for taking the time to inform me about this. I’ll forward this to the doctors in see if it’s part of what’s going on or not. Thanks again! 🩷
when I listen to your lectures I get learning and fun and the same time I thank you for your wonderful explanations and I hope if you start new course in symptomatology and signs in clinical❤❤❤❤
@@KateDouglass-rf9dscardiologists can diagnose it, but it's not a disorder of the heart, it's a form of dysautonomia (disorder of the autonomic nervous system)
It is a neurological disorder how do u not know that it’s a autonomic dysfunction disorder. The autonomic nervous system is a neurological system in ur body
U do realize pots is a autonomic nervous system dysfunction problem so it is a neurological disorder if it’s not neurological the next thing would be a immune system problem as recent research is suggesting pots could be autoimmune since pots cases have doubled since COVID and we know COVID can trigger autoimmunity
A video very relevant to me unfortunately, developed it after getting coronavirus. It's a pain but thankfully i don't have it as badly as some other people do
Hi, there is also a kind of palpitation observed on lying down, especially post prandial but also on an empty stomach. What is it called?? Will you be doin a video on it???

quick thing i want to address as someone with POTS; POTS is a neurological condition, NOT a cardiac condition
When I was diagnosed I was told that it’s both. My doctor was a cardiologist at Mayo specializing in it

Clonidine and alpha methyldopa are alpha 2 agonists, they decrease sympathetic activity
