The new backdrop made me feel like I was in your office having a casual conversation about watches. When Tim was listing specific authors and brands I was waiting for him to point to examples on the shelf. Keep up the good work guys.
Thank you for supporting our channel - and our new backdrop! It really was the furniture in my office (and still is), and a light went off in my head when I realized how much cooler the display was than our background. Best, Tim
I think this background is a lot better! I think all of us viewers appreciate the fact that you all took our trolling of the old set with grace and set something new up, even if temporary, as a gesture to show your appreciation of the viewer base...Class act guys!.. and of course great video! Thanks for the tips/information as usual.. We love to be fed
Neuro, we take the comments seriously, we want to make sure all our viewers enjoy the content :) Thanks for the kind words and of course, for watching! Federico
This is great stuff. I can see that adding Federico into your team is rapidly becoming one hell of a move. I am getting a bit bored with the other watch channels especially The Urban Gentry, I need more advanced stuff like this. One thing though I think you need to add more images and references when you guys drop some names or brands or watch types etc. I wish there was someone discussing Japanese watches as deep as this.
I just bought a vintage Zenith "Surf" Blue Dial from the 70s at a great price. There are certainly great deals to be had. On the lower end you can certainly spot the redials from a mile away. You guys forgot to mention online sellers from particular countries to look out for. Vintage watches sold from India or the Philippines instantly raise red flags for me. A lot of frankenwatches out of those countries.
I love it. My favorite pass time is flipping vintage watches. I've been lucky to turn some nice profits... I would love to have my own business one day. Nice backdrop by the way! Definitely an improvement.
Man Tim those glasses, a true classic on this channel. Used to hate them now I love them! You're wearing a JLC Master Moon with biker glasses LOL, sick!
Love what Federico brings to the channel. To be honest, I found the previous WUW videos a bit too long. And without theme, it's harder to view. And, looking forward to TGV as guest talking in your shows, it must be interesting if it can happen!
Thanks Peter! This was a longtime part of my office, and we started wondering how we could possibly get rid of the wooden wall that everyone hated... and then I realized the answer was looking straight at me. It's a trophy shelf of mementos from my years as a collector and time at Watchuwant. Best, Tim
I'm so sick of people complaining about the back drop! I subscribe to this channel because I share the same passion as Tim and Fed. Who cares what's behind them. These guys deserve better than critics complaining about the things that don't matter. Both of these men are taking the time to educate us on how not to make big mistakes when purchasing vintage, and all some individuals can focus in on is the background?? Very small! Tim and Fed, stay the course, and thank you for your hard work.
Well, while I'm in the deep love with recently purchased Glenmorangie 18, I have to admit - I've been a fun of Knob Creek for years. Very nice bourbon for the price no matter what snobs would say! Thank you for the nice information guys - you deliver as always. Personally would not risk to go vintage - scared of Frankenstein movements.
I had a friend from PuristS Pro show me how to get "the good stuff" from all the brand reps at SIHH. Seriously, that's an eight-pound book and a major SIHH trophy each year. Best, Tim
Tim, you're obsessed with JLC and I need ti know why, and I'm sure I'm not alone, so how about a video re: JLC. As a matter of fact why not all brands ????? Might be interesting content ?
I promise you this. I'll be adding to my JLC collection this year, and you're correct that some kind of explanation is in order. I hope to do it in a way that speaks to collectors so that viewers can relate my passion to the way they see their own favorites. Best, Tim
I have not had a positive experience with vintage watches. The photos were amazing but the strap was flimsy. The watch also wore MUCH smaller than what I expected. I was fortunate enough to sell all but one.
Thanks for the video guys. I was always under the impression that especially with Tritium lume the hands and dial don’t age similarly and that lume on the dial develops more patina since there is generally less tritium applied to the dial compared to the hands. It is a marginal difference but still noticeable. What is your opinion Fed?
hi Tim and Fed, I own a 5513 from 1976 but has a service dial from the late 80s. My question is, is it worth me trying to source a 1976 dial make it whole again ? so to speak. Thanks great show guys.
