Its my personal preference to not completely cover a circle hook. This allows me to be more consistent with hooking fish

I use shrimp most of the time. No trouble with it coming off the hook. Except when a fish bites it.

I put garlic powder on shrimp and let it sit overnight. The catfish tear it up. They can't resist it
