This is an "Audio only" concert that was recorded at City Limits, Fort Lauderdale, FL. There is another post of this concert, but their post is only 38mins long and mine is just topping off at 58mins or so. That means there are tunes published herein that have yet to be heard by the public at large. I truly hope you enjoy this. I couldn't just let it continue to sit here in a folder and not share it with all of you. Allan Holdsworth was clearly at the height of his powers during the late 80s and 90s. This was a concert I attended as a very young lad. It was in Ft. Lauderdale, Florida.
Thank you to John Vullo for identifying these tunes.
Track list:

Man, this is fantastic. Vinnie Colaiuta is spectacular on this, a great fit with Allan's music. Holdsworth the greatest to ever play the instrument. A hundred years from now new musicians will be listening to his music in awe. RIP Allan.
I know this recording is absolutely incredible! Thanks for listening to it!
love how colaiuta quantizes his drum fills, fits perfect with Holdsworth's melodic runs
Some of the best drumming I’ve ever heard.
Absolutely scary good isn’t it?
Vinnie Colaiuta is the best best best best

Well that was very kind of you, Leo! Thank you so much for the support and I hope you enjoyed the concert. Soon I will be releasing a video that will be launching a book about how Alan Holdsworth did what he did and it is the most important text on this topic ever published. Definitely subscribe and hit the notification bell so you don’t miss When that comes out
Alan’s greatest band IMO! One for music history!
Good lord this is a band to die for.... Jimmy sounds so present in this recording, for which this bass player thanks you.
Well he definitely is too loud in the mix lol so it’s perfect for you as a bass player!!😃 I saw Alan Holdsworth play two times. Both of those times he just wasn’t loud enough! In many of the bootleg that I’ve heard he’s not loud enough. At any rate, it’s really great to have your support and thank you so much for listening to it!!! It would be great to have you as a member of this channel… Even if you are a bass player 😉
Absolutely stunning bass work!
The Maestro in devastating form, supported by an incredible band. There will never be another...
Fontsman! You are so right! I’m so pleased that you enjoyed this!! I really do hope you subscribe and hit the notification bell because relatively soon I’m going to be helping launch the most important holdsworth book ever written! Indeed, this channel covers many different genres… And I’m sure that you will enjoy those videos, and you definitely won’t want to miss what I mentioned earlier! How’s that for a teaser?
No there won't be....he has lots of imitators.......but there ain't nothing like the real thing.....please people....don't reply and say that Guthrie Govern is as good....I've seen him live...and he ain't...2 hours of my life I won't get back🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱🥱
@@davidscott1052 The problem with guitar is that people focus far too much on technique. With Allan it was always about the music. The technique was merely a means to a musical goal. So many of today's players focus on technique but then struggle to produce a body of musical work worth listening to.
@@davidscott1052I'm quite certain that Allan would have found your ridiculous put down of the amazing Guthrie Govan (obviously not as good as the one of a kind Allan-nobody is), as stupid as I do. It's one thing to say Allan's better, and quite another to go on and pretend that he's therefore a complete bore. Guthrie is anything but boring, a fascinating, witty, brilliant musician, and he's smart and gracious; you'd be a 100% better person if you were to emulate those traits.
@@Gregorypeckory thanks for the "life lesson" 🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣..F.Y.I. seen both live ....no comparison Holdsworth just so much more musical and melodic....have a nice day day🤣🤣🤣
Damn, Looking Glass just brings me to tears. What a chord progression!
so glad you enjoyed this!
That's been my experience for 30+years. I still haven't reconciled it. Blows my head off every time.
They Sound Immortal!

💯
Never heard Holdsworth with Vinnie live. Unreal!! Thanks for this gem.
Thanks for listening
Yea man. This is the recording I’ve always wanted.
Very clear recording. Great to be able to hear all the detail of Vinnie's playing.
Still glad you enjoyed this! I have been sitting on this recording for so long… And I was just waiting for the right time to release it. Thank you for your support and I hope you subscribe and hit the notification bell so you don’t miss anything upcoming!
vinnie plays great anything. and allan...well, he was an absolute genius...we miss him so much and will always miss him
This is great! Jimmy Johnson does sound so present, as someone else said. Vinnie brought his full self to this performance and is at the apex of his powers.