It will be a very expensive dial to source. But in my opinion YES! The 5513 is a watch who's value resides mainly in the dial... Just my two cents... Federico
I am curious to know the percentage of frankenwatches that you come across at WUW. Is it a common thing to see a 15 or 20 year old Rolex, for example, come in and you find it in an "altered" state?
It's something we only see on older watches. Anything post-2000 that isn't correct is likely a counterfeit, and I bust those quick. The real challenge is catching an older watch that's a "franken" made from real parts in the wrong combination. Watches suspected of franken-status always go to me and Mike Michaels for close scrutiny before we decide whether or not to accept the watch. Best, Tim
T. & F. I found a Hamilton Masterpiece electric 1970 - 72 14k solid gold for 699.00 the jeweler said he serviced it, but wasn't specific, the watch was running, is there anything I should ask him? is the price reasonable? thanks in advance!
T, you're talking too hard a line on vintage. If you're satisfaction is based on nothing more than being current, grabbing the trends of immediate gratification surrounding new and recent markets, and not interested in provenance you'll never gain the longer satisfaction of patiently waiting, hunting and bagging an intact, authentic and historic time piece. If you're satisfied with driving a '78 911 SC with a different carb, who is to say one can't enjoy that? As to prudence, well, caveat emptor in all things. Much improved set and sound, too!
I hope the permanent new set is a lot better than this one, which is worse than the old one (which wasn't that bad in my opinion). This is much too busy, and you're too close to it.
So basically Tim is with JLC like me with Rolex? Vintage world of watches is scary world. This video will certainly help many, but I would always advise not to enter this world without significant experience and knowledge
True, this is an introduction, not the last word. Vintage requires years of firsthand experience with the "real thing" for any given brand; you cannot be an authority in a vintage brand (and it does require BRAND-specific experience, not jut general vintage knowledge) without seeing examples of frankenwatches, counterfeits, and REALLY GOOD re-dials. It's an ongoing journey even for those of us with experience. Best, Tim
The more a channel grows, the more it attracts the occasional troll; they add up. We had very few dislikes in the past, but when you're clearing 180,000 views per week, some folks just gotta hate... Best, Tim
And a cal 214 Accutron Spaceview from '74. But there's more JLC on the way, and I plan to make the search an occasional part of our features. Best, Tim
seriously folks, great video and all, but i wouldnt bother with vintage watches, its just a minefield. save the bother and heartache and buy new from your ad. on a related note, i visited my rolex ad today, who advised me that he has heard straight from rolex that a gmt coke dial is going to be released in the next week or so, and to keep an eye on the rolex website.
Hi Federico great to see you getting on well here in watchuwant and I must say it's one of the best watch youtube channels out there..! I love Tim's reviews on the wrist videos too. Have fun guys, Rich Lennie the UFO guy from U.K.
The seller is EVERYTHING. Always buy vintage from someone who will stand behind the product. Especially if you do not have experience in vintage. Federico
HEY GUYS, LOVE YOUR VIDEOS, HAVE A QUESTION, WHAT DO YOU THINK OF A JLC MASTER COMPRESSOR EXTREME CHRONO WORLD TIME? ITS $6500 A GOOD PRICE FOR A USED ONE IN GOOD CONDITION? I WAS SAVING FOR BUYING MY FIRST PANERAI THAT I LOVE BUT THIS JLC IS CRAZY GOOD LOOKING, BUT DONT KNOW MUCH ABOUTE THE CRAFSTMANSHIP, REGARDS FROM ECUADOR!!
something is wrong with the camera focus... It looks like the camera is focused on on Tim's shirt collar. Both Fed and Tim's faces are slightly out of focused.
great video, but besides all the care, if you do your work and buy from a real trusted seller, you can also get a ton of a watch for crazy prices, just like the Federicos's Omega
You are talking watches being serviced by others than the factory ???, every time you send a Patek for service , it will return almost factory sealed, a watch recently serviced even though is vintage should have a higher value that one that has not...
Service of a modern watch is one matter; modifications to original fabric of vintage watches is different. Vintage watches that have been "refinished" of case or dial often have a stigma attached when this work is performed, especially if an original dial is removed, refinished, or altered to look "newer" or "better." Collectors generally vintage watches to vintage watch service specialists so that this never happens. Best, Tim
The new backdrop made me feel like I was in your office having a casual conversation about watches. When Tim was listing specific authors and brands I was waiting for him to point to examples on the shelf. Keep up the good work guys.

