This song always brings me to tears. I’m crying right now. My heart aches. My momma sang this to me on Christmas morning, holding me in her arms, as she laid in her hospital bed, when she was singing this to me. She had stage 4 breast cancer. She’d been fighting it for months. I was 7; she was 28. After she sang it to me, she caressed my cheek one last time, smiled and said “I’ll always love you, my baby boy…”. Then, she breathed her last, I watched & felt her pass on…& my heart was ripping apart. I couldn’t stop crying. My heart is breaking; I miss my momma so much!!! I’m crying…

First, I am sorry for your loss. It certainly is not an easy journey carrying on without your best friend, without your lover, without breathing in and out but you do. My partner off 41 glorious years, would sit in our living room and discuss his leaving me behind and how I would manage without him. We looked back at our life together and how strong we were, persevering societal blowback and the sheer ignorance of people along the way but through it all, we had each other. Sitting on the edge of his electric bed when he no longer could get up, he dictated his last will and poured out his heart to me. As I held his hand for the final time, taking him gently to the edge of the river of life, he made me promise two things before he closed his eyes and crossed that river leaving me standing on its banks without his hand in mine….”Gregg, promise me that you will take the time to heal…..then THRIVE.” I promised him, took the necessary time to heal my heart and am now in the midst of THRIVING in his memory. We refused to do the Thelma and Louise routine so I am moving FORWARD but not moving ON. I take him with me 24/7 but have finally opened my heart to new experiences as he would wish me to do. So, mend your broken heart as you should and as it will happen, keep him inside you always but don’t clip your wings for new flight. Celebrate your life with him and the rare love you shared, for many will never experience such a gift but learn how to fly, find your own voice and remember how lucky you are.

This guy is one of the best singers of the world, his lows and highs are so well controlled and his vibrato is spectacular.

That is a simply incomparable version of a classic song from "The Wizard Of Oz," from 1939, 81 years ago. Josh Groban brings this song into the modern age and again shows us that good music is timeless. His musical gifts come from over and beyond the rainbows. His voice is super celestial and downright supernatural. I hope his new "Harmony" album soars high above the rainbows. He is a singer for our time, for anytime. Superb beyond the rainbows.
Still doesn't compare to Judy Garland when she sings this song. It doesn't mean Josh Groban isn't talented but if you haven't heard Judy Garland or think she is somehow an inferior singer then I seriously question your judge of musical talent.
What is so funny is that Louis B. Mayer, the head of MGM Studios who made Wizard of Oz wanted to cut Somewhere Over the Rainbow from the film.
So much for heads of companies always seeing what is best.

He sang it beautifully, but the song was already into the modern age, thanks to the song writers, the orchestration, and especially to Judy Garland, who at just sixteen, managed to sound knowing and naive at the same time. @@allengumm1157 Well, "Over The Rainbow" is from an 84-year-old movie, "The Wizard Of Oz". Judy Garland was born Frances Gumm in 1922, which made her 17 years old upon the song and movie release. She made it modern and timeless and is the definitive version. Josh Groban gave it a good contemporary version and a male version at that that pays homage to the original.

@@zsofia617 The video I saw of Peter was of him singing in a town square full of people. Talk about a tough gig, live, one take start to finish. No re-dos, no trick video edits, or voice 'enhancements'. I don't remember if he sang it A cappella or not.
I sang myself for over a decade. A lot was A cappella in small groups. Everything was performed live. We didn't even use a pitch pipe or piano for starting note. When I hear vocalists like Josh, Peter, or Andrea Bocelli perform, I know how hard it is to perform at that level. I am a Baritone myself.

I played this song at my Moms funeral. It was one of her favorites. She passed away from Covid! I couldn’t even see her in the end because I too had Covid also! I had to say goodbye on on iPad! I took care of her for years before she passed and couldn’t even be there as she passed! I can’t listen to this song without crying! It’s so beautiful! ❤️

This may be the most beautiful rendition of this glorious tune ever rendered. That indescribable, gorgeous tone sung with such feeling. Love that Irish lilt in his voice. This is my favorite performance of this glorious performer. Period.

My first movie I saw was The Wizard Of Oz. I was 5 years old and I loved it. It would be on TV once a year and I never missed it. I'm 72 years old now and I still love this song. I've heard many people sing this song. There is no doubt in my mind. The way Josh sings this is just as lovely as when Judy Garland sang it.