Thank you so much and I'm really glad you enjoyed this!
It's so great that one of the finest guitarists of all time was also such a lovely chap. And I like his Charvel strat there!
I find this music extremely calming
I agree, Allan is a little soft in the mix but hearing Jimmy in your face like this is just as amazing. Amazing set all around, peak period in Allan's music... Synthaxe live too!
Well said!!!
… He always sounded like this to me live. Never loud enough
From what I have heard so far, Allan's synthaxe stuff from this time period is simply amazing. Wish there was more of it. Honestly, I enjoy his synthaxe playing almost as much as I do his guitar playing. The synthaxe with the breath controller in Allan's hands is a match made in heaven.
according to gary husband, allan loves to be buried in the mix. i would attribute that to allan's self deprecation of his playing.
Oh shit, this sounds amazing. What a treasure!
Yes, I have been sitting on this for decades. So glad it’s being appreciated so wisely. Please subscribe and hit the notification bell because you’re not going to want to miss the next Allan Holdsworth video which will be historical… Literally!
❤ What a treasure this is! I wish the guitar was a little bit louder but it sounds to me like Holdsworth is feeling good about what he’s doing. I always hear beauty in his playing but not always joy. Thank you for posting.
I totally agree!
I was at this show - only Holdsworth show I ever saw - too bad I can't remember it. This is the next best thing. Thanks.
Omg wowwwwwww! Incredible! You don’t remember Ronnie Montrose opened up?
@@streetwiseguitar5113 Yes I do but I definitely don't remember any of his show either other than to say it was rockin
Still got my ticket stub (saved all my concert stubs over the years)
Finally a good recording thanks for this! wow VC on fire!
I’m so pleased you like this! I hope you subscribe hit the notification bell as it would be great to have you as a part of the community. Thank you so much for your support
What a band! You’re hearing it but you’re not realizing it’s really happening
That’s exactly how I felt when I was there listening to it!
Had to make sure playback speed was normal. Unreal.
Crazy how some of this works, more Allan moments to astonish my ear.
August 21, 1988, according to my sources. Thanks for the upload.
Crazy to think that I was just a young lad at a time… Very glad you enjoyed this! Shortly, I will be helping to launch the most important text ever written on how Allan Holdsworth did what he did. Be sure to hit the notification bell so you don’t miss it although… I will post it on the obligatory Holdsworthian sites😉
My gods what a Synthaxe solo on Looking Glass. Jawdropping. Kudos to Steve Hunt, too, for having to follow that on keyboard synth (I love Steve Hunt). And of course my fave Allan bass man, Jimmy Johnson. Vinnie is just from another planet, so different from Chad and Gary.
This is mind-blowing. Thank you 🙏
You're very welcome
Amazing audio quality dude! Thanks for posting! For me this is the best line up ever with Vinnie Colaiuta on drums! Keep on posting, I will support you!
Red! Thank you so much for taking the time to listen to this! I’m glad you found this channel because in the near future, I’m going to be launching the most important book on how Allan Holdsworth did what he did. There has been nothing like this available until now! Well I should really say “now“… But soon. So definitely subscribe and hit the notification bell. You also notice that I cover lots of different topics. I encourage you to check out some of the videos, you might really like the variety!? Again thank you for your support!
@@streetwiseguitar5113 I am really looking forward when you launching a book on how Allan Holdsworth did what he did. He really was a nice person. One of a kind! Great composer! Thank you for your information.
Love me some Flim - yes a decent mix of him.
I've never heard distance live. Amazing. As far as bands he has played with, at its absolute apex, this might top any other.
Couldn't agree more!
Check out the Donati - crawford era.... Unbelievable
@@dressedtosmellgood I sure wish they had recorded!
Thank you for this! I saw this tour in a small club. Ronnie Montrose opened. Allan was other-worldly as was this lineup
Exactly! Ronnie Montrose open.
wow, never knew the "Secrets"" line up ever played live. one of his best, if not THE best solo album.
