    Not a tree climber, but what an amazing demonstration with simple equipment. Needed this to set a camping tarp ridgeline higher without a ladder. Thanks for your humble presentation.

    I've built a similar system out of predator rope, but it's not as easy as it looks to climb. I got a crotch full of tree the first time i tried it. Leaning trees are no fun! If you mess around and let that top tether drop down over the lower one and lose control of it, you're in a world of do-do!

    Hi Jerry. Greetings from Northern Ontario, Canada. Could you tell me, how important is it to use full bury rope? Is there any other option, such as up sizing diameter? Is there a way I could make my own full bury rope? Can’t find any videos on how to do this. Would really love to go to a light weight system like yours. This old guy is getting tired of lugging heavy packs through the bush.

    • @jerrygrose468

      There is a 2" wide elastic band that keeps it in place. I walk in with it on and it doesn't budge

  • @jetpilot555

    I like it so far except one thing: You keep doing and undoing the left foot on the loop. That is too much trouble especially in the dark going both up and down. How do you improve the system so you don't have to do that?

    • @jerrygrose468
      @jerrygrose468  3 года назад

      I've tried it with keeping my foot in the loop. Used a castration band to hold it there. Found that I actually loose a few inches each move and since my hands are free, its no problem to slip the loop on my foot.

    • @jetpilot555
      @jetpilot555 3 года назад

      @@jerrygrose468 I think the tether line for the left foot needs to be longer maybe waist height same length as your legs. Then you only need to bend your left knee when you move the tether from waist to shoulder height. Just my 2c

    I can't comprehend what is the benefit of a leg loop over a second foot loop. Can anyone enlighten me?

    • @jerrygrose468
      @jerrygrose468  3 года назад +1

      Its personal choice. Ive tried 2 foot loops, but when you stand in the bottom one, the top one is put pretty tight to the tree, making it hard to get your foot into. The leg loop gives you about a half step of height and adds a lot of stability since its connected to your main tether.

  • @randyhoover283

    Nice setup. How do you deal with cold weather though? I generally wear minimalist clothing on the hike in but often hunt in below freezing temps - the leg strap would need to be pretty big to fit over the fanatic bibs and couldn't be worn in. Perhaps an adjustable strap could be added instead of the elastic?

    • @jerrygrose468
      @jerrygrose468  2 года назад +1

      Sure! The elastic is really there FOR the walk in. If carrying in, you could simply put the elastic behind your thigh for the climb

    looks like an accident waiting to happen when you need to wrap your leg around the tree to raise your support line.

    • @jerrygrose468
      @jerrygrose468  3 года назад +2

      Well, "Accident waiting to happen" applies to every climbing method we use brother, so, no argument there. The " leg hook" is to provide stability, and isnt needed since your weight is being supported by the aider, much like it is with any aider/climbing stick combo. I certianly trust my leg over a DIY cam cleat or rope mod that I have no control over. But, as stated in many videos, risk is assumed at the user level. Do what your comfortable with.

    • @klayvonisme
      @klayvonisme 3 года назад +1

      @@jerrygrose468 I agree. What you're doing is still far more safe than some of the methods I've used in the past. I've been climbing around in tree stands for 40 years and never once wore a safety harness, so it looks like I'm the fool here. I'm going to watch your video again, give it a thumbs up and subscribe as I have much to learn. Best of luck to you in all you do.
