I used the most common yarn 5 ply cotton yarn (or sport weight yarn), 4 ply yarn also works for this pattern. For the stem you can look for metal wire in DIY shops.
Could you please help I have made up the two discs both with a stitch count of 42 I am now on to doing the petals and have become a bit stuck how many stitches should I use per petal as getting 12 petals around my math isn't adding up right 42÷12 comes=3.5

Hi, you can make 36 stitches for R7, 3 stitches for 1 petal, total 12 petals. 12*3=36.
