- The Ahmedabad Vadodara Expressway or Mahatma Gandhi Expressway or National Expressway 1 is an expressway connecting the cities of Ahmedabad and Vadodara in the state of Gujarat, India. The 93.1 km (57.8 mi) long[3] expressway reduces the travel time between the two cities[4] from two and a half hours to an hour. It was declared as National Expressway 1 in 1986.
Expressway
The expressway has 2 lanes each side. The expressway opened in 2004. It has two exit loops at Nadiad and Anand. In 2009, the National Highways Authority of India announced plans to upgrade the expressway to six lanes. Two-wheeler vehicles of all kinds are forbidden on the expressway. The expressway is fenced to prevent the entry of two wheelers and cattle, along with several underpasses and overbridges to allow vehicles to cross over.
The Delhi-Mumbai Expressway is a 1,350 km long, 8-lane wide (expandable to 12-lane) under-construction (partially operational) access-controlled expressway connecting India's national capital New Delhi to its financial capital Mumbai.[5][6][7][8] The foundation stone for the project was laid by union minister Nitin Gadkari in the presence of Sushma Swaraj and Arun Jaitley on 8 March 2019 and is inaugurated by PM Modi.[9] The total project value including the land acquisition cost is around ₹1,00,000 crores (~US$13.1 billion)

When i am small kid & use to travel to anand/ godhra/ vadodara at that region from Ahmedabad around 1999- 2000. That time this NE 1 construction started.... When pass through it we saw the development....how firstly level up the whole surface...than filling with the sands...doing plantation.....means when we pass through after 1/2 months work was going on....not fast like today but in good pace at that time....then they constructed fancing at both end throughout the whole express way....so many bridges was constructed on it to pass the state highways above this expressway....so many memories of whn it was constructed .....it was taken about 4- 5 yrs to complete construction....
But after opening in 2004 mid... people gone crazy.... suddenly the movement between Ahmedabad & around region to Vadodara region surge like rocket.....due to smooth & less time people started to use it to just go to their relatives houses to meet them or any small occasion & function , people started attending bcoz travelling become so easy between two cities & much secure in any weather condition....so before NE 1 people hesitate to go to Vadodara or Ahmedabad for few hour work/ function....but after NE 1 in 2004 people around two cities travell for small small purposes / functions/ their office works....so it transforms the life definitely....
I remember in starting time in 2004-05 when NE1 open & bcoz speed limit is 100 kmpl....at that time people continuously run their Maruti 800 & old santro & zen on top speed like 90 kmpl around for continuous 30-40 minutes & then people have to stop their car in side ways to become it cool....& In each km you can found cars are parked in side due to overheating issues & let the engine cool...😊😊
This is special road for all Gujaratis .... every gujarati has own experience & memories with this road ...bcoz this road PPL started traveling at any time fearlessly & peacefully in any weather condition.... travel to surat also become nearer due to this road at that time ...
Till todat it's a special & favourite way for gijaratis to travel....NHAI maintain it extremely well & we hope they keep it like this in future...... extremely well maintained by NHAI....
So so much & many efforts was made between 2007 to 2012 by Gujarat govt. to atleast extend it up to surat but in centre that time UPA govt. & In Maharashtra also congress there so no permission was granted for surat / Mumbai.... whole extension this project was stuck due to politics especially from UPA govt. That time in centre..

It's very true that there is a lot of heavy vehicle movement between Vadodara and Mumbai on NH 48, people will get respite only when the much awaited Delhi Mumbai Expressway is completed. Hope it's completed soon !!

Sir, just two days ago, the honourable Prime Minister had announced that a six-lane national highway will be built from Ahmedabad to Tharad, its distance will be approximately 180 km, which will connect Amritsar, Jamnagar and Delhi, Mumbai Expressway through National Expressway 1.

I have been traveling frequently on this expressway since it opened in 2004, recently it has been moving more slowly due to heavy traffic. Despite that, I still enjoy my drive on NE1 every time.

In 2002 I took admission in IGTR and that time have seen its progress,and first part was open Ahmedabad -nadiyad...! I forgot the year.and in 2002 it's CTM start point was look like big very big ground....!! And it was too dangerous to drive on old highway as it was just 2 lane from vadodara via vasad-kheda-ahmedabad..

Sir! You are wrong, this expressway is not a 6 lane but 4 lane one. I regularly travel on this expressway twice a year. Due to the high traffic movement on this highway, driving is very congested. It needs to be converted into a 6 lane properly.
NE1 still is a four lane road, while NH8 is an EIGHT lane road between A'bad abd Vadodara. The toll on NH8 is more than double the toll collected on NE1.
When up to Surat section will start ?

For your information... Pune Mumbai expressway was first expressway in India build under visionary leadership of Shri Nitin Gadakari as PWD minister in Maharashtra state government. But it was sponsored by state government that why it is not National expressway.. and because of Nitin Gadakari ji suggestion, Honourable Atal Ji planned for expressway and golden quadrilateral project and Gujarat grab opportunity under leadership of Shri Narendra Modiji...

I am watching all of your videos it’s very interesting but I want to say something I noticed that when you overtaking you using the left shoulder line . in my knowledge it’s for emergency parking only so many people watching your videos maybe they will thought it’s allowed to use that line. Following line traffic very important if not following that so no use of Theses expressways also you mentioned it’s line road but I saw only two
