Thanks for the great flashback, 1986 was a fantastic year in music! Through your video I learned that 'If I Ruled the World' by Nas from the 90s was actually a remake, I had no idea!
End 1985 and beginning 1986 were fantastic. A-ha, go west, Ray parker, Whitney, starship, Wham, Madonna, James Brown, Billy océan (thé better song from him), acdc, talk talk, level 42, sting, Eurythmics, bronski beat, Mr mister, pet shop boys, dire straits,...
How did you not know that, where are you from? And also it has been mentioned many many times in interviews, Documetaries that it was released as a single with this classic music video!
@@mikekaraoke I was really young when this album came out and I only remember hearing take on me but my older sister had bought the cassette and that’s how I knew all the songs on Hunting high and low. I am from the United States
Anybody know? Was borderline from Madonna re-released in the UK after the success of the like a virgin album? Did it originally only chart in the USA in 1983?
When the re-released ‘Borderline’ dropped out of the top 40 during March 1986, it was the first top 40 chart since June 1985 without any Madonna single - for 9 months solid there was at least one Madonna song in there, in fact there were even 3 of her songs in the top 40 at one stage in autumn 1985
Many great songs in this chart - a couple of all-time faves of mine like 'The Power of Love' by Jennifer Rush, 'West End Girls' by Pet Shop Boys. I can't listen to 'How Will I Know' without my aunty butchering it lol. 'Ring of Ice' is kind of apt with the bitter late Jan and February (one of the coldest ever here) the UK had that winter. I'd take this era now (even if I was only 14 months then) musically over now. I just find the charts open to manipulation now.
It was the most diversified decade to date (1980's) for music. Whitney Houston, Madonna, Aretha Franklin, Michael Jackson, Grace Jones, etc.. did very well on British charts and the British invasion came through to the "States" as well with Elton John, Wham, Bronski Beat, Pet Shop Boys, Duran Duran, etc... A great decade of many, many types of music to enjoy.
En la de junio de 1986 estaría "Too Good To Be Forgotten" con todas las de la ley. Porque fue una de las 5 canciones más escuchadas en el Reino Unido en esas fechas
"I hope the Russians love their children too." Well, Sting, considering just how many young Russian conscripts are being sent to the meat grinder that is the Ukrainian front line, it would appear not. Also, Aretha Franklin's song at number 11 is worryingly prescient... What did she know about COVID-19 and "stay at home" orders? We need to know.
@@mikekaraoke I agree with you! The only song I probably not keen on is the Nana Mouskiori one, but she has a market for her music and she had every right to be in the charts as much anyone else.
Good chart most of it, except for Paul McCartney and Level 42. Can't stand that Leaving Me Now song but most of their others are good. As for HIM, nope, never liked the prat

This list is like a Swedish buffet - diverse, colourful, tasteful - and you can never get enough of the stuff.....
Good description.
Hätte es nicht schöner schreiben können. Vielen Dank.

Ugh. I love “ the sun always shines on TV”. I didn’t know that was a single. Let alone number 1 song”

Yeah. It was released in the UK in June 1984 but failed to chart on that occasion. This re-release got to number 2

And other areas interplayed on both charts and British/American hits landed on their charts too.

16 of 50 songs were not terrible, -that's not too bad!
I disagree with you, I thought none of them were terrible!
