This is a reupload of an older video that I decided to redo the audio on. The original (still up on RUclips) has a very poor voice recording. I decided to redo the voice and this is the result. I did this because I will soon be posting a video about making custom Bahtinov masks, and thought my original Bahtinov video needed some love

Thank you! I don't always pronounce it correctly, but I thought it would be good to put it out there so people know.

Great story of the origin of the Bahtinov mask. Thanks for putting it together and share it.
So Bahtinov took the hacker-ethic to heart by not patenting his design. It reminds me of the same kind of pioneers described in the book "Hackers - Heroes of the computer revolution" by Steven Levy.

Hopfully your new video will include the amazing work done by Satoru Takagi and Cytan in developing the Tri-Bahtinov mask.

That's a good idea! The next video is a tutorial on how to create a custom Bahtinov mask (i.e., with initials or custom designs).

Without mr. Bahtinov my stars would still sometimes be eggs or donuts.

@@deepskydetail i never got how anyone could spent hours on it. Im using sct8 as my current main scope and i never spent more then 3 tries. Few min. Get huge star in frame, zoom as u can on it and just fiddle. After some time you wont know if its an improvement or u made it worse.

And that's why Williams Optics should do the same with their Bahtinov design. Because They patented their design, other manufacturers cannot use the Bahtinov lense cover cup design to include this essential piece of equipment with their telescopes. Shame on you Williams Optics.

I did not know that! That seems like something that shouldn't have got a patent.