Highly original compositions with a killer band. Too bad they never, to my knowledge, never played any songs from Secrets live.
Thank you for listening!!!
There are live versions of Spokes and Maid Marion!
@@reubennb2859 Spokes, really? I assume he must have played the Synthaxe live then?
I know he used to play it live earlier, but thought he stopped doing it by the time Secrets came out.
geez, i like being throttled my flurries of ubernotes as any fusion fan, this is the finest and rare recording of the secrets band. but take a breath once in a while. geez, im hallucinating!
thanks for boasting...ah, posting!
;-)
42:15 , my god Vinnie, pulling hi-hat fills like that out of the ether … amazing
Amen
man, no words to say thank you! 🙏🏻❤
My pleasure!
Unbelievably good playing defies description.
Thank you kindly! So glad you enjoyed this!
Thank you so much for the upload. Although that end scared the shit out of my bowels. lol
Lol if you like this, you should definitely watch my interview with Brett Stine, who wrote the most important text on Allan Holdsworth. In the interview he breaks down a lot of the things that have been mysteries for guitar players. Look at my video cachet so you can check it out!

It’s so great to be appreciated for this thing that I unearthed ! It brought back a lot of memories

@@streetwiseguitar5113 already subscribed, thanks! 👍🏼
Maid Marion and Non Brewed Condiment songs are missing.
Very nice show, in 1987 Allan was beginning to challenge himself demonstrating feats that can not be emulated, but the most unstoppable and furious moment would come 1 year from end 1989 later until 1995 where in those 6 years was his most bloodthirsty stage and his impossible peak.
I got to See Holdsworth three times back in the 1990s when I lived near Boston, MA. Back then he was was using Kei Akagi on keys... and it's not that the guy isn't an obvious monster player, but his synth tones and settings always turned me off... but Hunt really gets it right... and what can you say about Allan that hasn't been said by others? One-of-a-kind guitarist whose playing forever changed what was possible on the instrument---
I couldn’t agree with you more…on everything you said! NAILED IT💥 that you so much for supporting this channel via watching/listening. Please subscribe🙏
THANK YOU!!!!1

@@streetwiseguitar5113 Done.
great
I AGREE! You Don't Hear Good Audio Engineering Like This Often! Who is turning the Dials and Pushing Sliders?
VINNIE!!!!!!!
None other!
The only drummer that can play legato 😮 amazing
Dang, I didn’t even know Vinnie toured with AH, I just thought he used Husband or Wackerman during this time. I know Vinnie played some on the Secrets album. Thanks for this concert. White Line is sick as usual.
don't forget Gary Novak....
Oh yea Sixteen Men and some touring.
Actually expected a video of the performance and was disappointed ......story of my life.
Trust me... If I could've made a video of the show it would've looked like shit. Video cameras in 1988 was a big as a briefcase. And their video looked horrific.
@@streetwiseguitar5113 I get what you say. But i was expecting a professional recording with a camera used for hollywood movies as movies in 1988 had very acceptable resolution.. Surely the company promoting these artists could afford the bill
@@verifiedtoxicangel2411I think Allan was mostly promoting himself. Besides jazz festivals , they were mostly playing small clubs. TV cameras and film crew back in the day would have cost a fortune. I don't think he had any record labels that were throwing money at him for promotion.
@@mancuniancandidatem Makes sense.....and also a great definition for people who wonder what the term "starving artist" means.
Amazing that Allan who absurdly used to almost have to pay to play as in IOU, eventually managed to afford employ to a top session man on drums.
Maybe Vinnie cut him a deal for the pleasure of playing with a genius guitarist composer
Pob! very well could’ve been!!!? So glad that you enjoyed this recording! I hope you subscribe hit the notification bell so you don’t miss the next Allan Holdsworth video which will be earth shattering!
