- A planner slump occurs when you feel unmotivated to use your planner. In this video, I'm going to suggest five reasons for planner slumps and what you can do about them.
Reason 1 (00:20): Planner system is unsuitable for you
Reason 2 (02:05): You're too busy to use your planner system
Reason 3 (03:31): You're bored with your planner system
Reason 4 (05:06): You're a perfectionist
Reason 5 (06:14): You really don't need a planner

"My life is not pretty so why does my planner have to be" those are good words to remember, thank you!
=) So glad to hear that that resonated with you!
Exactly my thought. I'm sitting here half-convincing myself that I need to overhaul my planning system but this video-and quote-helped A LOT. Thank you!
Yeah! I love looking at the beautiful planner pages on social media and sometimes I do mimic other people's style... But too much of that can backfire and land us in planner slump or even planner burnout zone!
thank you for addressing an issue that sometimes gets overlooked or isn’t addressed! i feel i have a little bit of boredom and perfectionism, however, I find being a little creative while keeping my tasks/appointments in front of me allows me to take time out of a busy routine and just breath. I’m constantly on a computer, so whenever i have or make time to write anything down, i really take my time! as always, your videos are important gems of knowledge and reflection. 💕
Hehe, someone recently asked me in my IG post where I get the motivation to continue planning so I thought I'd make a video response! =D I totally agree about planners being creative outlets! (But sometimes, I think I spend too much time on them and not enough time on my work =P)
...You have a very different idea of what constitutes "super messy" than I do.
Hehehe, beauty (and messiness) in the eye of the beholder? =P
I discovered your channel yesterday and I love that you have so many useful and practical ideas. It makes a refreshing change from just watching people decorate their planners with lots of stickers.
Hi Samantha! I'm glad you enjoy my videos! If you like functional planners, then may I recommend Brandy Michelle Plans's and Antonisha La'Shay's channels? They have some really useful videos =)
Great post Yukiko! Im also a functional planner in a A5 Hobonichi spending 95% of my planning time in the weekly view (with a few glances to the monthly view). Whenever i start feeling stale about planning, i end up putting the planner down and mind dump in a pocket size notebook (Fieldnotes) only. It resets my mind out of schedule/task oriented thinking into a more conceptual more free-thinking state. It gives me a fresh set of eyes when i get back to the planner. I feel that you can spend too much time in scheduling and planning.
I fully agree! We can spend too much time in scheduling and planning mode! I like mind dumping too--I sometimes think that that's kinda like Konmari-ing my brain. Dump everything onto paper and then figure out how to organize by themes =P
Very helpful video, thanks!
This is so timely for me! I’m a bit restless because I need to do the difficult work to refine my system. The planner guru does it again!
Yay! Glad this came at the right time! Good luck with refining your system! =D
You video came out at the perfect time for me. While I consistently use my daily planner, I have bern in a slump for a while in my personal one. I love the idea of getting it back down to bare bones planning. I think the pressure of keeping up with things like habit trackers, gratitude and memory logs, and the like are hindering me. Think I will go back to basics for a month or two and see if that helps. Already feeling a little spark.
I used to have gratitude and memory logs too! But I found all of that overwhelming within a couple of weeks. Bare bones planning absolutely nailed it for me. Hopefully it works for you too!
Hi Yukiko! I am a new subscriber and just spent most of the afternoon binge-watching several of your videos! Thank you SO MUCH for your videos-they are super helpful and while many planner youtubers excite me for all the pretty stationery items they use on their planners, your videos are exciting for how (hopefully) productive I could be
This video is so important to me right now. I've been an avid bujoer for the last 8 months and was heartily enjoying it. But come march, a bit of seasonal depression dropped onto my regular depression and my anxiety soared. I refused to touch my bullet journal and just couldnt. So I switched systems to a spiral planner and have been really happy to use my bujo as a journal.
I'm so sorry to hear that you are suffering from depression and anxiety =( I hope that you recover soon with the coming of summer! *hugs!*
This video is great, thank you! I get into a "planner slump" every summer, making me feel guilty for all of the empty pages in my Hobonichi. I've finally realised that it's because as a university student, I'm between terms/on vacation, so I don't actually need it :D
Thank you so much for this video, it truly spoke to me. Especially when you spoke about it being messy. I have been in a planner slump for some time and I plan to just start with the essentials like you advised.
Good luck with overcoming the planner slump! =) Haha, I've been thinking of doing a video on planning with only the essentials for some time now... Perhaps next month when work slows down!
Yukiko - I haven't even watched this video yet. But I will. I just want to pause for a moment to tell you how much I, as a new BuJo person, have appreciated your Instagram pages, and your videos. I find your presentations clear, your thinking first rate, and you don't go overboard with "decorations" in my view. So, Thank you!
Thank you very much for your kind encouragement, John! I hope this video (and my future offerings) do not disappoint!
I love my planner, but I have stopped using my planner for all of the reasons you mentioned. As you said, I always go back!
=D Hopefully your planner will see some love from you soon~
Just after 2 videos, you've got yourself a new fan and subscriber! Really inspiring contents, do put up more!
Thank you so much for subscribing to my channel! I'm so glad to know that you enjoy the videos!
Always so informative! Thank you! 💜
