    This is exactly what I love about Magic The Gathering. It's not all about the money it's about the game, the nostalgia and the artwork. I enjoyed this video. Bring back memories and why I love this game so much

    I watch this probably once a year and still love it. Each time I laugh harder when he says the floor on an Alpha rare is $50-70. I wish I was still in the hobby then 😵‍💫 I wonder if he ever reveals the extent of his sealed position….

    I watched til 29 minutes in, to the end anyway. I really like the vintage alpha stuff more than anything in MTG. I started playing in 1994. So seeing all of these cards makes me feel like a kid again.

    Really cool to see all these alpha cards at once. Being a collecter myself I really appreciate it when I look at someones binder even if there is nothing for trade I like to see what people have and think that's really cool like this binder. Alpha cards are really cool. Also I recently traded for a revised wheel of fortune and I agree it definitely has some of the best artwork is the game :)

    "This is what Magic is to me, this is what it always will be and its never gonna change." - Me too, thank you for showing these off, I've been around since revised and they have just NEVER gotten back to the feeling and flavour of the original art where a thing just is what it is, even if its just a lance laying on a rock.
    There's no need for over the top neon dinosaurs flying through jungles with 40 different types of flowers and birds everywhere and 7 people screaming in the background while a pirate zip-lines down from a zeppelin on one card and then somehow its a Creature - Beetle card or something that should be absurdly stupid simple.

    Beautiful collection Rudy- I think many of your viewers believe you've only ever been into mtg for the financial aspects, but I've remained a sub since near the start due mainly to the fact that your passion for the game and these beautiful cards has been apparent since the beginning. Thanks for sharing.

    Beautiful collection as always Rudy. My friends and I got into MTG in 94 with Revised. We were just 1 year late from getting to enjoy ABU and the P9s we would only hear about for years to come. Such is life, but it's great to see such preservation from folks such as yourself so 25 years later we can see them in their splendor.

      I agree, like most of his videos. I came across Rudy when i was looking what my Booster Boxes (including Alpha, which is why his channel popped up first), Sets and Collection in general is worth now as i played MTG from 1994-2007 and when my local store closed in 1998 over here in Europe i bought up a lot from them (incl. Alpha, Unlimited Boxes), even i managed to learn a lot from his videos so far, especially regarding what to keep as Investment (I'll probably never sell some of these Booster Boxes) and how to take better care of my collection. Also the first time i found out about grading which i should do. Every video has great advice about what to take care of and hey, Creepy Rudy even made me lose interest in selling my booster/starter boxes, collection and so on. Can only rise in price!

    • @chartreux1532
      @chartreux1532 7 лет назад

      +Alpha InvestmentsIf it wasn't for you Rudy i would have probably put up the Alpha Box and others i got in 1998 from the local store that shut down and put it all on Ebay and then ended up getting a horrible price on every box, but now i know better and keep everything. Thanks! And also thanks for the storing advice! I got my Alphas in the same kind of setup, but while i pulled it when closing i never stored it upside down as you show at 4:02

      Ahivalaostia88 just yesterday I tossed a binder into a drawer lying flat rather than letting gravity draw the sheets away from the rings. Smh. I’ve been collecting for 20 years and I still make mistakes. His videos are indeed informative.

  • @TheUnic0rn
    @TheUnic0rn 7 лет назад +2

    One thing I don't think you touched on, was just how vibrant these cards are compared to later printings. Showing a side to side comparison with these Alpha cards, and the same card from Revised and Fourth would be an excellent way to show this. The vibrancy of a Revised Vesuvan Doppelganger has nothing on the Alpha version. Same holds true for an Alpha Air Elemental, just incredibly vibrant art.
    Also, while Psionic Blast is the only blue direct damage spell of note, but there is Psychic Purge. It's really best to combat discard strategies, and I always loved discarding it to a Hymn back in the day.
    Finally, I too have an affinity for Island Sanctuary. Years ago, I made a similar deck to the one you talked about were it turned multiple Howling Mine effects into a disadvantage.

    That was amazing, definitely brought back the memories asking my parents when going to the mall to buy alpha boosters from the game stores. When I got introduced to magic it was during unlimited and revised was starting. My first game I played was a tournament at buddies house. Also the first time I found out about ante. Lost my force of nature. 1 st place won Ring of Immortals. I’m 37 now and own entire sheets of every ring. Nothing beats the old artwork. Favorite definitely the Ring of immortals and ring of Maruf

    Nice video, brings back lots of good memories. Only Alpha cards I have currently are a few hundred low demand C & UC. I bought a couple of alpha starter decks in late 2004. I got 2 for $1K, from the infamous Rob D. I use to sell a lot of Alpha cards on eBay back in 2003-2008, some graded, some not ( my ID was Strictly-Magic). Anyways, I opened them one night after having a few to many beers. I remember one of my rares was a Island lol. I have a lot of stories I bet you would have a unique understanding of.

    I loved the video showing your Antiquities collections, and I loved this one. Show us more of your beautiful cards!
    I agree, the uncomfortable and raw artwork makes the old cards special. They don't have the guts to do that again. They like putting too much detail in a tiny illustration, and it all gets watered down.

  • @MMKMoore1
    @MMKMoore1 7 лет назад

    I like seeing what you're personally interested in, what you like or dislike. For my cards in regular binders, I use page lifters to keep the pages from getting pinched in the rings. They work really well. I also use report covers to store my complete sets (I'm one of those from back in the day), so no risk of ring ding at all. 2.4% represent!

    Rudy when you started talking about Birds of Paradise it reminded me of friend I meet playing Dark Age of Camelot in 05-06. He was commenting on one of my character's named Sengir Vampire. So we talked talking about MTG and he told me a story about what he did with his alpha/beta Birds of Paradise. He would would tape a firecracker to his birds, light them, throw them in the air, and watch them blow up. He said he hated Birds of Paradise that why he like to watch them blow up. Then after he told me this story I told him that those cards are worth alot of money now. At the time I think the cards were somewhere between $100-$200 not sure the exact price. When I told him this he flipped out that he blow up cards worth alot of money. He stopped PVPing for the rest of the night after this conversation.

    So true about the art. Even around Weatherlight saga, when they had style bibles for the sets, there was individual artistic style from card to card. The current art direction is very refined but probably 80% monotonal. Thankfully luminaries like Guay and Nielsen are still producing.
