These people are obviously poor - many don't even have shoes. While I agree the waterways should not be used as their waste disposal, I seriously doubt there is enough money to support a municipal waste management program. While American waterways are by no means free of garbage, they're a lot cleaner thanks to waste management and environmental protections. We should be thankful we have the means to have those things and maybe be a little less judgy of the poor people in this video.

Yeah I can't understand why extremely poor people with no running water, electricity or education, living in shacks made of garbage dont make littering a priority!? Most here are probably more worried about how to feed their families and hope the water they drink or bath in doesn't make them sick or die. A quantidade de crianças em volta e dentro dessa água suja, ficar doente aí é muito fácil, deu dó de ver como tratam a chegada das águas que saciam a sede e traz vida em um ambiente tão repleto de lixo. What ever happened to decency and respect for the ground we live on? Anyone there ever here of the “Leave no trace.” Rule? It means, to leave the space as you found it. Natural and clean. I wonder how many famines happen here. How many diseases and outbreaks? Look at the space around you, if you put it there, clean it up. If you find something that doesn’t belong, pick it up.
People do take extraordinary risks. I had to wade down a flooded street one day. The water was "only" knee-deep but the force of it was terrifyingly powerful and it was a real struggle to keep my feet. People can drown in shallower water than that.

I can't believe that people walk where all the trash is/was, and not clean it up. They are so used to it, like it belongs there.

People do take extraordinary risks. I had to wade down a flooded street one day. The water was "only" knee-deep but the force of it was terrifyingly powerful and it was a real struggle to keep my feet. People can drown in shallower water than that.