According to Ed Chang's book, "Devil Take the Hindmost," the guys who played in Allan's bands made very little money doing so. They did it because they loved playing Allan's music with him. And most if not all of them made their money elsewhere; Chad toured with Barbara Streisand, Jimmy toured with James Taylor, Steve was in Stanley Clark's band... and of course Vinnie played with virtually everybody. Anyway, thanks for sharing this concert! As bummed as I am that Holdsy left this mortal coil, he at least left us a great collection of live and studio recordings, with stuff like the above concert still coming out of the woodwork. I saw him live a half dozen times and as grateful as I am over that, it never could've been enough!
Dude
I deliver!!!💥💥💥😃
o......m........g.........!
That's excellent! Thank you for posting! How did you get such a good audio quality recording?
straight from the board
Hey Streetwise you got any new interviews coming up anytime soon? The Mancuso and Meader ones were elite stuff!
Thank you for asking OSC. I have only one more to coming up. This will be the launch of the most important Allan Holdsworth text EVER. Myself along with the author will be revealing and detailing how he did what he did. I can’t give you a date on it, but it’s already in the can and ready to go. after that, I’m done with interviews. Interviews do everything for the artist that I’m interviewing, which is nice. However, it does absolutely nothing for me, nor my business. If I had any semblance of a decent income, I will continue doing interviews, but I don’t. I’m working hard… Very hard to build this RUclips channel so I could sell my tutorials… I’m sure you can understand. I love doing interviews but it is clearly time to stop and continue putting out the other great stuff that I do so well.
@@streetwiseguitar5113 Totally understandable mate, keep trying to build the channel!
Don’t be so hard on yourself. Enjoy the music that’s all he wanted you to do!
Omggggg
If there is a god , it is Allan !!!!!
Well Tony…I will be helping to launch the most important text on alan Holdsworth explaining how he did everything he did! It's over 1000 pages and you will hear about it if you subscribe to my channel. The video should be coming out in late January or maybe February. This will direct you to the text.
Off the hook drumming
Insane!!!!
Com esse aí o caldo é grosso meus amigos !!! não tem brincadeira !!!
Thank you for listening!!!
The 80’s. Definitely Allan’s salad days
Lindsey It was certainly quite a time! I hope you hit the notification bell and subscription button so you don’t miss anything upcoming regarding Alan Holdsworth!
I saw Holdsworth open for AL Dimeola in the late 80's at Berklee Boston. Anyone out there know the date of that performance? (or even the year?)
Boy it should've been the other way around! I heard Al Di Meola play electric guitar with Chick Corea about 10 years ago and it was absolutely horrendous. Lol at any rate… There's going to be a very important Allan Holdsworth video happening in the near future. I hope you subscribe hit the notification bell so you don't miss it!
@@streetwiseguitar5113 Thank you sir. Isubscribed
@@streetwiseguitar5113 Al DI Meola is incredible! You need to go back and do a little more research and listen to his discography
I bet at some point, one could use AI to improve this mix and bring the level of Allan's guitar up. This recording would be perfect were it not for how low the guitar is, but I'm not complaining. incredibly grateful.
If you hear of a way to do this… Contact me directly on Instagram. Same channel name.
@@streetwiseguitar5113 Certainly. I do know that there are AI services that one can use that do instrument separation, which could theoretically be used to isolate the guitar, therefore allowing one to increase the level of it before putting the mix back together. I'll keep an eye out, but you could also probably just do a Google search and find something relevant along those lines. Cheers!
@@streetwiseguitar5113 I just don't know how good any of them are at this point in time, or how well they would be able to distinguish Allan's unique guitar tone from the rest of the instruments.
It's like hold music from another dimension crossed with the theme song from an intergalactic cop show that is also an 80s porno movie
And I mean that as a complement hahaha
lololol So what yer REALLY saying is that you like it !!!
Yeah I love it, thanks for posting!
80s porno? Needs more wah wah. And cowbell oc.
Awesome show btw, how did you find this?
“Deadikace” said it would have been his 78th Birthday RIP smoothest jazz ever
Ok but what he wants to say? There is no sense phrase, It's a continuous loop that expresses nothing...
so... exactly how high are you?
@@streetwiseguitar5113 He's not high man, just clueless. Continuous loop, ahahhaahha thanks for the laugh mate.
