    why is everyone hating on this kid ? it’s 2 strikes, you HAVE to protect the plate , he was gonna get ready to swing until he didn’t realize the ball was coming at his face. it’s not like he was trying to get hit , he didn’t have time to get out of the way.

    At 69 MPH he has less than a half of a second to react to the pitch coming from 46 feet away. He knows what to do. But, he's 12. Even MLB players don't always see the ball correctly.

    Two things:
    The batter had already committed to swinging; that's why he had opened up. It would have been impossible to turn away from the pitch at that time. If you've ever played baseball, you would know that.
    If the umpire said it was a ball, it was a ball. There is no technical subjectivity in baseball.

    I live in Australia, my little sister and brother have played rookie ball (under12s) and are now in Under 14s and its compulsory for ALL players (male/female - outfielder/1st base/pitcher etc) to wear boxes/cups..... if a player is busted not wearing one the umpire can call the game

    He didn't swing, actually. The umpire said he didn't swing, which means it isn't a strike. It's COMPLETELY up to the umpire's JUDGMENT on whether the batter swung or not. There is no rule on what a swing is.

    In that situation he probably lost sight of it and at that age the instinct to keep turning until it was back in his field of vision likely felt more natural than trying to avoid something he couldn't see. One of those times where keeping your eye on the ball is a bad idea.

    that radar gun measures speed out of the hand and is reported as-is. depending on who you believe, the equivalent to 60.5' mound distance for a 69 mph pitch from 46' is about 90-91 mph. it is a rough comparison of reaction time. e.g. from 46' your available reaction time to a 70 mph pitch is the same as your available reaction time to a 91 mph pitch from 60.5'. it is not a generally accepted comparison--there is lots of debate as to whether it is a valid measure at all.

    I was pitching last year and I threw an inside fastball and hid jammed it straight into his nose, it was broken and he was bleeding EVERYWHERE. First injury I ever saw in baseball besides a few knicks. I've now seen 3 in a year(that one, my teammate breaking his ankle on a slide, and I broke my nose on a line drive), after seeing 0 in my first 10+ years of playing lol

    Sports injuries can be horrendus, when I was 13 I took a liner at second base off my lower jaw/mouth area, I spit up blood and teeth and played on till inning's end, within minutes the shock left my body and pain came I had a broken jaw, these injuries can really be bad. Thankfully it seems this kid was lucky since after a bit he was mobile of his face

  • @dasdrifter12
    @dasdrifter12 11 лет назад

    Wasn't a swing, according to the umpire. Swings are judgement calls, there is no written rule on what is a swing, but most umpires go by if the bat crosses the plate, which it didn't.

  • @pguns044
    @pguns044 12 лет назад

    With less than a second of reaction time, any human being would have trouble avoiding it. Knowledge doesn't really come into play, that kid knows not to lean into it, but there's simply not enough time to think about it.
