      I can tell you're you're a Groove Metal guy, while the skill and technical prowess are important it's nice to have something to ride through the song. If you're looking for a car test check out White Zombie - El Phantasmo and the Chicken Run Blast-o-rama , or Electric Head Pt.1 (The Agony). Not all their song titles are really long, but they go all out.

    The thing about Lars Ulrich is that from 1983 to 1991, he was a very good Thrash Metal drummer and was very discernable from the other ones, wich is something special that good drummers have. Then mid-nineties, he switched to a more Groovy Blues Rock approach, which is cool because that's what the band was doing in that period. But late-nineties/Early 2000's, he sort of withered as a drummer and became much more lazy, sloppy and overall less hungry than he was in his youth, which is understandable because he had made it as a musician, he didn't and still doesn't need to prove anything to anyone.But now, he's only a shadow of his former self. That's what people are talking about, but alot of them fail to realize how good he was late-eighties. Sad because his early style was very unique back then. If you want to hear Lars' drumming at its "peak", listen to Dyer's Eve or Blackened, great drumming in those.

      Thing is Lars “don’t need to change” because he had already achieved what he wanted, that’s his style imo. He’s not the best drummer out there as Kirk is not the best guitarist (the wah-wah guy) etc... they’re not my favorite musicians but every Metallica member has his own style and yes, still my favorite band.

      As a drummer, I would say that his best drumming is on The Frayed Ends Of Sanity

    • @tommytrottier6100
      @tommytrottier6100 4 года назад +4

      @@cintiaitnic It's not as easy as style though. He's sloppy. He speeds up whenever there are "punches" with the guitar. His fills are too numerous, boring and loud for many song like Fade To Black. He has lost his flair and what he is doing today is unforgivable for his popularity. I am also a very picky drummer and that type of stuff bothers me alot. He honestly sounds like a beginner today. I say this not as a hater but as someone who looks up to old Lars as an inspiration. Btw yes Frayed Ends for the win. That whole album is crazy on drums

    • @cintiaitnic
      @cintiaitnic 4 года назад

      Tommy Trottier I agree with you, however what I actually meant is that he is not like he used to be maybe because of his age... but I believe it’s more like he doesn’t want to be better anymore (he may justifies it as his style), he could practice it to be better again but it’s like he’s been lazy or apathetic... due to his achievements. Still hard to see him play as he’s doing now, but yea... it’s Lars. (I feel your pain xD)

    His double bass kick is legendary. I would put him on par with Igor Cavellera. With drums sometimes less is more. Some "great" drummers overpower songs. Lars keeps the band on track and accents the songs perfectly. Also there are times when he just goes off. Anyway great react fam.

    its the snare drum whip crack sound that cuts through and the rare off beat and stoppy starty rolls that make it compelling . Also the guitars coming in a bit of a lower note than you expect ,giving the extra Heavy feel . The solo is smooth and melodic ,fast enough but not insane . Its all very well produced and polished .
    If you like drums do try Sepultura Territory , its a bit heavier, moodier and more raw . but just as much head nodding if not more . Better in a way as they didn't need so much sound engineering.

    It is also worth remembering to distinguish whether the criticism concerns how he plays today or how he has played before. I haven’t heard anyone criticize him for the way he plays on decades-old Metallica albums but mostly today. And I think it’s pretty obvious when you get older, you aren´t necessarily in exactly the same condition as when you were younger. Maybe it’s just not easy to understand if you listen to decades-old Metallica songs and compare them to today’s production or live performances.

    Lars is a great drummer. Yes he gets sloppy at times and yes he goofs up at times. But all drummers do. People just love to hate on Lars because they are jealous. They forget he is the reason so many metal drummers even got interested in drumming. And he is the reason Aton of drummers use the heel up technique on double bass..

    If you react to unforgiven by Metallica, do all three. It's a three song trilogy, unforgiven 1,2 and 3. Personally 3 is my favorite but they're all great. Most reactors seem to stop after 1 or 2 at most. Hate it.

    Lars Ulrich is the drummer and he is very good. Some people dislike him because he made a big fuss about music people stolen on websites back in the day. Let's hear some Drop Kick Murpheys they are a boston irish punk rock band. "Shipping up to Boston", "State of Massachusetts", and a live performance with a female guest singer "Dirty Glass" at lansdowne. you will get a kick out of the bagpipes and mandolin

    I saw them in concert last year when they did the 20th anniversary with the San Francisco Symphony and they have not lost their touch just as badass as ever in my humble opinion.
    Another band you can react to is Rammstein (german band) start with live version of Du Hast in paris. And enjoy the show 😊

    And this song is 30 years old. He was greatness back then. As he got older they got a little slower and behind the beat sometimes. He's also had issues with faulty and cheap equipment. It would make him sound really bad. Sometimes his mouth and head are too big for his hat.

    Lmfao yeah that Lars playing. Everyone gives him heat because it’s funny but he’s actually the perfect drummer for Metallica. He’s not bad at all, but has a reputation for being simplistic with his style. He doesn’t mix it up too much. What you hear the guitars playing, you can assume he’s playing right along with them without (m)any groove changes.

    People talk shit about Lars ever since the Napster issue. While he is not the most technical drummer out there, he does some things that you will not see much or even hear on record like Arranging a song, he and James are the main songwriters / arrangers for Metallica and people seem to just brush it off or just plain ignorant and judge him with his drumming.

    I was a teenager in the 1980's when I saw Lars-(the Drummer) play their song "One" -(the long version 1988). I was Impressed, especially with Lars' footwork on the drums, his playing was outstanding!
    * My problem with him personally is his Attitude/Ego. He's so far up his own ass! He's known for boosting his own ego up by ranting on about his achievements to media etc. "Fame" 'went-to-his-head', Real Quick, if you know what I mean?
    He was probably like this to start with but when Metallica reached fame, Lars' ego only got bigger & bigger!
    * But, He can play those Drums well, as far as i'm concerned.