A most informative discussion gentlemen. Keep up the great work. I agree -the best watch review channel on RUclips
Tim, your humor is great! And I really like the new setup, and sound is better, too! Keep up the great work.
Common sense often does it, also with vintage watches. Thanks for the nice video
I have learned a lot from this video, thank You guys!
Glad you found the info useful Stefaan. Thanks for watching.
Federico
I love it. My favorite pass time is flipping vintage watches. I've been lucky to turn some nice profits... I would love to have my own business one day. Nice backdrop by the way! Definitely an improvement.
Big improvement! As attention to detail type of guys (as all of us watch guys are) this was a great change. Keep up the good work!
You guys are fast becoming the best watch channel on RUclips
Tahnk you Scott! We are certainly trying to step up our game.
Federico
Man Tim those glasses, a true classic on this channel. Used to hate them now I love them! You're wearing a JLC Master Moon with biker glasses LOL, sick!

loving the new backdrop gentlemen....I did notice the tilt in your shades Tim.
Thanks Peter! This was a longtime part of my office, and we started wondering how we could possibly get rid of the wooden wall that everyone hated... and then I realized the answer was looking straight at me. It's a trophy shelf of mementos from my years as a collector and time at Watchuwant.

Great video guys! Thanks for the tips, looking for a vintage Seamaster for my dad's 50th soon.

great knowledge base between these two guys!
Great Video!!!!! I love the hat in the background! Keep up the great work!
Thanks man! Much appreciated.
Federico
Looking forward to many more Tim and Fed videos....:)
Where did you get that Panerai poster on the top shelf?
I had a friend from PuristS Pro show me how to get "the good stuff" from all the brand reps at SIHH. Seriously, that's an eight-pound book and a major SIHH trophy each year.
Best,
Tim
Best duo on RUclips!!
Great tips, thanks guys.
Smooth save there at the end Federico, I mean Tim!
Often imitated, never duplicated ;-)
Best,
Tim
You guys are doing a great job, always fascinating and your shared knowledge man are you guys good!!
Glad you enjoyed it and got something out of it Roger.
Federico
great video guys!!
Thanks for the great advice.

I hope you acquire your entire wish list, legit I'm just curious and interested and would enjoy the video.
It is very useful. Thank you!
Hey Federico do you still have your Tourneau moonphase? I just watched your review and I really like it!
Hi Alex,
Yup I still have it. I wear it for dressier occasions.
Federico
I have not had a positive experience with vintage watches. The photos were amazing but the strap was flimsy. The watch also wore MUCH smaller than what I expected. I was fortunate enough to sell all but one.
I love you guys. Cool new background.
Hi guys. What's the name of that Panerai brouchure/book on the top left with a PAM112 on the front?
Thumbs up for the new studio. Although it looks like you are almost sitting in the shelves.
what about the bezel? Can you replace the bezel with a similar bezel from the same era/age and not lose value?
great video, thanks
Thanks for the video guys. I was always under the impression that especially with Tritium lume the hands and dial don’t age similarly and that lume on the dial develops more patina since there is generally less tritium applied to the dial compared to the hands. It is a marginal difference but still noticeable. What is your opinion Fed?
I am not sure if this is the case... Ill consult with Tim and see if he knows more about this than I do.
Federico
hi Tim and Fed, I own a 5513 from 1976 but has a service dial from the late 80s. My question is, is it worth me trying to source a 1976 dial make it whole again ? so to speak. Thanks great show guys.

Marktuyet So if it's original, and in good working order, then the price is reasonable?
I have that JLC hat in the background! I am Legend! haha
So what's the next JLC Tim???
I love Hodinkee!!!
Is the purpose of this video to direct us to purchase used and vintage through WatchUWant? Otherwise, the market seems pretty daunting.
is it all good if the dial was refinished by the actual manufacturer?
+christopher santosusso yes and no. Original is always best.
Federico
gotcha, thanks
Tim reminds me of Parker from gold rush hehe

set needs more light
I did think it was filmed in a basement..
Knob Creek.....really?
Why so many dislikes?
Meh... It happens... Thanks for watching Brandon!
Federico
Brandon Rebuck like or dislike. It's an interaction with the video. So even a bad thing is a bonus to casters as it bumps them up the search list.
The more a channel grows, the more it attracts the occasional troll; they add up. We had very few dislikes in the past, but when you're clearing 180,000 views per week, some folks just gotta hate...
Best,

Have anything other than JLCs in your collection, Tim? Bahahahaha
I know for a fact he has an Omega and a Swatch as well ;)
Federico
And a cal 214 Accutron Spaceview from '74. But there's more JLC on the way, and I plan to make the search an occasional part of our features.
Best,
Tim
seriously folks, great video and all, but i wouldnt bother with vintage watches, its just a minefield. save the bother and heartache and buy new from your ad. on a related note, i visited my rolex ad today, who advised me that he has heard straight from rolex that a gmt coke dial is going to be released in the next week or so, and to keep an eye on the rolex website.
"I'M TIM" - Federico 2017
Vintage is a minefield. If you don't know what you're doing eventually YOU ARE going to get burned.
This is true. Rolex won't even pass judgement on the originality of its own vintage watches: too much liability.
Best,
Tim
love the make swiss made great again hat
Hi Federico great to see you getting on well here in watchuwant and I must say it's one of the best watch youtube channels out there..! I love Tim's reviews on the wrist videos too. Have fun guys, Rich Lennie the UFO guy from U.K.
Buying vintage just makes me worry too much. If I were to go vintage would get it from someone like t and h or HODINKEE.
The seller is EVERYTHING. Always buy vintage from someone who will stand behind the product. Especially if you do not have experience in vintage.

It looks like Wayne and Garth went to Ikea.

something is wrong with the camera focus...
That lume trick with the hands and the dial is such a great trick thanks guys!
My pleasure Edward.Hope it comes in handy!
Federico
The best way to actually value a vintage watch?
You are talking watches being serviced by others than the factory ???, every time you send a Patek for service , it will return almost factory sealed, a watch recently serviced even though is vintage should have a higher value that one that has not...
