    Its limited to 5 prompts per chat/reply although it lets you chat after the limit but it gets confused after the limit and suggests to start a new chat then you have to input what you want it to do on the previoues chat which will then spend 1 or 2 of the 5 reply limit, I'm using pro version btw.

      I’m really trying to understand your definition of clickbait.
      The thumbnail implies he’s switching from code pilot to something else. (Yes, because he’s being paid, but he elaborated by saying it’s better than the other.)
      What was your interpretation? 🤔
      However, he lost me when he took a database he knew that was well-documented and acted like it was helpful in explaining the application. I would have preferred if he tried it on something without a readme.

    hum, most pro developers don't really care about chat with AI !
    They are more concerned with IntelliSense and context auto-suggestions during coding flow.
    I just like to code, and copilot understand what I am doing, I just need to use the tab key in most cases!
    That's the productivity I'm looking for.
    All other features are a bonus but not a priority for me, and for now copilot doing the job.

    • @ado
      @ado 8 месяцев назад +4

      Hey - I am in the same boat. Cody context-awareness is also available for the code completions. The chat is super helpful, but most of my uses are for completions and Cody does much better there for me. (disclaimer: I do work for Sourcegraph)

    • @plutack
      @plutack 8 месяцев назад

      From the perspective of someone on training wheels, if this does have "better awareness" this might be of better use for me. I currently don't have copilot autocomplete/suggestions on as i feel that would hinder learning . Even with the newly added @workspace context i still find myself extracting code snippets and taking to chatgpt when i have a need to

    • @Learnbynet
      @Learnbynet 8 месяцев назад +6

      @@plutack sure, Copilote is not recommended for your children or if you are just starting to learn.
      It is really interesting in Research and Development or if you are an experienced dev.
      It is a productivity tool, not a tool to code for you.
      It is like having a colleague by your side who enriches your ideas.
      In strongly typed languages, it is very effective!

      @ThomySTB 8 месяцев назад +2

      Absolutely agree on this. The best way to use tools like copilot for me is the telepathy-like intellisense. It just saves tiny chunks at a time that build up to quite a lot of time saved. Also repetetive code snippets such as defining some variables are a dream. However I do have a use case of the chat side of things. Sometimes you just have this feeling that what you wrote, could be done in a better way. So then I ask, "I feel like this can be done in a better way". Sometimes the answer is good, sometimes it is horrible. But for half of the time it works, such things can save you lot's of headaches and time later on.

    I've tried it, but not convinced. At least the auto code suggestions are missing or not working as good as Copilot, and I feel that those are accelerating me. I've tried the chat as well, most of the time it just messed up the code (inserted the suggestion at wrong position), or used not existing variables, or generated wrong code. In summary, it is working as in your video, but Copilot is far better. Also, it triggered me to look around again, thanks. :)

    It would be nice if the /smell feature cited specific lines. It tends to give a vague reference to something to change but doesn't give any indication as to where it saw the issue. It does reference the name of the method but, not always. I saw one instance where it was suggesting that I use the string builder instead of concatenation but, I didn't see what it was talking about in my code. I thought maybe it had dug deeper into referenced files but I really couldn't find what it was talking about.

    Copilot i used for a long time, tried bunch of other ai assistant for the whole 2023. Finally i unsubscribe from copilot 😊 . The best thing on cody is if you give access to the code base or code repo you have, after a minute when it finishes indexing, the real powers come out. It does not only become the most senior programmer on that specific code base but also take the role of project manager. Going wrong with any project is very hard with it. The only downwards of it i found is documentaion of usage is not that good and most people mistook it as another copilot alternatives. 😂. Sourcegraph team did really a good job on intellisense way better with multiple hats on like wizard coder, senior programmer and project manager.

    The more I see people use tools like this, the more I can see devs losing what little code debugging/design skills they have or not getting the practice in developing those skills to begin with. Code completion is one thing but this just reeks of copy/pasting stack overflow to me. There might be a place for this in PoC work where you want to skip a lot of the boilerplate but to turn this into production code, if you didnt already have solid understanding of code and coding practices, you would just be creating a mess for someone to clean up later.

      Check the "Generate an Embeddings Index" section of the docs. My reading of it is that free users ought to be able to index 200MB of code, Pro users up to 1G of code, and enterprise - {all}G - The extension mentions a "desktop app" that supposedly creates a local index out of private repo, but the download links don't work.
      Sure seems like an early-alpha stage product, but it is very promising, and the vscode extension is OSS, so in theory the ability to create projects in vscode is within reach of a few talented dev's and their magic pull requests.

    The funny part about these new AI tools is that its learning from you the entire time while you're using it. Sure, its useful, but it will replace your job one day. That day is getting closer and closer.

      Most Ai assistents are not available for Visual Studio only for VS Code, I have worked 25+ years with Visual Studio but recently beginning to understand that it might become obsolete in the future and all new enhanchedments are made in VS Code instead but with DevExpress the difference between is no longer as big as it used to be, still it takes some time getting used to tho
