- Hydrogen Proton Tennis Ball Machine experiencing the "beep of death". The flywheel spins up to speed but when it comes to shooting the ball, the proton beeps and either aborts the drill or just doesn't shoot. I tried both firmware v3 and v4.
I cycled through the debug options and found that the carousel is the culprit. Watch through to understand how I was able to come to that conclusion.
It’s an absolutely amazing machine. I appreciate that they allow users to play with it and make repairs
Yea I love it overall too. I really appreciate that they've sent me replacement parts out of warranty. My biggest gripe is that they don't sell replacement parts like all the other ball machines so you actually can't really make repairs at home. I'd rather pay $20 for a replacement motor and have a backup one in stock then wait 2-3 weeks for customer service to send me a new one. My machine has been out of service since I've made this video :(
I haven't experienced this issue but wanted to thank you for making this video.
Thanks for this-just showing the testing setup and disassembled view. So, do you recommend this machine? You’ve already had two carousel issues. Any other problems? I’m trying to decide whether to spend the money on this versus keeping my Lobster Elite One. The Lobster does what I need it to do, but it’s too large for the trunk of my car, and I have to transport it in the front seat. At my age, it is always potentially a twitch away from pulling a muscle in my back getting it in and out (that just happened for the first time this week….).
I just don't see a reasonable alternative. This machine checks a LOT of boxes for the price point. I didn't buy it for the size, but it's been a really nice benefit. The battery life is astounding.
But what I've come to "need" is the programming. I'll hit 100 "mini tennis" balls as a warm up. Then I go full court. It's so easy and it's so much like hitting with a human that I hardly call anyone to hit lately.
I'm also having this issue after 10k balls. I'm also getting the part. I hope they've sorted out the flaw.
Im in market for a tennis ball machine. Im interested in the proton. But am not a techy type person to be taking machine a part fixing things, re setting this and that, burnt motors etc... Is this common as I hit alot of balls, I need a reliable machine. Thanks.
Nice Video! Question: Which type of tennis balls do you recommend? traditional e.g. Penn? vs pressure-less e.g. Wilson Triniti Pro? Is there a durability difference of the ball itself. Thank you!
How do you disassemble it?
Thanks for the video David. Were you able to replace the carousel motor? Brand? Model/Part number? Did you get it directly from Hydrogen Sports or elsewhere? Thanks.
Did you ever get the third replacement motor? I just ordered and waiting for mine to arrive, and I'm wondering about common issues or reliability. Since it's now two motors for you, I wonder if there is something causing the motors to stall-out, like a miss feed or stuck ball? Do you recall that ever happening? I see that Hydrogen changed the stir rod on the newer models. Maybe it's related?
Yes, I actually realized that the reason my motor was burning out was because I wasn't replacing my Wilson Trinitis frequently enough. Some balls had almost no felt left on them, which makes them rubbery. These balls get stuck in the rotary motor because they have a smaller circumference and don't slip, which burns out the motor.
I now use Wilson Triniti Pros, which have a significantly longer timespan. They're more expensive but sometimes go on sale.
Hi David! How did u get the shell out of the machine? 😢
@@mitchalbano3017 they have a video on their website that shows it. It takes a bit of force and wiggling it around because the shell needs to be bent a little bit to get it out.
How old is your proton? how many hours of use?
Making my own. Hard to find decent wheels. How far apart are yours. Im using flat surface 35mm apart.
