    ricky,next time you jump in this,press the traction button once and it'll put you into comfort traction mode.Everything remains in comfort,but the valves are strangely opened,you're allowed more slip to the rear than sport mode and the power delivery is smoother/less laggy than sport.It's basically a comfort version of sport+

The bushings would securely locate the rear axle to the car, giving you a more direct connection and feeling of what the rear of the car is doing, especially at speed. I’d also recommend a limited slip differential if you don’t have one, they go hand in hand.

    Coming from a Scirocco R the M140 feels great, I have no complaints with it in stock form, perfect daily and comfortable for long journeys.

  • @ShogunsDojo
    @ShogunsDojo 2 года назад +92

    Ricky’s comments are spot on as usual, clumsy is the exact word to describe the handling in stock form. I run a manual M240i and in standard form, whilst I loved the engine the chassis did not impress at all but it’s an excellent base for upgrades. I’ve put an LSD and suspension on it as well as M3 control arms and lower offset wheels to finish it off. Car handles so much better now, so much more focused and direct. Never driven an M2 so I can’t compare it but the car now delivers on that small performance car promise BMW marketed it with. Just need some subframe reinforcement and I think I’ll have a real weapon in my hands. For the money these things are unbeatable.

    • @1993j
      @1993j 2 года назад +2

      I did the LCA and diff also, now I know where the back and front of the car is, it's a complete game changer in confidence with the car. Just wish i got a manual, potentially trade in this year and get rid of my auto 🥲

    • @ShogunsDojo
      @ShogunsDojo 2 года назад +1

      @@1993j nah the auto is valid. I’m at stock power and unless I’m on perfect form I’ll can’t keep up with the turbo all wheel drive hatches. It feels pretty cool to shift myself though and makes the car seem more oldschool than it really is.
      You’re absolutely right about the control arms, so much feel along with sharper more positive turn in, zero understeer on the road and proper self centering.

  • @Duncan94
    @Duncan94 2 года назад +47

    Ricky, I see your driving the 140 in traction or DSC OFF mode - unless you've got an LSD please be careful, that amount of torque through an open diff without systems on ends one way.

    • @carmad1287
      @carmad1287 2 года назад +7

      An open diff is actually safer than an LSD in terms of not spitting you off the road.
      Harder to control than an LSD when it lets go BUT safer as it doesent send all its power to both wheels so you tend to still have one rear wheel with traction.
      I have the LSD, it steps out EASIER in my opinion than open diff, its just easier to control it.

    I felt it needed more power, so mines running 455bhp/634nm now, and for a daily I think that's plenty.
    1st thing I do after I start (and thank fk I got the start/stop coded out so it's switched off as default, man that was annoying), is hold the traction control button down and turn everything off.
    I hated the throttle in sport+ mode it was like an on/off switch. MUCH better to drive it in traction off mode, as the throttle pedal reverts to comfort mode.
    You still get the stiffer steering and suspension though (if you have adaptive like mine).

      l thought the same. Its not an affordable car for most people . I earn more then the average wage a year and still wouldn't spend £400 a month on a car.. by the time you've payed insurance, running cost and maintenance your easily at £600 a month.. that's approximately 30% the average wage then you have living expenses at 50% your average wage in London and all of a sudden your living on 20% of your income. I know its priorities and everyone's different..

      @ArcticRob 2 года назад +1

      @@CharlieboySLONDON I own an m140i and pay 280pm for the car (but I put down a large deposit), 70pm for insurance, 200 pm for fuel and £13 pm for road tax. My major service is coming up and that's £550 and tyres are £110 each corner. So basically yeah it's not cheap really.

    Anybody with adaptive dampers on these and changed to Bilsteins B8’s, did you find it made much of a difference? Other than the worst surfaced roads mine feels pretty solid apart from traction at the rear lets go under acceleration. I’ve never felt this floaty sensation moving about. Debating whether it’s worth the change for adaptive but, I hear for passive it’s night and day. Stage 2+ manual 3 door, loving it! Power flex bushes and the underbody brace should make a big difference I’m told.
